Gundam is a Japanese series about giant robots or "Gundam". The main timeline introduced in the original show, Mobile Suit Gundam, is Universal Century, which has been expanded upon with subsequent movies and TV shows though there have more recently been alternate timelines. The Gundam series is responsible for introducing a new division of the Super Robot genre: the Real Robot genre, where the technical aspects of the machines are well-thought out and similar to technology humans have this day in age, rather than the mecha-kaiju being human-shaped and having unrealistic powers.
