The reason is pretty hard to put into just a few words.

The first thing that makes it so enjoyable for me is the way it parodies everyone and anything that moves and is so shameless that it’s alright again. I took a shine to each and every little character, even if I do not particularly like him or her, because they are charming, gross, hilarious, annoying, cool, plain, dazzling, ridiculous, empathic…and just so very unique!

Gintama manages to make me laugh until I’m desperately gasping for air but at the same time there are these moment when the series can become extremely serious and heartbreaking, with all my feels being messed up in an instant. It knows when to take itself seriously and when it’s okay to goof off.

And despite its toilet and penis jokes, hidden inside that dirty and glorious show are some important values and life lessons. Friendship and Family is Gintama’s strongest point which might sound weird but all the people who have watched it should understand.

There are so many more reasons why I like this anime but I’ll leave it at that for now. (One of those is the initiation of GinHiji ♥)

At some point I was so drawn into the Gintama universe before I even realized it. And I never want to leave again.

Without a doubt my fav male in the series is Demon Vice Commander Toshiro Hijikata.

It’s not only his asdfghjklfuckin’ good looks and beautiful, dazzling eyes that make me like him so much though.
Toushi is a very hard-working, eager, strong-willed character that always tries his best and strives to become stronger constantly. He’s very proud and tries to never let his weaknesses show and actually has a soft core despite his appearance.
He thinks a lot about the people that matter to him and how to make them happy even if he has to suffer for it. He deserves so much praise and appreciation and love, though he doesn’t like it and kinda takes his self-sacrifices for granted.

What I also love about him are his similarities with Gin-chan which annoy both of them extremely but still show how much they actually get along when it matters. Btw, I’m a GinHiji-worshipper, you must know.
Oh and he is one of those rare charas who is not interested in the usual debauchery at all. (well, he has Gin-chan. C; And he love(d/s) Mitsuba.) Naiiisuuuu, Hijikata-han! :)
And his mayonnaise addiction…I actually find it kind of cute and charming. He’s such a good, courageous guy…let him have his fetish. At least then he has a reason to make adorable faces.

Yep, yep. My favourite. He’s got everything a perfect (fictional) charatcer should have, with a touch of mayo. ♥

(P.S. Everytime Nakapan talks it either gives me an immense ear-and fangasm or just makes everything right with the world. That also helps me like Toushi, anime version and all.)

Kagura belongs to the minority of female anime characters that doesn’t annoy me and receives as much love as the male charas (from me). She makes a perfect female protagonist.

Straight-forward and honest, hilarious as well as strong-willed and prepared to risk her life for her loved ones, while also carrying some of the naive and spoiled traits of a child which she still is. And that is what makes such a wonderful combination. She’s not too tough but neither is she a crybaby. Kagura can stand up for herself and decides to walk a path different from her clan which is incredibly courageous and difficult.
In my opinion, she is the most beautiful girl in the Gintama universe, without exception.

I love how she cares about Gin-chan and Shinpachi although she rarely expresses it. Her interaction with the Shinsengumi is equally heart-warming, especially with Sougo with whom she constantly fights and quarrels but hey, teasing is a sign of affection. The relation to her brother on the other hand is heart-breaking; as much as she hates Kamui for the things he has done/is doing she still loves him and yearns to save him from the path he’s running.

Favourite gal alright.

Chin Pirako. Or whatever her last name is supposed to be. I know, she’s not really a bad person in the end but I still can’t stand her. She’s dishonest and gets the yorozuya into serious trouble. Her attitude gets on my nerves and she kinda creeps me out. Well, I guess I just saw her and realized that she wasn’t my kind of character but that’s alright. I can’t like everyone, dayo ne?
(Btw, I love Kagura in this pic. What a nice contrast between 3 & 4)

Hard one. Actually I love’em all very much. But I’ll guess I’ll go with the opening that is my current alarm tone which is perfect for waking one up, Tougenkyou Alien by serial TV drama. I probably love it because of its fluent and lively animation…and the song is just so catchy.

There’s so much in this opening that I can’t get enough of…all dem Gin's derp faces, Gin-chan eating with highspeed, dat little dance of Elizabeth, Hedoro and Hata, Madao running with a face that makes me want to cuddle him and never ever let go again, Kondo-san on the police car’s roof, Hijikata covering his ears because of Sougo’s bazooka, the fact that they messed up the opening once to, yet again, break the fourth wall…♥

Another hard one. I think Mr. Raindrop is very, very catchy and Shura is also a song that my ears can’t get enough of but I’ll still go with Fuusen Gum by Captain Straydum because it’s Gintama’s first ED and the most nostalgic. I never get tired of hearing it but it kind makes me sad because…because it reminds me of the void that the series left in the fandom when it stopped. Come back soon, Gintama! Our hearts need you!:C

Omg, this question is harder than it should be. Sadaharu is awesome despite leaving his excrements everywhere and cares a lot for his owners after all. On the other hand Elizabeth…is just Elizabeth. Ridiculously entertaing and random and absurd and still cool and ready to risk his life for Katsura and his friends. Oi oi, can’t I just say Makoto-chan since this whole thing is about mascots. Because I really love Mako-chan. Okay, okay fine…I’ll think I’ll go with Elizabeth because, I don’t know, he can play Uno.

Gintoki x Hijikata

I seem to have a thing for pairings that constantly fight and appear to hate each other’s guts more than anything else (e.g. Shizaya and also SougaxKagura). That makes the love between them so much more interesting and complicated and thrilling and h-ho-hot! ★

Gintoki and Hijikata had a weird relationship to begin with. Their not really allies neither are they enemies. They just help each other out when it seems convenient. And since none of them is honest about his feelings they quarrel and quarrel but they always unconsciously search for physical contact with each other and some characters actually realize how well they actually get along. Gin and Toushi are just so alike that it’s natural for them to fight all the time but nevertheless they make such a good combo (when it matters).

And they just look so good together ♥ Once I lay my eye upon those two I can’t see anything else but the beautiful love-hate relationship and the massive sexual tension. *giggles*

I prefer Gintoki as the seme although I can absolutely imagine them fighting over the position and each of them being the seme at times. But I mean, Gin-chan is just so conceited and Toushi is easier to embarrass in my opinion. Still, all the supersexy HijiGin Fanart makes Gin-chan an amazing uke as well.
Oh god, this pairing…just talking aka writing about it makes me all excited asdfghjkl.

Hmm, another difficult one. There are so many arcs I love. I guess I’ll have to go with the Okita Mitsuba Arc though. In this one we finally get to know about the Shinsengumi’s past and learn a bit more about Hijikata’s, Sougo’s and Kondo’s feelings and values in life. We get to know different sides of them which they usually wouldn’t show, lovely Mitsuba is introduced and the whole arc is just so damn tragic and beautiful and well done and heart-wrenching. Strength, Friendship, Support, Love, Pain, Sacrifice…so many themes are touched upon in these episodes, I just can’t get past loving’em.

Episode 166.

Beyond a doubt. Because…OTP FANSERVICE!

Here’s a long-ass description of the things I love about the episode in tumblr-language:

Starting with the wonderful, relaxing Stairway Generation Opening and Hijikata’s “Roger ja nee yo!” which already makes me laugh. And then Gin-chan casually comes along half asleep and starts to pick a fight with Toushi while making marriage references. After he realizes it’s Hijikata standing before him, he gets knocked over by him (lol Gin y u fallin over like a clumsy ox) and he tries to hit him back and Hijikata’s head crashes into a wall and he gets a nosebleed while looking through the binoculars and of course Gin-chan accuses him of peeping and I already find that scene adorable lol.
Toushi presses Gin-chan against a wall. And then he decides to arrest the other male and ties them together with handcuffs (yaaay, kink!). Tooooo bad that he can’t find the key anymore *ahem* Sougo has keys as well but he decides to not open dem cuffs and adds another pair because “it’s more fun that way”. Sougo, you know what life’s all about, darling. ♥ And their faces are priceless, really!

It follows this conversation.
Hijikata: “Oi, Sougo, just give me the keys!”
Okita: *puts mayonnaise in Hijikata’s pocket*
Hijikata:” I told you to give me the key, not mayonnaise!”
Okita: “Mayo wa itsudemo anata no KEY-POINT ja nee desu kai.” (Aren’t you always keen about mayonnaise?)

Oh Sougo, you’re so clever…Anyway, they lie in dat ally, cuffed together and they look at each other for a long time and know that this will be a day like no other, lol. I love the way they press their hands together, dese cuties.

Hijikata wants to finish the job he’s been doing for over a month and Gin does not want to cooperate and goes “The girl you like will run away if you’re always on the chase” and I bet he’s totally referring to himself and uses this as a metaphor to signalize how he’s feeling towards Ogushi-kun (lol I’m using that name for him again xD) OwO

They pull each other close and then they brawl and Gintoki screams “Justice!”. Hijikata wants to ask the yorozuya nicely to cooperate and becomes completely tsundere and adorable and asdfghjkl and Gin-chan’s just like “HUH?!”. Sougo suggests that the demon vice-commander gets down on his knees and begs and of course, sadist Gin-chan likes that idea and there we go, more sexual tension. Hijikata’s find his own way of getting on his knees which involves him smashing Gin-chan on the ground and Gin-chan whines like an uke and off they go to chase the criminal.

They draw all the attention in the streets and Toushi actually agrees on buying Gin-chan a parfait, isn’t he kind? xD Sougo teases Hijikata via walkie-talkie, that is fun as well. And I still wonder how that fugitive can not realize he’s being chased by the two most attention-grabbing characters in the whole town, he even looks around I guess he’s just stupid as f*ck omg but who cares.

Now ensues my fave part of my fave episode. The “Act Natural”-Part in the café. Gin has obviously claimed the role of the seme since he decided to dance with Hijikata (their parents were dancers and they have the natural tendency to dance) and even put a rose in his mouth. Aw man, he’s leading Hiji so well, they should go participate in some dance competition xD

Hijikata insists that mayonnaise is an “almighty item”. That’s a line worth quoting forever and ever.
The mayo turns out to have laxative in it because Sougo is still Sadist No. 1 and they both end up eating some of it and oh…there comes the toilet humour again, ahahaha.
They desperately try to think of a way to not have a “rendezvous in the restroom” ,as Gin-chan calls it *ahem* *wink*, working out plans from A-D with the last one being successful but ridiculously difficult. Their voices and faces when their “bowels are in agony”, it’s just so fuckin’ hilarious. Seiyuu-tachi, you are devine creatures indeed.

Aaand to maximize the sexual tension a bit more they follow the fugitive on a scooter and as they fight for the seme position again everything looks gay. Especially how Gin-chan twines his legs around Hijikata’s body….awwww yeaaah!
They reach the hideout and Toushi threatens Gin into behaving and playing along for while longer. (“Want me to get down on my knees again!” Please, you guys, you are way too obvious xD)

They end up fighting all dem criminals like a boss. They go on about how they are not friends or together but kick so much ass as they are a perfect combo that it all seems like a biiiig excuse. They also do a FUUUSIOOON! ;D

Sougo frees them from the handcuffs and notices how those two really get along and Gin-chan’s and Hiji’s expressions are so cute in the end. All annoyed and tsundere. And eventually they still think exactly the same thing. xD
GINHIJI/HIJIGN all the f*ckin way, it’s beautiful~!♥

Holy muffins, I have no friggin idea. I never disliked any arc in particular. This challenge is getting harder and harder, oi! Should I go with a random choice again? Well, nah. I think I’ll pick the one that I have the faintest memories of. The “Train Samurai Arc”. It wasn’t bad, really. Possible points that I could mention are that there’s no Shinsengumi in that Arc and a character I don’t like gets attention (Eromes). But even with that said, I still don’t dislike the arc. I had to choose something though, desu yo ne? Forgive me, Patsuan, even though it’s an arc with you in the focus...

Episode 87

Everything in this episode makes me cry. The characters are all at their emotional limits and so fuckin’ brave and beautiful and it doesn’t matter how often I watch it I always shed tears and with this Gintama proves once again that it can go from hilarious to serious to heartbreaking whenever it likes and do it perfectly. And even though this episode is very unhealthy for my feels I love it so very much.

That question is, if you’re honest with yourselves, not possible to answer.
Gintama is an anime that lives of its hilarious episodes, so it’s really hard to pick just one. Because the show is random I have decided to randomly choose a random episode. To maintain the Gintama spirit in this challenge.

Episode 161:

“Laputa’s still good after seeing it so many times”

In that episode the Tsusengumi Team (Hijikata, Kondo, Sougo and Yamazaki) are fighting for the position of Otsu’s official fan club with Shinpachi’s fan club (Shinpachi, Gintoki, Kagura, Taka-tin) as their opponents. After Hijikata’s team won the first round because Otsu couldn’t stand Kondo (poor chap, therefore he gets more love from me) they now enter the second one which entails setting up a story and setting for a date with Otsu and winning her over.

The first thing I really need to point out is that Gin-chan is playing with Taka-tin’s nipple in the beginning. As a fujoshi I just couldn’t let that pass by me without any legit reaction so here we go:

And then the Tsusengumi’s Charisma Act begins and omfg, when I watched it the very first time I literally rolled over the floor laughing. Sougo as the narrator definitely adds up a lot to that. As well as Hijikata’s constant mental remarks of disapproval on it. He doesn’t even know what he has to do and has to hectically change into appropriate clothes when things have already begun, a lil’ bit of fanservice, yay! He looks so good in his suit with his shirt open asdfghjkl s-so dazzzzling my eyes gahh!

Anyway, Sougo goes into way too much detail about the most trivial facts and fills the story with several Ghibli references. Hijikata’s nickname in the story becomes Laputa and Kondo, as the bartender, is just bullied by Sougo as he uses his “Master” and “Bation” joke (Oh god, I can’t, this joke is so Ginatma’esque and I’m still laughing about it like an idiot).

Then they bring out Yamazaki dressed as a woman, with his Mohawk dyed red, and they start a big discussion about Ghibli girls, even Sougo as the narrator joins in but in the end they still succeed in the absurdest way. (For just going along with the flow the host calls her a slut. lol that’s so true xD)

Next is Team Shinpachi with Gin-chan as the narrator. He turns it into a Journey to the West-Parody setting, romantic as he is, haha. Their goal is to reach the “Gandara Vehotel” (Grand Love Hotel) but Otsu doesn’t like the setting because she suspects something dirty, no shit! (Otsu is pretty stupid though. In the Tsusengumi Act she just went along to the “Hotel in the Sky” and one event later she’s complaining about Love Hotels on the very first meeting. Lol, maybe it’s just because Toushi has so much more appeal than Patsuan…gomen but it’s true xDD)

Gin-chan is another narrator that gets involved in the happening of the story like he was a participating character and has conversations with the others. Later he turns into a walking board and joins the others in the Gandara Vehotel. Otsu is left outside and for a long while they travel with her just sleeping in the desert because she refues to enter the hotel. In the end they prove how much they care about her and she checks in with everyone else. Actually both parties just got her into a love hotel…and the Shinpachi’s Terakado Tsu Fan Club wins the match.
And Kondo is ignored by the host…poor Gori-chan.

I especially lost it at the Laputa part, I don’t know why. They seiyuu just did their job so incredibly well and I don’t know…Gintama is just Gintama. At that time I felt so bad for laughing late at night and loud as a derp, alone in my room. But I had fun. That was Day 17 for you, arigatou for reading.

I think out of all the freaky-deaky, kick-ass characters the one I can relate to the most is Yamazaki Sagaru. He always finds a proper way to distract himself from the work he is supposed to do, he plays badminton and if they’d sell anpan over here I’d probably also eat it as much as him. I can’t say I’m very good at spying on people but still, somehow he seems to the one who could most likely be my soulmate. And I also love Zaki in general, he is kinda underrated as a character imo.

O~ho~ho! I’m being oh-so-very-original on day 17; the first character that I thought of is the protagonist of whom the first song of my association is his very own “Sen no kaze ni natte”. That song so powerful that even Sugitan’s okaasan called with her, by now (in)famous, words: “Tomokazu, sing more properly!"

A song so powerful that it lets the dead rest in peace and makes humanity shed tears. A song that can only be sung by Sakata Gintoki aka Sugita Tomokazu. And that’s my contribution for this day.

Hmm, both are great but I think I’ll go with the anime. I’m a sucker for animation in general but my main reasons are still the amazing soundtrack and the seiyuu that make Gintama even more precious than it already is in the drawn version.

Every voice actor fits the character so perfectly and strengthens the emotions they feel and show. I wouldn’t want a Gintama without all these gorgeous people. Oh and I also want it BACK!!

On the other hand the manga has the advantage of continuation and Sorachi-sensei has improved his drawing style a lot since the first volume. Well, I’m very thankful that the manga and an anime coexist(ed) so beautifully even though I prefer the anime a teeny tiny bit.

The challenge demands so here I go. It’s Gin-chan and his Gin-Face. From the episode when he regains his memories.

When I saw this screen the first thing that popped up in my head was: “Good Morning Starshine, The Earth Says Hello!” So picked it for Day 11. And that’s the end of the story. I can never get enough of Gin’s expressions anyway.
