Old Yeller (1957)

In 2006 four million Kenyans were faced with the threat of starvation. In answer to this humanitarian crisis New Zealand manufacturer Christine Drummond offered free dog food to starving Kenyans. This did not go so well with the Kenyan populace or the media who focused all their attention on the dog food scandal and thus away from the crisis and real humanitarian groups trying to assist.

Children in Need one of Britain’s most respected charities regularly passed donations on to Leeds Community School, which in turn used them to fund an Islamic bookshop. As it turned out this bookshop was owned by the same individuals who executed the 7/7 London suicide bombers. In the aftermath of the London bombings, the connection was discovered.

In response to the 2010 Haitian earthquake the UN unfortunately deployed aid workers from Nepal who carried the cholera bacteria to the already destitute country. Prior to the UN’s arrival, cholera hadn’t been seen in Haiti for over 100 years. 8,000 people died and, and infected over 100,000. A mass panic ensued derailing the reconstruction efforts, swamping treatment centers with protesters and the sick; consequently, hampering life-saving anti-cholera drugs. The UN denied all responsibility.

Deep Impact (1998)

In the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami which killed over 230,000 an unprecedented humanitarian response was seen from charities and NGOs.Only problem is there was also complete incompetence from many of these organizations who turned up and wound up fighting for space, instead of helping. Undoing the work of locals, donating unseaworthy boats, building metal houses not taking into account the Thailand blistering climate. In the end it was just a circus of incompetence which hindered real agencies from helping

The Stoke Mandeville Hospital Trust as a thank you to its biggest donors would often allow visits to the wards without supervision. In the 1970s, British TV presenter Jimmy Savile a volunteer to the trust as it would turn out was also a serial sex abuser, who used his fame to cover up hundreds of assaults on children. With his free roam in the wards he allegedly conducted a campaign of abuse against children as young as nine. It’s also been suggested that the trust were aware of what was happening and did nothing to stop it—possibly out of fear of losing their biggest donor.

In Somalia charities in order to distribute their aid would require the help of militiamen to get supplies to ordinary citizens; resulting in a loss of about 20 percent of all aid sent to the country. It has been argued this sort of unintended distribution may actually be prolonging wars. Aid agencies desperate to get in and help are forced to pay “taxes” to this regime on everything they do—leading to a situation where their money winds up paying for slaughter of the same people they’re trying to help.

Haiti again damn! this time its Wyclef... you know that guy from the Fugees who basically used the disaster as a platform to revitalize his career and oh yea run for President of Haiti. Well anyway, "allegedly" Wyclef’s now-defunct Yele Haiti charity managed to raise $16 million in donations which just happened to be misplaced in non-existent companies and Wyclef's family estate. Isn't that considered treachery.

Kony 2012 wait isn't it almost 2014 now? The the charity Invisible Children wanted to make 2012 the year that Ugandan war criminal Joseph Kony was caught, ending his blood-soaked reign and liberating his child soldiers. Unfortunately, they also routinely palled around with Sudan’s SPLA—a violent fighting force that, at the time, also routinely deployed child soldiers in battle. Then there’s the matter of Invisible Children’s support for the corrupt Ugandan government; implicated in numerous war crimes and the use of child soldiers. In short, the charity not only sold out its own principles in a matter of moments, it actively made the situation a hundred times worse.

Hotel Rwanda (2004)

The Rwanda genocide involved the Hutu trying to decimate the minority Tutsis, charities and NGOs rushed to set up refugee camps along the country’s borders. However, the tables turned and genocide became retaliation as it became the Hutus’ turn to flee . . . right into those same refugee camps. The displaced killers wound up getting food and treatment. The Hutus used the refugee camps as bases from which to continue their genocidal campaign—effectively using the aid and charity money to launch a second sustained campaign of slaughter. Had the charity world simply ignored the Rwanda genocide and not given a single penny, there would, perversely, be many more Tutsis alive today. Final proof, if needed, that we all need to be way more careful about choosing who to send our money to.

With the recent occurrences of the Haitian Earthquake cholera outbreak caused by the Nepalese UN workers, the media's constant issuance of warning to good Samaritans to be thoughtful in their "aid work" regarding the Philippines Typhoon and one of my lecturers delivering well executed anecdotes on the stupidity which often surrounds good intentions mixed with crisis situations;I thought it would be a good idea to do a list about how charities basically F*&K up and deceive. However, between the execution of thorough research lasting an estimated ten minutes I came across this list on listverse published just a day before my epiphany which I'm sure others had too; anyway here is Morris M.'s list shamelessly regurgitated for your benefit and thoughts.
Update: As it turns out I'll have to rewrite this entire list to satisfy this troll moderator's regulations"ignorance of the law excuses no one from compliance therewith". Anyways, make sure to check the original list for better insights than I can offer and remember to stay aware friends
