You should convert the dollars to the same standard. 1$ back in the 70's was worth a lot more than 1$ now. Convert the revenue into 2009 dollars.
That's why gone with the wind is always at the top of those lists. :D
Hello Steerpike,
I agree that with some points - This list doesn't say anything about how many people watched the movies in cinema or how much the revenue of the movies was worth at the time.
But on the other hand - how can I convert the gross? I need the mean ticket prices for each year. Then I need to calculate the gross for every single movie. The question is: is it worth it? It is a lot of work.
And what about the movies that are not on this list? There are a lot of movies that would be in this list if I would convert the grosses. For example Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). Its converted gross would be 782,620,000 $, but it is not in this list because its "real" gross was only 184,925,486 $. And there are many others like this. So I would not be able to create a complete list.
Wow. It wasn't until #49 until the list hit a movie that I would watch again and until #74 that the list hit a movie I'd call "really good". Me and popularity don't seem to mix.
that can't be true. Just because they earned a lot of money, doesn't mean they will be remembered for ever. here in austria nobody was impressed about skyfall and the hobbit

I hope you can understand my problems...
It's interesting to have the list for reference.
