6. Howl's Moving Castle (2004)


Film based on Diana Wynne Jones' novel of the same name. Mamoru Hosoda, director of one season and two movies from the Digimon series, was originally selected to direct but left the project, so Miyazaki take up the director's role. Nominated for Oscar, another 8 wins and 13 nominations.

Plot: A love story between an 18-year-old girl named Sophie, cursed by a witch into an old woman's body, and a magician named Howl.

A short animated film, a thirteen minute sequel to My Neighbor Totoro. Miyazaki did the voice of the Neko Ba-chan and Totoro.

A music video of a song by the Japanese rock duo Chage & Aska. At their request, Miyazaki produced a music video for the song. The video was inspired in part by the Chernobyl accident of 1986.

Thank you for posting this! I applaud anyone bringing attention to the most imaginative animator the world has ever known! And wow I never knew he did all these shorts including a sequel to Totoro!! I am going to go see Ponyo today! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Miyazaki!!
