The Giraffe's 30 Days, 30 movies list

Sort by: Showing 30 items
People who added this item 328  Average listal rating (171 ratings) 8  IMDB Rating 7.8
1. Mother (2009)
Day 01- The best movie you saw during the last year

Mother tops my Best movies of 2010 list, so I've decided to give it this spot. I'm sure there was a movie that I watched last year and liked better that didn't come out in 2010, but rather than rack my brain I'll take the easier route.

As well as every other film on my Great underappreciated films list.
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 2645  Average listal rating (1574 ratings) 7.4  IMDB Rating 7.7
19. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Day 19 - Favorite movie based on a book/comic/etc.

Other favorites based on books: Fight Club, Choke, Stardust (which is better than the book), The Shining, High Fidelity, A Clockwork Orange, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

My favorite movie based on a comic book is Oldboy, which already holds a spot on this list.

People who added this item 3982  Average listal rating (2547 ratings) 7.4  IMDB Rating 7.8
24. Lost in Translation (2003)

27. The Fall (2006)
Day 27 - A movie that you wish you had seen in theaters

Because the visuals are too awesome to be experienced on a TV screen. There are many others I could put here also for a variety of reasons, but this one came to mind first.
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 6653  Average listal rating (4358 ratings) 7.7  IMDB Rating 8.2
28. Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Day 28 - Favorite movie from your favorite director

If you've seen my other lists, then you know that this is for Kill Bill as a WHOLE, not just the individual volumes. And you also know that's because the film was intended to be viewed as a whole, but Miramax split it up claiming nobody would sit through it all at once (jerks).

Tarantino has been my favorite director ever since I saw Pulp Fiction in theatres in 1994, then watched Reservoir Dogs later that year. And while I've seen Pulp Fiction more times than any of his films it's Kill Bill that stole its spot to become my favorite.
the giraffe's rating:

29. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Day 29 - A movie from your childhood

After my dad took me to see this in the theatre, I went home and transformed my bedroom to look like Elliot's. Such is the power of film. ;)
the giraffe's rating:

People who added this item 2309  Average listal rating (1329 ratings) 7.5  IMDB Rating
30. Magnolia (1999)

This is one of my favorite lists of yours! Glad you jumped on the 30 days 30 movies wagon (something I've been meaning to do for a while now). Great choices, great reasoning and all around cool insight to who you are and what you like. And with such great choices as Rob Gordon, Magnolia, The Fall and many others I can even forgive you for hating Lost in Translation!

Xanadon't said it perfectly.
Now my contribution is just me saying: Wonderful list!
(I know it's not a very witty but well...C;)

It's good to see some Magnolia love. And I've never heard of Young @ Heart, but it's topping my must-see list now. Great list!

Interesting and fresh choices, and I totally agree that The Fall would have been great in the theater! Glad to see Magnolia, Dr. Strangelove, Fear and Loathing, and Office Space here too. Mother is high on my Want to See List, looking forward to being amazed!
