2. The Searchers (1956)

In The Searchers I think Ford was trying, imperfectly, even nervously, to depict racism that justified genocide.- Roger Ebert

3. Intolerance (1916)

Each story shoes how hatred and intolerance, through all the ages, have battled against love and charity. - a still from Intolerance

4. The House Is Black (1963)

...much of the film’s primal force resides in what I would call its radical humanism, which goes beyond anything I can think of in western cinema. It would be fascinating as well as instructive to pair The House is Black with Tod Browning’s 1932 fiction feature Freaks — which oscillates between empathy and pity for its real-life cast of midgets, pinheads, Siamese twins, and a limbless “human worm,” among others, and feelings of disgust and horror that are no less pronounced. By contrast, Farrokhzad’s uncanny capacity to regard lepers without morbidity as both beautiful and ordinary, objects of love as well as intense identification, offers very different challenges, pointing to profoundly different spiritual and philosophical assumptions.- Jonathan Rosenbaum

5. The Great Dictator (1940)
The final speech breaks the fourth wall, and addresses the audience.

7. The Birth of a Nation (1915)

The Birth of a Nation is a film that deserves to be understood, not only for its importance as a film, but for its insight into why people are racist; the film touches on military worship and the idea of southern honor, embodied by Lillian Gish's character presenting 'white womanhood'.
Mr. Saturn's rating:

People who added this item 210  Average listal rating (98 ratings) 7.8  IMDB Rating 7.6
8. Broken Blossoms (1919)

Broken Blossoms' now racist themes like having a white man play the 'yellow man', and the sterotypes about East Asia, don't detract from its theme of tolerance and D.W. Griffith's brave decision to make a multiracial romance.

11. Scorpio Rising (1964)

Why would somebody like a gay Nazi exist? The film implies an oppressive Christian upbringing is partially to blame.
Mr. Saturn's rating:

People who added this item 587  Average listal rating (300 ratings) 7.7  IMDB Rating 7.8
12. Breaking the Waves (1996)

Not many movies like this get made, because not many filmmakers are so bold, angry and defiant. Like many truly spiritual films, it will offend the Pharisees. Here we have a story that forces us to take sides, to ask what really is right and wrong in a universe that seems harsh and indifferent. Is religious belief only a consolation for our inescapable destination in the grave? Or can faith give the power to triumph over death and evil? Bess knows. - Roger Ebert

American History X, like many films about intolerance are somewhat overrated because of the themes, but Edward Norton has a great performance.

21. District 9 (2009)

Starving alien refugees are gathered into ghettos; District 9 probably won't make you think differently, but it's a pretty fun film.

Films and documentaries about intolerance. Recommendations are appreciated.

I wasn't too impressed with Spike Lee's films or The Reader. I detested Crash.
