1991

The old guard in rock music gave way to the new. In other words, Grunge broke in 1991.

Two rock superstars of the late 1980s delivered really strong albums - Guns n Roses and U2. One Grunge band delivered their breakthrough - Soundgarden, and two Grunge bands delivered stunning debut albums - Pearl Jam and of course, Nirvana. In addition, the whole alternative rock revolution outside of grunge picked up steam as well. The Smashing Pumpkins delivered their debut and RHCP delivered their stunning breakthrough album.

Outside of hard rock and heavy metal, Sting delivered a classic, Massive Attack delivered a stunning debut, Sarah McLachlan started her run of massive success in the 1990s and of course, Roxette delivered an album that remains a guilty pleasure to this day.
