1. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - PlayStation 2

Why on Wii?: Since the first time Nintendo revealed how the Wii remote worked, you know you pictured using it for a violent, fast beat-em-up. If you tell me otherwise you're either lazy or a liar. Devil May Cry is famous for having some of the best, fastest and most badass brawling action in all of gaming, and you'd be mad to not want to play it a little more physically.

What special Wii features?: Pointer controls would be great for the few little first person shooting sections of the game, perhaps Mario Galaxy style pointer collection for red orbs.

Similar candidates: God of War, Heavenly Sword, Golden Axe: Beast Rider

Why on Wii?: Yes, okay, I know there's a Silent Hill game for Wii, but Silent Hill 2 is probably the scariest game (or otherwise!) ever made by mortal man. Now imagine being able to react to the fear by actually physcially hammering away at the enemies with that rusty pipe. It'd make for some fun YouTube reaction videos, I know that much. Get gran playing and she might finally have some "movements" to talk about.

What special Wii features?: Some nice enhanced pointer puzzles, some Silent Hill: Shattered Memories features such as static from the remote speaker...

Similar candidates: Eternal Darkness, The Suffering

3. Half-Life - PC Games
Why on Wii?: Metroid Prime 3 had some of the most immersive first person controls ever. Whether or not you're a fan of using the pointer for aiming and moving your view (we think you're mad if you don't, but some people prefer to be able to turn around at lightning speed), you can't deny that the motions used to pull levers, twist door handles and enter numbers on keypads did an amazing job of making you feel at one with the game's world. When we first played Half-Life (and it’s sequel), we all experienced deeper immersion than we thought a video game could provide. Doesn't it seem common sense, then, to bring the two together?

What special Wii features?: I’m thinking a lock-on system like Metroid Prime, so you can centre your view on an enemy or object, and then flail your arm like a bitch to whack the shit out of it with Gordon Freeman’s famous crowbar without losing your aim. If it’s to be the original Half-Life, stick some new graphics in, too (hell, just take ‘em straight out of the sequel, nobody will mind).

Similar candidates: Half-Life 2, DOOM 3, Portal

4. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Xbox 360
Why on Wii?: It’s a first person adventure RPG with swords and axes. Of course we want to be swinging our arms like it’s nobody’s business to control it! The graphics would have to be chopped down quite a bit for it to work but Oblivion’s beauty is in how it’s crafted, not how many special next-gen effects it can throw at you. The controls present a problem, though, as infra-red can’t be used for aiming while also waving your arms around to swing a sword, so either a lock-on system could be introduced, or the game could be made to work with old-school GoldenEye styled FPS controls, since the game is all about exploration and not aiming accuracy. Hell, Metroid Prime did both (but it needed some god-damned strafe buttons!).

What special Wii features?: Pointer aiming for bows and arrows, the lock picking might be quite interesting...

5. Rez - PlayStation 2
Why on Wii?: Rez is an underrated, kickass TRON-styled rail shooter which involved a computerized character flying through a retro-futuristic wireframe world, making the game’s music in realtime by interacting with the ‘enemies’, locking on and firing. The most baffling thing about Rez, though, is it’s simplicity. All you do in the game is move the reticule with your analogue stick and use primary and secondary fire buttons. Now just imagine how intuitive this would be with the freehand Wii remote using it’s infra-red pointer in place of an analogue stick, and simply pressing your trigger and your A button?

What special Wii features?: I can’t help but think how fun it’d be to have your Mii floating around in place of the wireframe feller. Optionally, of course. Having some of the sounds come out of the Wii Remote speaker would be a nice touch too, so long as it can keep in sync with the music and everything. With a second Wii remote the vibration feature doesn't even need the peripheral - in fact, it's just the right shape. Don't forget to use the protective jacket.

Similar candidates: Panzer Dragoon, Lylat Wars

6. Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Xbox
Why on Wii?: C'mon. You know Buffy is cool, and you know the Xbox game and it's multi-platform sequel were cool. Now how about being able to live the fantasy in a more physical way by actively punching and staking those pesky vamps?

Similar candidates: It's sequel, Chaos Bleeds, of course!

7. Mirror's Edge - Xbox 360
Why on Wii?: Mirror's Edge was a slightly disappointing game for me with it's lack of freedom and huge difficulty curve, but it has a good following and clearly a great series could come from it. As a casual gamer, I dream of a Wii version of the game with the easier difficulty curve you tend to get from games on the system.

More importantly though, some Wiimote gestures could turn the already interesting idea of first-person free-running into a stonking bit of action gaming. Revert to classic GoldenEye first-person controls with strafing mapped to the Z and B buttons and a 'look' button for those moments when you wanna look up or down, shove a classic Metroid Prime-style 'jumping arc' so you can see where you're going to land, then add some gimmick gestures like alternating arm swings to run faster, thrusting your arms forwards to punch, a pointer-controlled reticle for firing guns and some controlled tilting to control your balance on thin rails and you'll have a game as exhilarating and tiring for you as it is for the character.

What special Wii features?: Control-tweaking options for the hardcore gamers, perhaps balance board support...

8. World of Warcraft - PC Games
Why on Wii?: While the girls are using their WiiSpeak to play on Animal Crossing, why not give the guys something to play with their mates? This game clocks in more hours with it's players than any other and is the cause of much bloating, arm cramp and fatness from sitting at a keyboard, hunched over a microphone.

Give these people freehand Wiimote control, a microphone which picks up everything in the room, and TV output so that they aren't forced to be at arms length from the screen and maybe some spines will be saved. Who knows, add some gesture-based side quests, shove in balance board support for levelling up and you could have saved a number of people from heart attacks later in life.

What special Wii features?: Mii support, of course! Have an elf (or whatever) with your Mii's facial features!
