1. Astro Creep: 2000 -- Songs of Love, Destruct... - White Zombie
White Zombie is always perfect for Halloween.

2. At Home with Screamin' Jay Hawkins - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Suggested by Pumpkinate

People who added this item 4  Average listal rating (3 ratings) 6.3
3. Black Heart Retrospective - The Suicide Girls
A solid mix of goth-ish bands to put you in a dark mood. Also good to dance to, if you're into that.

4. Bloody Kisses - Type O Negative
This would be the special edition, which is the more "serious" version...it lacks the filler tracks and the hilarious songs "we hate everyone" and "kill all the white people". Thus it's darker. The regular version works as well, but I prefer this one for Halloween.

See also October Rust.

5. Coal Chamber - Coal Chamber
They didn't call themselves spookycore for nothing. 14 dark, creepy songs...see also Chamber Music.

People who added this item 88  Average listal rating (56 ratings) 7.4
6. The Crow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - Various Artists
The movie takes place near Halloween, so it'd be disappointing if the album wasn't similarly themed. Some of the best 80s/90s bands are on here, and it has my favorite Cure song ever to kick it off.

See also its companion soundtrack of Graeme Revell's score.

7. Dead Man's Party - Oingo Boingo
See also most of Danny Elfman's soundtracks.

8. Gotham - Bauhaus
The best live recording of Bauhaus & a good collection of their best songs.
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 45  Average listal rating (15 ratings) 7.4
9. Haunted - Poe
The title says it all...a concept album dealing mostly with ghosts and strange goings-on. Sadly overlooked by many.
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 14  Average listal rating (9 ratings) 7.9
10. House of 1000 Corpses (Soundtrack) - Rob Zombie,various
The best thing Rob Zombie has done musically post-White Zombie, and the other bands' songs are excellent as well.

People who added this item 70  Average listal rating (43 ratings) 7.9
11. La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1 - White Zombie
See Astro-Creep above. I prefer this one though, as it's darker.

15. Of Natural History - Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Dark, weird, amazing.

the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 141  Average listal rating (87 ratings) 6.9
16. Portrait of an American Family - Marilyn Manson
Still the best Manson album ever recorded. See also Smells Like Children, which took these songs and remixed them into often creepier, weirder versions plus has a trio of great dark covers ("I Put a Spell on You", "Sweet Dreams", and "Rock n Roll...").
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 192  Average listal rating (118 ratings) 7.3
17. Slipknot - Slipknot
The whole thing sounds like a horror film...probably the slasher variety.
the giraffe's rating:

18. Strange House - The Horrors
Blues and punk mixed with an organ from hell.

No Halloween is complete without Ian Curtis's haunting vocals.

Great list! Are you at all familiar with Tiger Army? Their "Power of Moonlight" disc would be a shoo-in on this list.

I've been told a few times now that I need to check out Tiger Army, but still haven't yet. Guess I should.

Yeah, kinda punk-rockabilly, badass upright bass, bit of a late fifties, early sixties-ish sound at times. Some definate Misfits and Social D influence. Vocalist a bit similar to Davey Havoc but only on his very best day. Good stuff...but,

looking at it now on youtube, a lot of it seems a bit silly... Vinyl: 1 Internet: Zero

If you do look it up the songs "Through the Darkness" "Wander Alone" and "When Night Comes Down" are a few of the best places to start.

This list is a good thing to have alongside mine, though neither is in danger of competing with one another. I've heard Portrait of an American Family and own House of 1000 Corpses, and love them both. Great list and thanks for the vote!

All of the above suggestions have been added.

And I could probably put all of Diamanda Galas's albums to this list for her voice alone.

I just might do a similar list idea XD

You should check out The Ghastly Ones. They would fit perfectly with this list.
