BOB HOPE has been my favourite Hollywood star since my childhood - especially in those wonderful "Road" pictures with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. I never missed any of his films when growing up as a schoolboy in Halifax, Yorkshire. It was therefore a real pleasure and privilege to be introduced personally to Bob Hope in 1993 by the Mayor of Hollywood Johnny Grant. I was staying at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with one of my Tour groups from the U.K. and Johnny told me at breakfast that Bob Hope would be there that morning and that he would introduce me to him!! I assembled all our group in the famous Blossom Room (where the first Oscars were held) and we waited for the great man's arrival. Johnny Grant told Bob that we were from England and in fact some of the group were coincidentally from Eltham which was where Bob Hope was born. Bob was delighted to meet them and walked along the line chatting with everyone and shaking hands. We also met Dolores Hope and I had pictures taken with Bob and his wife and told him I had attended his shows at the London Palladium back in the sixties! My favourite Bob Hope films are "Road to Morocco" (1942) and "Son of Paleface" (1952). Incidentally, any Bob Hope fans out there might be interested to learn that the complete series of Bob Hope television shows are now available on DVD from Hope Enterprises. I bought five recently including the October 28, 1977 two hour colour special "On the Road with Bing" which was Bob's tribute to Bing Crosby. Anyone wanting more information can go to bobontv.com
