Karl Heinrich Marx was a German philosopher, political economist, historian, sociologist, humanist, political theorist and revolutionary credited as the founder of communism. Friedrich Engels was a German social scientist and philosopher who developed communist theory alongside Karl Marx, co-authoring The Communist Manifesto (1848). Engels also edited the second and third volumes of Das Kapital after Marx's death.
