Female vocalists I don't want to strangle
And then my second favourite of all time. A quirky songstress who plays the harp and tells epic and fantastical stories in her songs.

Florence Welch
Played to death on the radio since the release of her album, I think maybe I just became accustomed to the sound of her voice. Has a bit of a manly tinge to it! The Flagship's rating:
Karin Dreijer Andersson
She sounds really angry all of the time, with a really strong accent. Also appreciated her guest appearance on Royksopp's last album. The Flagship's rating:
I used to think the songs sung by Nina Simone were actually sung by a man. How uncultured. I should've known it was a crocodile skinned diva behind that evangelic voice!

Régine Chassagne
She doesn't sing all that often, but when she does get a singing part I generally enjoy it. Her song 'Haiti' is one of my favourites from the album and I wish she'd had more to do in their recent release. The Flagship's rating:
I just like her because she's a bit alternative and has an attitude. She's conjured some great songs in her time as well.

Natasha Khan
Was well late on the Bat for Lashes bandwagon. I saw her live before I'd even heard an album by her, and it was... nice. Nothing spectacular, but an interesting voice nevertheless. The Flagship's rating:
Hilarious over-the-top girlie rock that doesn't suck. What a novel concept.
The Flagship's rating:
Looks like a man, sounds like a man, I really have my doubts...
The Flagship's rating:
This band is essentially the female version of The Smiths, and the lead singer sounds pretty much just like Morrissey - dead pan and all. It's all good. At least it was until they split up a couple of years ago.

I don't dislike X-Factor either, though ;)
