I can totally understand why Schindler's List is on this ... er, list, but I find the movie kind of hopeful, too. Oskar Schindler was a real man, not a Hollywood creation. Fundamentally good people do exist in this world.
Every Disney movie could be added..like Lion King and Bambi, goodness I kind of hate those movies because they are so sad. I know this is silly but I think Marley and Me is very depressing too
I agree that Old Yeller is more sad than depressing.
Clint Eastwood seems to have found his niche as a director of depressing movies like, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and Gran Torino. Good films, but very depressing.
I also didn't think of To Kill A Mockingbird as a depressing movie, even though a great injustice and a tragic end was suffered by Atticus' client.

How about 'The House of Sand and Fog'?
You could add A Perfect World with Kevin Costner, it has a sad/depressing ending.
