1. Survival of the Dead (2009)
It wasn't as bad as people said it was, IMO, but it's not good either. It's pretty meh, and it feels more like an awkward comedy, than a horror film.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 272  Average listal rating (179 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 6.8
2. Defendor (2009)
A much more touching and powerful take on vigilantism, than movies like Kick-Ass.

It's a drama/comedy with some really powerful performances.

I loved it, and I highly recommend it!

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 1329  Average listal rating (832 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating
3. Sucker Punch (2011)
The visuals are fantastic and really imaginative, but it's not so strong story-wise.

I really enjoyed it, though.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 28  Average listal rating (13 ratings) 7.2  IMDB Rating 7.3
4. The American Nightmare (2000)
One of the best & most interesting horror documentaries out there.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 1153  Average listal rating (742 ratings) 5.8  IMDB Rating 6.1
5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Platinum Dunes' only decent movie.

It isn't in the same league as the original, which is one of my favorites. The acting was decent, but R Lee Eremy was great in it, and completely stole the show.

PS: Jessica Biel is incredibly hot :P

People who added this item 1182  Average listal rating (814 ratings) 6.1  IMDB Rating 7.1
6. Tremors (1990)
One of the funniest horror-comedies I've seen.

It mixes the horror & comedy perfect.

Hilarious characters with good chemistry, and great acting!

The monster effects are great!

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 1149  Average listal rating (720 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 6.4
7. Friday the 13th (1980)
Watched for the first time ever!

I loved it! the suspense was great, the characters were likable & funny, and the score is really good.

A classic.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 451  Average listal rating (231 ratings) 7.3  IMDB Rating 7.1
8. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
One of the grimmest, bleakest & most sadistic movies I've ever seen, and I thought it was great!

A true horror film, with a bone-chilling ending.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 228  Average listal rating (149 ratings) 4.6  IMDB Rating 4.6
9. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
I really liked it, for some reason. It 's really different from most of the other Halloween films, but I liked the mystic approach.

Far from one of the best Halloween films, but enjoyable.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 31  Average listal rating (22 ratings) 5  IMDB Rating 5.1
10. Devil's Playground (2010)
An uninspiring waste of time.

It's not horrible, but it's nothing new or interesting at all.

It's just... meh...

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 465  Average listal rating (301 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.8
11. Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Re-watch.

I would go as far as calling it a modern day horror classic. It mixes horror & dark comedy perfectly, and reminds me of Goosebumps for grown-ups. The horror is intense & the humor is twisted, and the atmosphere is perfect for Halloween.

I love it!

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 82  Average listal rating (34 ratings) 7  IMDB Rating 6.5
12. Fear(s) of the Dark
A good, but lacking, animated horror movie for adults.

The stories range from good to decent, but all of them have unresolved endings.

Recommended for people that's into strange movies with weird art styles and such.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 392  Average listal rating (266 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.2
13. Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)
Re-watch.

One of my favorite sequels, to one of my favorite movies!

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 34  Average listal rating (19 ratings) 5.7  IMDB Rating 5.7
14. A Slit-Mouthed Woman (2007)
An interesting take on the Japanese urban legend known as the Slit-Mouthed Woman.

I really liked it, but some parts were a little bit confusing.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 425  Average listal rating (252 ratings) 6.5  IMDB Rating 6.6
15. Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)
Extremely creepy & well-told Japanese Horror film.

HIGHLY recommended.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 1897  Average listal rating (1202 ratings) 5.4  IMDB Rating 5.8
16. The Grudge (2004)
Decent remake, but it felt to polished & hollywood-ish. Also, the scares weren't as good in it.

Just watch the Japanese ones. They're far superior.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 3623  Average listal rating (2458 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 7.1
17. The Ring (2002)
Re-watch.
I never understand the love that this film get. It's just decent IMO.

The story is not that good, but I like the "cursed video tape"- urban legend. Some of the visuals are really good, and the acting is pretty damn good. Still, I don't find it that scary at all, and I like slow-burn horror films & ghost films.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 103  Average listal rating (55 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 6.7
18. Bay of Blood (Twitch of the Death Nerve) (1971)
A brutal & gory slasher from the late great Mario Bava.

The cinematography is beautiful, and the score is fitting. The acting isn't the best, but you really don't watch movies like this for the acting.

The kills are really gruesome, and it shows where the Friday the 13th films got their inspiration from.

It's got some mysticism as well, which just adds to the unique story.

I highly recommend it for old school horror fans.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 650  Average listal rating (409 ratings) 7.2  IMDB Rating
19. Day of the Dead (1985)
Re-watch.

My favorite zombie movie of all time.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 435  Average listal rating (262 ratings) 6.5  IMDB Rating 6.6
20. Session 9 (2001)
Re-watch.

Incredibly scary low-budget & slow-burn horror film. It doesn't use any cheap jump-scares or clichés, and the plot is deep.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 24  Average listal rating (15 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 5.8
21. The Life and Death of a Porno Gang (2009)
A sick & perverted movie about making movies, porn & snuff. The characters are great, and darkly funny at times. The violence & gore is really realistic, and not as over-the-top as "A Serbian Film".

Still, I prefer "A Serbian Film".

I recommend it for hardcore viewers only.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 236  Average listal rating (108 ratings) 7.7  IMDB Rating 7.6
22. Lady Snowblood (1973)
Awesome film! Great story, interesting characters, and some really great high-pressure blood spurts.
The music is excellent, and the visuals match perfectly.

Recommended!

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 106  Average listal rating (65 ratings) 7.4  IMDB Rating 7.3
23. Shogun Assassin (1980)
An Awesome & über-violent Samurai-flick!

It got it's flaws, and the dub is pretty corny, but it's incredibly entertaining.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 734  Average listal rating (489 ratings) 6.8  IMDB Rating 6.8
24. The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Re-watch

This is Rob Zombie's best film in my opinion, and I liked House of 1000 corpses & the Haunted World of El Superbeasto. I also didn't think that the Halloween remake was bad.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 157  Average listal rating (107 ratings) 5.8  IMDB Rating
25. Grave Encounters (2011)
I was surprised how good this film was.
The premise is a mix between ghost hunters & paranormal activity, yet I found this film to do a better job than both of the previous mentioned.

It starts off as a parody of "real" ghost tv-shows, and turns into a really scary & gruesome horror film.

It has it's flaws, but it's still a very solid horror flick, and it actually made me yell out loud at one part.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 323  Average listal rating (207 ratings) 6.2  IMDB Rating 6.2
26. I Spit on Your Grave (2010)
A good remake, but I prefer the original.

The only thing the remake improved was the death scenes. They felt much more satisfying as revenge, and they were incredibly gruesome.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 127  Average listal rating (78 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.1
27. The Woman (2011)
Possibly one of the best horror films this year.

It's original, violent & really disturbing.

I really, really hated the father & the son, whom are the true monsters.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 1774  Average listal rating (1177 ratings) 6.5  IMDB Rating 7.2
28. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
A really funny flick with an impressive cast of comedians.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 454  Average listal rating (256 ratings) 6.5  IMDB Rating 6.8
29. Super (2010)
Re-watch.

I liked it a lot more this time, since I found it much more deeper & dramatic than first time I saw it. It's still hilarious at times, but it's incredibly depressing too.

If you want a really black comedy, I recommend it.

Update:
Watched it again for the third time, and I still think it's fantastic.

Orlok's rating:

People who added this item 352  Average listal rating (226 ratings) 6.1  IMDB Rating 6.1
30. Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
One of my favorite movies made in 2011!

I really liked the Grindhouse & Troma feel it had, and it had a silly, yet serious plot. The acting was extremely good, especially from Rutger Hauer.

The gore effects were great.

I highly recommend this one to fans of troma/grindhouse/exploitation.

Update:

Re-watched it. Still really awesome.

I WILL watch Hobo soon. Agreed on Survival of the Dead...seemed like Romero set out to make a different film, but then decided to throw some zombies in it and add it to his Dead canon. Such a disappointment after Diary turned out to be a solid film.

Wow, you've been busy! Lots of stuff here that I'll look into as Halloween is just around the corner!

Glad to see Fear(s) of the Dark here! First time I've encountered it on listal! One of those movies I've wanted to see for a long time now, but keep forgetting about.

Also, this whole Slit-mouth woman thing is something that's come to my attention only recently. Maybe I'll try to see one of em soon...

Glad you really liked Henry, Friday the 13th, Session 9, and Hobo! I'll check back on this list again soon.

I see you've been very busy since I last dropped by here. Glad to see you enjoyed Friday the 13th and Hellbound, both movies I really dig. We differ on Trick 'r Treat (which I thought was average), Session 9 (which I didn't care much for), and Fears of the Dark (which I loved). Some of these I still need to check out, so good to see your thoughts on them!
