I am a journalist myself so I am always interested in how my occupation is portrayed in movies. Sometimes journalists are heroes fighting for the greater good like the freedom of speech and bringing light to injustices.
More often than not they are villains who exploit people by spreading false or unverified rumors and putting their noses where they don't belong.
I think both of these notions are partially true but not entirely. I think also the public has the responsibility about the stuff journalists need to publish to keep the papers selling.
Rumors about celebrities are of course published because they sell - and they sell well. Remarkable political or invenstigating journalism would get published more if people would be interested in it. The sad truth is that they are not. In my mind the best films about journalism show clearly that to get lots of vital information to people and to be brave you also need to be rude, nosy and sometimes even emotionally cold to advance your progress.
This is a list of films which either deal largely in journalism or have journalists as major characters.
The list will be updated if I encounter other good examples. I haven't seen all of these so you may correct me. Suggestions are welcome!
