So... What the hell do I mean by 'Hardcore movies' ?!?!

I mean movies which so deeply schocked me (most of the time by their stories but sometimes by their visuals) that I still thought about them days afterward. For some of them, I'm still shaken up years later....

I don't provide any notes explaining why they were shocking to me. I don't want to spoil it. If you have seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen it, you have never heard about it and you still wonder what is so 'hardcore' about it, I guess you'll have to wacht it then...

Requiem for a Dream always gets to me...it's an emotional bomb. Audition did not affect me personally that much but it is a disturbing movie. Mysterious skin is definitely something to shake you up a bit I agree...and the most recent movie I've watched from these is In The Realm of Senses...It will definitely stay in my mind for a few days but it was not as shocking as I thought it would be.

I still have nightmares about Requiem For A Dream. I have never been so profoundly affected by a film.

Interesting list. I haven't watched quite a few of these but now I am interested!

@m08222196, I haven't seen 'Come and see' so it won't be added ...

I'm guessing Silent Hill shocked you due to how terrible it is?
Posted: 1 year, 8 months ago at Jul 25 12:25
@AdamLundy, no, even though the story is really far-fetched, I thought it was visually really impressive. I put it in this list because I thought it was one of the most nightmarish movies I have ever seen. If you think it is terrible, well, that's your opinion..
Posted: 1 year, 8 months ago at Jul 30 0:37
@m08222196, good for you that you watched 'Johnny got his gun', I woud love to re-watch it. Concerning 'The Seventh Seal', I don't think it fits this list. I mean, it is a great masterpiece, one of the awesome milestones in motion picture history, it is really deep but not really hardcore.
Posted: 1 year, 7 months ago at Sep 10 0:11
@m08222196, indeed, my bad... I saw 'The seventh continent' not so long ago and it is indeed pretty messed up. It is not as strong as 'Funny Games' though, in my opinion. Maybe I will add it.

Very interesting list!
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 0:19
Very good list! I do have two suggestions though...

Salo (1975)- The most disturbing and disgusting film I've ever witnessed and some of those images still haunt me, especially the end...

Antichrist (2009)- The majority of this film is really just a fascinating and spellbinding drama, but the final thirty minutes are just terrible. There is genital mutilation, bloody ejaculation, I don't even want to start. It's messed up.

I would also throw Eyes Wide Shut in there. I know you've seen that one, but that one really shocked me, same thing goes for Blue Velvet...
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 1:47
@thenoah,

- Salo, Antichrist : I haven't seen them yet but they will probably end up on this list.

I don't see what was so hardcore about Eyes Wide Shut or Blue Velvet. What was so shocking for you in those movies?
Edit: 9 months, 2 weeks ago
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 8:28
@thenoah Salo was just silly.
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 10:56
Eyes Wide Shut... I don't really know what was so horrible about that one for me... I guess it was the rituals and stuff... but Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet has always creeped the holy hell out of me, especially the scene where Kyle Maclachlan's character is in the closet. But, then again that is extremely over-the-top and I could see why you could just find that stupid or not disturbing at all.
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 11:04
@thenoah, to each his own, but there is definitely nothing stupid about what you have just explained ;)
Posted: 9 months, 2 weeks ago at Jul 3 11:20
Oh, know, I meant the scene in the film... but thanks for the reassurance anyways...
Posted: 7 months, 3 weeks ago at Aug 22 18:48
I should recommend Deliverance. For the most part the film is just a great thriller and everything, but that rape scene definitely deserves a mention.

However, I have not yet seen Irreversible, so my opinion of that scene may change in the future...
Posted: 7 months, 3 weeks ago at Aug 23 0:23
@thenoah, it has been a while since I saw 'Deliverance' but even though I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was really amazing or hardcore.
Edit: 7 months, 3 weeks ago
Posted: 7 months, 3 weeks ago at Aug 23 14:56
I just meant the "I'm going to make you squeal like a pig" scene. The rest is just a thriller, but the rape scene was pretty sick.
