Fateful Findings (2013)
This movie....is just.....I mean...........just watch it. It's a movie that really wants to have an important message. It tries to be intense, romantic, surreal, and charming. It is none of those things. What it is though, is hands down one of the oddest movies I have ever seen. Neil Breen is the director, writer, and star of this and he can do neither of those things. I really don't want to spoil too much of this cause this movie needs to be experienced on its own. This clip is just a taste of what you will get.
Miami Connection (1987)
The acting, the script, the directing, the music, etc. I could go on about what makes this movie awful but there is something captivating about it. Calling something a trainwreck is cliched at this point but it is the perfect description for this. I think my favorite thing about this though is the horrible music. You can tell everyone involved thought they were making a kick ass soundtrack. But what we got were odd songs where you can barely make out the lyrics at times.
Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987)
This is quintessential "so bad it's good". This is the kind of movie you watch and then get drunk with your friends while having a good time. You can tell the people making this were having fun and it is not meant to be taken too seriously. The plot involves cancer infected rats (yep for real), escaped snakes, and cartels. Somehow jacuzzis, ninja stars, and skateboards get worked into it too. The clip below I have watched so many times and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
Cool Cat Saves the Kids (2015)
Derek Savage really tries. He created Cool Cat as a way to teach kids important lessons. It's kind of endearing in that way as you can see he really wants a Barney the Dinosaur kind of hit. But Cool Cat is far too annoying and completely misses the mark for teaching lessons. Take for example how Cool Cat teaches kids to look both ways before crossing the street but he himself immediately abandons that rule to go chase after a bully. Even though there have been a lot of riffs and funny reviews of this on youtube, I really do recommend watching this yourself cause this has to be seen.
Ice Cream Man (1995)
One Halloween after Trick or Treating with my cousins, we started to look for a good scary movie to watch. This happened to be on tv and we liked the sound of it so we decided to watch it. We were 10. Even then we laughed at it and it became one of those movies we constantly joked about. When it does horror, it fails. When it does comedy, it fails. The only thing it gets right is...................nevermind it gets nothing right. But you can tell the filmmakers and actors tried so it does become a bit endearing.
Some say this movie is secretly a masterpiece that no one gets. Yeah I don't know about that. What it is though, is entertaining trash and that is okay. Since it is a trash flick, it makes watching this movie that much more enjoyable. All the characters in this have the weirdest motivations and some take a complete 180 that it feels like this entire thing was improvised. This clip demonstrates this movie's oddness. The dancing in this looks painful and nothing close to sexy.
Deadly Prey (1987)
This isn't even B-level Rambo. This is X-level Rambo. There's no message about war, PTSD, or USA. Nope. It's just some guy in the jungle who gets kidnapped and starts killing soldiers. Apparently the jungle is like 5 miles from his house on foot and at any point he could have just ran back there. But for whatever reason he decides to screw around with the soldiers. This movie does have some fantastic kills, in a cheap and funny sort of way. It also has one of the most bizarre and random endings I have ever seen. The clip below is the great Cameron Mitchell delivering a monologue so straight it becomes wonderful.
Ben & Arthur (2002)
This one would make an excellent double feature with The Room. Tommy Wiseau and Sam Mraovich are cut from the same cloth. They both are delusional people who really wanted to make a classic. In a weird way they did, but for all the wrong reasons. I am not sure if Mraovich is trying to make some kind of statement about sexuality or love cause it gets completely lost. As with any so bad it's good movie the acting and directing are all horrible but I think the worst thing about it is the writing. Characters don't feel real but more like mouthpieces for the director to make whatever statement he is trying to make. This one is not as well known as The Room or Troll 2 but it should be as it is just as entertaining for its horribleness as those two.
On Deadly Ground (1994)
Steven Seagal is one of the most egotistical actors of all time. This is very evident in one of the most self indulgent films there ever was. It is another movie trying to make a political statement but this time about environmental issues. The problem is Seagal tries to accomplish this by blowing shit up and massacring entire mercenary groups. My favorite thing about it is he goes on and on about protecting nature while blowing up oil refineries. What's even funnier about it though is the supporting cast for this is great. Billy Bob Thorton, Michael Caine, and R. Lee Ermey to name a few. They actually help to elevate this somewhat but it still is an enjoyable bad movie for all its faults. This clip shows just how odd the message of the film conflicts with what is going on.
Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977)
This movie is probably the closest to an arthouse film there is on this list. And to answer your question, yes. This is about a bed that eats people. That's it. There isn't much of a story but it is so surreal it becomes fascinating to watch. It's not a good movie, mind you. But it is one of the more interesting movies on this list. The scene below gave me one of the most laugh out loud moments I ever had.
