Mario Games We'd Like to See
Pumpkinate's Ideas

![]() The water bits in video games have gotten a bad rep. Usually gamers don't like being hindered by that translucent blue stuff, and often the level designers can't fix this fact despite their best efforts. I've always noted the potential of marine platformers, as games like Starfy and Ecco are more unique for their water-based gameplay. Mario should go underwater at some point, using different suits to interact with the water world in ways not possible on the surface. ![]() Grand Theft Auto III has been consistently cited as a progression from Super Mario 64. But what the heck kind of personality does Claude bring to the table? Not enough, I say! Let's face it: Mario does it best. I say someone make an urban sandbox game with that classic 3D Mario charm. And no hookers! It may be the oldest profession, but it's getting old. For whatever reason, I prefer 3D platformers with more surrealism and cartoony art direction. Since Mario has been consistently good, and Sonic's already tackled and conquered the realistic setting with Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, I patiently await a Mario game in this style. ![]() I was reading through a Nintendo Power a few years ago, and one of the people in the letters page was asking for a Nintendo theme park. But let's compromise: We can make a Nintendo/Mario theme park in video game form! What could go wrong? I mean, besides not being safely fastened to the roller coaster and falling off at the loopty-loop!? Or spontaneously combusting while waiting in the lines!? There's plenty of danger awaiting Mario in an adventure like this. Buy your ticket several seasons in advance. ![]() The only thing that could possibly take it a step further from Super Mario Galaxy is Super Mario Afterlife. It'd be cool to see Mario in some sort of Nintendo version of heaven, especially if there's a crisis on earth that requires his heroism and he has to go through the process of earning his way back to the land of the living by collecting stars and defeating bosses. Hey, I didn't say it needed to be accurate! Just imagine the possibilities if Mario could speak to deceased Nintendo characters and bosses - not to mention face the wrath of the thousands of Goombas he's flattened! Imagine non-linear Mario in 2D form. Yeah, it kind of blows your mind, doesn't it? See Metroidvanias We'd Like to See for this and similar proposals. Pumpkinate's rating:
Sabin Kenobi's Ideas

There are plenty of Mario characters now to make this happen, something like street fighter or Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (the good one). I'd love to see Luigi get revenge for all the time's he's been left out. Some might say Smash Bro's suffice's as a fighting game, but if it were intricate with more special moves and combos it could be much more in depth. Not real sure how it would work, something like Unreal Tournament would be awesome, it's just a genre I don't believe Mario has touched on. He had that weird gun in Mario Sunshine (it was a gun wasn't it?), I wouldn't really know I never played it. But anyway, give them guns for no reason and have them run around shooting each other, it would still be awesome. Again, Luigi's revenge is at hand! This could be cool or lame, be like Starcraft, building a town of mushroom people or goombas if you're the bad guy, having Mario and Bowser as hero's and trying to take down the whole mushroom kingdom! There could be all kinds of warriors and classes, lots of room for ideas here. This is one they definitely should do, something like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Gauntlet. You could do Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, or even pull a Mario RPG and put Bowser in but I always thought that was lame, and just run around all 4 of you. It would be way better than the Wii NEW Super Mario because it'd be more top down view and action oriented, different characters with different move-sets and abilities. I didn't know what else you call this mode but basically star wars battlefront but in Mario. Little mushroom dudes and goombas would be your main trooper. This would probably flop since the LOTR Conquest game did because these games need projectiles, melee characters just don't cut it. Regardless, I would still buy it because I love the genre and I grew up on Mario. One other game idea I would love to see is a 2-d sidescroller like the old days but with a level creator! They thought Lost Levels was tough? I want to build something INSANE! This would sell like wildfire, we've been playing 2-d Mario all our lives and they haven't let us build our own. Even Excitebike had a level creator, and with something more complex like LBP and Infamous 2 having level creation it's time we made our own Mario levels. |
