Final Fantasy II (IV) - Super famicom and SNES
It's my first time playing a Final Fantasy title and I'm glad I chose this one. I've always wanted to expose myself to the series and this is the oldest I could confortably play and one of the shortest of the series. I know there's no right order, but I planned on playing this game before the other ones.

The game itself is not very difficult, but I didn't find it a very pleasant experience. I actually found it extremelly boring.

Random encounters are really annoying and it's frustating not to be able to avoid the many many fights I had to have. Running from battles is very slow and punishing. Also, progress is very slow. I could feel for the first time how many tricks they used to implement to make a game last longer, like slow walking without running option, length of the majority of battles, number of random encounters, etc.

I was always comparing it to Pokemon, which to me is a much better game regarding gameplay. Story-wise though, this game is much superior to any Pokemon I played before.

Even though my initial reaction to the series is a bit negative, it may be because I don't like RPGs in general. I might be discovering that. Nonetheless, I'd say I see how this game can become a confort food for many people. My interest on the other versions of this game, for DS and PSP, certainly grew after I played the original, now that I know how everything works.

I plan on playing other Final Fantasy games in the future. It's like a quest to me. I just need some time to recover my energies.

Took me around 30 hours to finish it. 24 days, on and off. Used a guide to accelerate the process in the second half of the game and found a lot of secrets. Finished it in January, 22.

Personal Rating: 1/5. Very boring.

Kirby's Dream Land 3 - Super famicom and SNES
I just finished it for the first time. It's one of those classic games I set myself to play.

The visuals are OK, nothing too special, but I think the controls for this game are awful and that takes away most of the fun.

The Keke little witches though are super cute.

It took me around one week to finish it, on and off, without guides or any sort of external help. It's not a very difficult game overall. Finished it in January, 29.

Personal Rating: 1/5. Very boring.

I have very old and fond memories of this one. It's one of the great games of my childhood and the only Bomberman I actually like.

I finally finished this game. It was the only one from Donkey Kong Country original trilogy I didn't have as a kid and the only one I hadn't beat.

I don't know how many hours I put on it, but I divided the gameplay in two parts. I started the first part so long ago I don't even remember. And a few days ago I started playing again for completion sake. I'm glad I finally took that weight out of my shoulders.

It's not an easy game. In fact, I think is the hardest game in the series. The controls in Donkey Kong Country series are not good in general, but I think in this game they are at the lowest level of quality and feel always off-putting.

The soundtrack is good thanks to David Wise. My favourite track is by far "Stickerbrush Symphony". It's very melancholic and memorable.

That said all, this is my least favourite Donkey Kong Country in the trilogy. I guess the one I like more is the third one, then the first and then this. But I can say it's not a bad game. I just don't like it that much.

Finished it on Febuary, 4.

FIFA 14 - PC Games
It's been a long time since the last time I played this game. It was sitting on my Origin library and for some reason I decided to download it and played a match.

I never got used to those "new" football games and by "new" I mean football games beyond PSOne era. They've always felt slightly off to me, but I didn't play them as much as I played the old ones. That's probably the reason, even though I think it has to do with the degree of realism of the newer games.

Still, it's a good game.

I don't bother buying new versions of football games. That's why it's so old. To me they are all the same and I see no value in upgrading them.

I played this game already for more than 40 hours. It's a sandbox game and I love the liberty it gives to the player to do whatever he wants.

That said, I never got really into it to try to finish it. I play on a superficial level because the idea of really diving into it seems a bit overwhelming to me. The speed of progress doesn't look very high either. I end up getting bored as I play and see practically no progress.

I just played this game for the first time after hearing about it a lot and having it on my Steam Library for ages. I played about 8 hours of it and I can finally understand better what it is about.

As I played I felt something was off and I couldn't put my finger on it. The combat is not very good to my taste, but it wasn't only that. Then I started thinking about the games I like. I'm a big fan of Okami and that's why I thought I would like this one. I came into it thinking it was an Action RPG, but it turns out that it is a lot more of a Sandbox game. Or at least that's how I feel while playing it.

Skyrim has story, but is not a interesting one, or at least it's not presented well enough. The quest system, used in other games, is very shallow to me in this one. The world is beautiful but empty. And the combat is awful.

But it made me realise a few things. First, I like tight controls and engaging combat. It should be fun to battle and defeat enemies. It's not the case in Skyrim. The combat is superficial. Second, the story, even though not the main part of a game to me, should be a bit interesting and the final objective should be clear. It's not that case in Skyrim, where you can be whatever you want and don't have a clear objetive from the start.

After a quick research I notice people talking a lot about MODs. I heard about them before but now I think I understand them better and their relation to the game is clearer.

Skyrim is a Sanbox game with RPG elements set in a medieval time. You can be wander around and be whatever you want. Its empty structure is perfect for you to create your own story, be it using MODs or just your imagination.

I won't say I don't like Sandbox games. I have fun with them, for a while. Then I get bored. If the story is not engaging and the combat is not fun I just can't make myself play it for long. That's why I don't like Skyrim that much.

I may get back to it in the future, but with a different mindset. I'll treat it as it is: a sandbox game. I cannot expect good combat and/or good story from it.

Personal Rating: 2/5. Not my cup of tea.

I played it for a little bit, about an hour or so, just to feel the gameplay and know what it is about and now I have a better understanding of it.

I guess I'm trying to find a game to cater to my crave for NiOh and Bloodborne, and this one is definitely fitting. It reminds me of Onimusha too, in a sense.

I heard people say they love it and heard people say its gameplay is slow, especially when compared to Bloodborne or NiOh, but I don't think it's too bad. Actually, from the games I tried recently, I guess this one is the best.

Fallout: New Vegas - PC Games
This was also my first time playing this game, or any game in the Fallout series, and I got to say I like it a great deal better. No wonder I heard a lot of people praising this game as the best in the series and I'm glad I'm giving this one a try before the other ones.

Differently from Skyrim, I felt this game had better story or at least the story was better presented. It made me care about the characters right away in a way Skyrim could not. The "combat" is also better. It's a shooter after all.

The dialogue is engaging, got me interested in the story, and there are a lot of courses of action you can take, each one of them having different and meaningful consequences. It's well structered in that way for you to feel immersed.

[A bit of SPOILERS ahead, but nothing major]

In the second half things went south, though. I was eager to finish the game and sided with Mr. House, as for some reason I was a bit ahead in his line of quests. From there on I made all decisions to end the game as soon as possible.

Right before I got bored I was thinking about siding with the NCR, or at least have a better relationship with them, but I gave up on that. They seemed alright, but I knew I would side with Mr. House for the ending so there was no reason to waste time building trust with them.

I decided to kill the Boomers and the Omertas, with no regrets. The Boomers at first appear to be harmless, but I didn't like the way they treated outsiders and got suspicious over why they decided out of the blue to give me a free pass after trying to kill me. Also, if they wanted me on their side they should've at least offered me something instead of giving me chores, especially after what they've done.

As for the Omertas, they were awful and I couldn't bother.

The saddest thing I did, I think, was to use Veronica to get to the Brothehood Of Steel bunker and explode it, killing almost everyone inside it. She seemed very nice, funny and useful, so I felt pretty bad about using her to make my life easier murdering her friends. And I let her live to forever think that she was the sole reason her dear friends are dead. I can't really blame her for asking me to "leave her alone".

Oh, well...

[End of spoilers]

I ended the game on Level 14, pretty low I think, and it took me 32 hours first try. I lost a lot of time in the first half of the game while I figured out what the game was about and learned what mattered and what didn't.

As for Personal Rating, I don't know. I guess the game is good, even though I was really bored in the second part. I like the degree of freedom this game gives to the player. I've never seen such a thing so well implemented before.

My boredom may exist only because I wanted to finish the game and because I don't like exploration very much. I like a sense of progress that exploration hinders. I feel like I'm wasting my time walking around.

It's better for me when I know exactly what to do and the challenge is in the gameplay, or when the only thing in the way of me finishing the game is my hability to play it.

I feel bad about giving it 3 out of 5, but it feels fitting. It's a great game and it acomplishes a lot, but it's not made for me so my experience couldn't be better than that even if it was perfect.

If I was to rate the game on it's own merits it would have a way better score, but that's not what I'm doing here. I only rate a game in relation to my personal experience and tastes.

Finished on February, 18. Read some guides to speed the gameplay.

Personal Rating: 3/5. I got bored.

This is an awful game, as boring as it can get. Most problems come from the interface, that is really bad and unattractive, bu the system behind it are also way too unrealistic.

I'm around 4 hours into this game and I don't like it very much. It's very narrative driven, the gameplay is not enticing and I don't really buy into the character.

The controls are a bit stiff and constantly fight me because of all the realism put in the game and there's a lot of talking for little action.

Go here, talk to this guy at the table, go there, talk to that guy on the other table, then go to the barracks talk to the other guy, then go to the house in the road, talk to the girl, then go back, talk to Vasemir, and THEN kill the monster. Now, go back and talk to the guy at the barracks again, and then the girl shows up. Talk to her. And then the guy in the castle, and then the emperor, and then the girl again.

Why all that? Why not give me a cutscene if all I'l doing to walking and talking to people to get to the action? Things like this really bother me because they gave me control when it wasn't necessary or fun. It fells like a waste of time. And the gameplay or the combat isn't even that fun to begin with.

But this is a very well made game. The production value is very high and the optimazation is great. CD Project really outdone themselves. And because of that, I'll not rate it today.

I think I'll give it another try in a later day, maybe on a lower difficult setting just to enjoy the story, as the gameplay doesn't feel fun to me.

This game is REALLY GOOD!

The graphics are great, the combat is really fun, the story is interesting to follow, not intrusive at all! You have your cutscenes but then it goes back to fun. Fun, fun, fun.

It's so refreshing to see a game that feels that good. I'm so glad I picked this up!

It's a gem.

GRID is a game I like a lot, but the graphics are a bit outdated right now so I bought this one, the third installment in the series. Aside from the graphical improvement, the overall feeling of the menu and presentation is a bit better.

I still need to dive into this game and see how it really feels, but I think diving into this one isn't going to be hard. My initial reaction to it is very positive.

I'll wait a bit to give a Personal Rating. I haven't seen enough yet.

UPDATE

As of today I played a little bit more of it and I undoubtly like it. I guess I'll play this one from now on whenever I feel the need to play a racing game. The Walking Dead - PC Games
This game does a really great job in introducing you to the world and the characters. I ended up hooked for the first episode right away and completed the game in a few days.

It's definitely good. The gameplay could be better, of course, but it is a point and click game so gameplay shouldn't be the focus and it isn't. The story is good, but not great, even though there are touching moments and the narrative made me care about the characters.

[Minor SPOILERS]

Having agency over the story is good, but you soon realize that no matter what you decide the fate of the characters and the ending is going to be the same. The characters that died would die anyway, and you're going to the places the story set you up to no matter what you want.

You soon realize how the story gently pushes you in a singular path and that takes away a bit of the enjoyment. It certainly takes away replayability.

On the story side, I mourned a bit when Carley died. Clementine was my priority, but Carley was the second most important character to me and the one I trusted the most. It was just sad that she had to go.

If you want to be really hard on it, you can say it's a game with mediocre story and bad gameplay, but it made me think about my choices, my values and made me care about the mission of the main character and the fate of Clementine. A game that does that already acomplished something very special.

[End of SPOILERS]

I enjoyed my time with this game. I don't know if I'll ever come back to it but it was a great experience.

This game is really good, better than Skullgirls, but not as good as the other ones in my opinion.

It appears to have a very cherished story mode and I'll try that later to see if it is good, but I can say right now that it has much better production value.

The cenarios are more interesting, as are the characters.

My only complain in that regard is that the 2D characters seem a bit jarring when contrasted with the 3D high definition background. Had they made higher resolution characters I guess it would look better, even though it may by a artistic decision to make it appear more like anime.

Further information:

This is my oficial rating for games. It's very objetive, but it also reflects the ability of the game to keep me entertained or it's importance for the industry.

1 Star - Started it:
I saw some things, but I didn't finish it.

2 Stars - Played a big chuck of it:
I saw a great deal of the game and understood the mechanics, but didn't feel the need to finish it. This normally happens to racing games. 2 Stars may also be applied to games I currently playing. In this case they will receive a 4 or 5 Stars when I finish them or continue with 2 Stars if I abandon them.

3 Stars - Never-ending game:
Games that don't have an oficial ending (i.e Cities Skylines and Rocket League). Could receive 4 or 5 Stars if I finish any sort of story mode of them.

4 Stars - Finished it:
I completed the main story and reached credit screen, but didn't go any further. (i.e. Alladin for SNES and Onimusha 3 for PS2)

5 Stars - Completed it:
I've done and seen everything. (i.e. Super Mario World and Super Mario 64)
