My Netflix Instant Queue, that is. Most of the time whenever I pull it up to watch something it takes me forever to decide. Unless, of course, something is scheduled to leave instant watch soon. So I'm calling upon the Listal community to help me get through it a little easier. After all, I added most of these to my queue based on Listal recommendations.
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED. Rules:
1. Look at what's listed here and choose up to 10 (less is fine) to recommend which films I should watch this summer.
2. Your first recommendation will earn 2 points, the rest are worth 1 point each (I don't feel like doing a lot of math).
3. You can also vote against 1 film, which will then lose 1 point. Since several people named one film I should avoid for June, I decided those should earn credit too to further shake up the list.
4. The list order will be changed to reflect your votes, and as I watch each film I will move it into a separate "Watched" section.
5. You can participate once per month (June, July, August) if you want. After August ends I won't take any more submissions.
6. On July 1st and August 1st, any additional titles that move into my instant queue will be added for you to vote on.
7. Anything I haven't watched by the end of August I will try to watch as soon after as possible.
NOTE: Some of these I've already watched, but most I have not. For sanity's sake I've left out anything in my queue that's not a movie or a documentary. If you're curious about seeing everything in my queue, please visit myI queue list.

Great idea man! Believe it or not I've seen 59 of these! (and now 'want' to watch 33) and would recommend the majority of them. However, I urge you to steer clear of The Human Centipede. In addition to being foul, it just plain sucked!
So from what I've seen I would most highly recommend watching:
1. Metropolis (Simply one of those films you must watch. It's not only VERY GOOD, but also such a huge part of the language of Cinema)
2. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (For similar reasons)
3. Tetsuo (Certainly not for everyone, but my money's on you digging it.)
4. Before Sunrise (watch it with your lady... and then go ahead and try not to watch the sequel within a week. I dare you)
5. Casino (Personally I think it's my favorite of Scorsese's work at a gut level, even if not as "great" or groundbreaking as some of his others.)
6. The Girl on the Bridge (Again, watch it with your lady)
7. Star Trek
8. The Secret in Their Eyes
9. ExistenZ
10. Do the Right Thing
You've got so much good stuff up here and so many titles I'm equally curious about, so no matter what it'll be interesting to see what you check off and what you think. Cheers, and happy viewing!
the giraffe requested me to point out movies that he should avoid :
- Last man standing (one of the worst movies I have seen staring Bruce Willis, really, but really not worth your time)
- Surrogates (I haven't seen it but considering all the amazing movies you have here, it shouldn't be a priority)
- Boondocks 2 (again, I haven't seen it but the first one was rather overrated so it shouldn't be a priority)
- Jakob The liar (it is not bad but nothing great either and can be missed)
- The money pit (first time I saw it, I thought it was hilarious, so I watched it again, then I thought it was pretty average)
- Nick of time (I love Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken but even though it is decent thriller, it is still rather average)
Wow! only 6 movies!! It is really a good selection. The only one you should really avoid is Last man standing, the rest is ok.

2. Carlito's Way, (this was good, great cast too)
3. The Messenger, (might be boring to some, but i really enjoyed it)
4. The Other Guys, (one of my favorite comedies Marky Mark and Will Ferrell are such an odd couple which makes for one hilarious movie)

1. Romeo + Juliet (1996)
2. Star Trek (2009)

6. The Little Shop of Horrors
7. Peeping Tom
8. Network
9. Carnival of Souls

Since several people have singled out one film I should avoid, I've decided to add a rule (see above in right-hand column) that everyone can vote against one movie from the queue (if you want to). I've modified the points for the ones that lost points from the recommendations above (and those with negative points have been moved to the end of the list).
I second drugs opinion in staying away from Romeo + Juliet. That movie did just not work for me at all. Shakespeare and modern times doesn't go well hand in hand, if you ask me.
The following list is ranked by my stars and favorite films:
1) The Graduate
2) Star Trek (I need to take a re-watch myself)
3) I Saw the Devil
4) The Chaser

8) Casino
9) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Yay, getting close to Oregon's only month of true summer weather... August. But here are a few of my thoughts...
Lady On A Train and 39 Steps are two of my favorite Hitch films. They part of his lighter period of film making. I love the lighthearted comedic elements amongst chase scenes. There is also the obvious usage of musical clues in both films.
Creep... sure not great but compared to "After.life" it starts looking pretty good. It also has Franka Potente which usually enough to get me to watch a film (I'm so... shallow). So, no rush but sometimes your just in the mood for a crazed killer in a subway movie and "Hay" look here is one right here! "After.life" just didn't hold my attention very well. "Dracula 2000" probably only good if your looking for a drunken movie night film or have a crush on Jonny Lee Miller... which I'm pretty sure you don't so ya... still not the worse vampire film I have seen. We would have to dive into any of the Subspecies films for truly bad. Dracula (1979) I loved the movie when it was in the theater... that said... I was pretty young at the time and the film has dated considerably since then so meh...
The Bad Seed (1956) Is a horrible... horrible film. I know... how can you go wrong with a murderous child!!! Yet, it is an essential viewing for its usage of a story telling element that the ancient Greeks devised and quickly stopped using.
The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008) I actually passed my copy of this film into the hands of three of closest friends and a few relatives. Personally for me it helped pull together a lot of information I knew about the 70's and gave me a better sense of a political timeline.
Paranoid Park (2007) if you really feel the need to up your personal pretentious level or get off on watching young boys then sure. Personally, I hated the movie with a passion "Oh, yes... very "Zen".". You could be even more "zen" and not watch the film but really that is my knee-jerk reaction to the film and I sit in very small minority of people who didn't like the film.
Haha, I very much concur with jaytoast when it comes to Creep! I almost gave it a vote, but figure you may already know my feelings about it from one of my past movie journals. So glad to see jaytoast champion the movie here. In other news I just might be taking Paranoid Park off my own queue now...
Vote For
The Conversation (1974)

Delicatessen (1991)
The Lady Vanishes
The 39 Steps
Baader Meinhof
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Night Watch (2004)

Against
Parinoid Park
Subspecies
Dracula - My favorite but doesn't date well
Harry Brown - A boring revenge film... deja-vu
Enter the Void - Only so I can see it before you LOL ;)
@Xanadon't There are so many other great artistic films that never get any credit or dvd release. So, it is almost an embarrassment that films such as Paranoid Park get such rave reviews... Oh... the pain I still think of the inter-cut video montage/ode to young boys skateboarding and want to stab my brain :P
Then I just think of The Cremaster Cycle and I put the knife down and remember "Yes, I am pretentiously OK." LOL
@jaytoast - I'm only counting one vote against one film per month, but since you missed June I'll give a negative vote for Paranoid Park and Subspecies instead of just one of them. Though your thoughts have me considering getting rid of Paranoid Park altogether too haha.
Ooo, The Broken and Frozen are both satisfying little horror movies that found ways to stand out from the crowd. So I'll give them an unwarranted, but spirited #1 and #2 votes (respectively) for fun. As for the rest... I'm gonna do some double-voting this time around.
3. Casino - I've waited this long- not taking the chance it gets passed up in points and thus, even further delayed!
4. Metropolis
5. Do the Right Thing
6. Dr. Caligari
7. Tetsuo
8. The Girl on the Bridge

Ooo, The Broken and Frozen are both satisfying little horror movies that found ways to stand out from the crowd. So I'll give them an unwarranted, but spirited #1 and #2 votes (respectively) for fun. As for the rest... I'm gonna do some double-voting this time around.
