Nelson Mandela (July 18, 1918 - December 05, 2013)
Nelson Mandela's death at the age of 95 has been the most shocking news all over the world in 2013. Although it was obvious that it was going to happen, it's still shocking. The former South Africa President, Nelson Mandela was one the greatest inspiration in the world. He was often described as "The Father of The Nation." Many celebrities, sportsmen and leaders have paid tributes to the great man. Mandela has been depicted in cinema and television on multiple occasions. The 1997 film Mandela and de Klerk starred Sidney Poitier as Mandela, while Dennis Haysbert played him in Goodbye Bafana (2007). In the 2009 BBC television film Mrs Mandela, Nelson Mandela was portrayed by David Harewood,and Morgan Freeman portrayed him in Invictus (2009). He is portrayed by Idris Elba in the 2013 film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. R.I.P Nelson Mandela.

Paul Walker (September 12, 1973 – November 30, 2013)
Paul Walker's death has to be one the most shocking news of 2013. On November 30, 2013, The Fast and Furious actor along with his friend Roger Rodas were killed in a car crash after they returned from Walker's charity Reach Out Worldwide for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Fans all over the world were shock to hear this news, including many celebrities who worked with him. It was shocking as one of the great actors has die so soon but will not be forgotton by his friends, family and his fans. R.I.P Paul Walker.

James Avery (November 27, 1948 – December 31, 2013)
James Avery was an American actor, best known for his portrayal of the patriarch and attorney (later judge) Philip Banks, Will Smith's character's uncle, in the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This character was ranked #34 in TV Guide's "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time." On December 31, 2013 there was some shocking news. At the age of 65, Avery died from complications following open heart surgery in a Los Angeles hospital. R.I.P James Avery. Phillip Banks the best TV Father ever.

Margaret Thatcher's death was shocking news. She was a British politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and the Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. She was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century and is the only woman to have held the office. A Soviet journalist called her the "Iron Lady", a nickname that became associated with her uncompromising politics and leadership style.

One the most shocking news in the football world was when Sir Alex Ferguson retired as Manchester United F.C manager after 27 years. On 8 May 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson announced that he was to retire as manager at the end of the 2012-2013 football season winning the Premier League for the 13th time and 20 league titles overall for the club. He said that he would remain at the club as a director and club ambassador.

One of the most disgusting thing seen on a live event show was at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards when the show was most notable for Miley Cyrus shocking twerking on Robin Thicke as they performanced their hit songs "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines", which received negative reactions from critics and mixed reactions from fans and fellow celebrities, including priceless image of the reactions of Will Smith and his family. This eventually led her breakup with Liam Hemsworth. And this is the woman who was voted sexiest Maxim Magazine? I'm not sure what they were thinking.

Angelina Jolie's Double Mastectory
On February 16, 2013, at the age of 37, Angelina Jolie shocked the world when she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene. Due to the women such as her mother, grandmother and auntie all died due to cancer, Angelina Jolie removed her breasts and at the time earned praise from people, mainly women around the world. She's so amazing, who cares what others think.

On July 13, 2013, there were shocking news for Glee fans that The Glee star, Cory Monteith was found dead from a drug overdose in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver at the age of 31.

After many rumours that Christian Bale was being offered $50 million for returning as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, but on August 22, 2013, it was announced that the casting of Batman was Ben Affleck. This was shocking news to many fans that wanted Christian Bale to return and didn't like the idea of Ben Affleck as Batman who received many negative reactions. If it was up to me, I would bring back Christian Bale but If I had a choice to cast as a new Batman, I would've casted Jensen Ackles.

Cote de Pablo Leaves NCIS
Cote de Pablo shocked NCIS fans when she announced that she was leaving the show in season 11. Cote de Pablo's character Ziva David was a fan favorite on the show when she first came in Season 3. Her character was one of the badass women characters on TV and will be missed on NCIS.

Michael Schumacher's Skiing Accident
On 29 December 2013, former German racing driver, Michael Schumacher was skiing with his son in Méribel in the French Alps when he fell and hit his head on a rock, sustaining a head injury. It was later announced that Schumacher was in critical condition and in a medically-induced coma due to suffering a traumatic brain injury and had undergone urgent neurosurgery to relieve pressure on his brain after a scan showed he had suffered cerebral contusion.

José Mourinho Returns as Chelsea F.C Manager
There were was some shocking news in football when on 3rd June 2013, Jose Mourinho announced that Chelsea appointment him as manager for the second time, on a four-year contract. Mourinho told Chelsea TV: "In my career I've had two great passions - Inter and Chelsea - and Chelsea is more than important for me. It was very, very hard to play against Chelsea, and I did it only twice which was not so bad. Now I promise exactly the same things I promised in 2004 with this difference to add: I'm one of you." It was also shocking that Manchester United did not appoint him as manager after Sir Alex Ferguson retire.

There were some shocking news in The Simpsons where on October 25, 2013, actress, Marcia Wallace died from her 30-year battle with breast cancer at the age of 70. She was best known for her voice in The Simpsons as Edna Krabappel. In The Simpsons episode "Four Regrettings and a Funeral" was shown on November 3, 2013, dedicated the episode to her which had Edna Krabappel leave the show.

On 1 September 2013, Real Madrid announced that they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Bale, signing a six-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The shocking news about the transfer was the fee for Bale. The Spanish press (and Real Madrid TV) reported that Bale had cost £77 million (€91 million), while the British press reported a world record transfer fee of £85.3 million (€100 million), which would be above Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer record fee of £80 million (€94 million) when he left Manchester United. Great player, like watching him play, but serious? He's worth more than Cristiano Ronaldo at the time he went to Real Madrid, winning trophies and scoring so many goals? Still Bale is an amazing player, but I don't think he's that expensive.

On 21 April 2013, in a 2–2 draw with Chelsea in a Premier League game at Anfield, Suarez appeared to bite Chelsea defender, Branislav Ivanović. It was not noticed by the officials, and Suárez scored an equaliser in injury time. This was the second incident of its kind involving Suárez. He was charged with violent conduct by the FA and fined an undisclosed sum by his club. Contrary to claims from Suárez, Ivanović did not accept an apology. I actually cried when Paul Walker died. He is the only celebrity death that I cried over. He just seemed like a very good person. RIP Paul.

The fact Simon has a kid with a normal name instead of a nonsensical or food related name is the biggest surprise to me.
