It's an obvious one, but can you blame me?! You'd hard-pressed to find any other theme song as recognizable as this. Sure, the music may sound cheesy now, but it sure as hell sets up the show, and need I say more about the great Rod Serling's narration?

It's all sunshine. Almost every single character you'll see in this show is laughing. Laughing in the face of backdrops like a destroyed city and a giant mushroom cloud.

Paranoia Agent was all about leaving the viewer in the dark until the finale hits them. When I was first starting to watch this show, the intro made no sense to me (Then again, neither did the show at the time, but that's beside the point). However, these character have gone through challenges and what's the best way to release it? Laughing.

This review/summary on the Final Episode has spoilers after the first image on the page appears. The beginning is a further elaboration on the intro's brilliance.

The Simpsons (1989)
No explanation needed. From the different sight gags (The chalkboard and couch gags to be specific) to the sight of the Simpsons family themselves getting home, it's perfect for the show. Even today, when the Simpsons has gone on far too long, the couch gags are better then the actual episodes themselves.

House M.D. (2004)

It's weird for me putting this on the list, because, thinking about it more, this is a pretty standard intro. The actor's names and the character's faces appear along with medical imagery. Seems basic, so why put it so high?

Tear Drop.

The music to the intro is absolutely perfect, the heartbeat sounding rhythm to the soft male choir at the end, it's proof that sometimes, an intro can be elevated by it's music alone. Bonus points for getting me into Massive Attack, the band that created the song and making by Mezzanine, the album which Tear Drop which I highly recommend.

As of this writing, I'll admit that I'm not finished with the show yet (Though I am invested). However, that doesn't stop it from being amazing. The creepy computerized voice in the beginning to the way the title character stares at me through the static, it's a intro that while it's music is wonderful, has a dark side to it. More thoughts will be talked about once I actually finish it.

AND NOW THAT I'VE FINISHED IT...

...I have no idea what I sat through when watching these 13 episodes...but I feel satisfied. This is definitely a series that I'll have to watch a couple more to get a better grasp on it. Unfortunately, the intro is better experienced when watching all the episodes. You may hate it (Which many of you probably will), but while I don't have all the answers, and may never will, I sure as hell am going to enjoy myself in thinking of new ones for this.

Twin Peaks (1990)

Technically, I'm cheating, since this is just the intro the pilot, but then again, it pretty much opens the series, so why the hell not?

Like the opening to House, there really isn't that much to talk about. In fact, there's less. All it shows is the beautiful nature surrounded by Angelo Badalamenti's haunting theme for three minutes.

Nothing special...until Fridge Logic kicks in. The haunting music is basically setting up for the surreal route the show is going to take. There's not much more I can say about it, except, watch the series, you'll see what I mean.

Evangelion is one of favorite things that's ever existed, but the show would not be the same without it's iconic theme song. True that it's poppy in contrast the psychological madness that starts midway through the series, but it's still the same thing! Right from the start, the intro caught my eye and pulled me in the moment the first verse started. If that's not the sign of a great intro, I don't know what it is!

Louie (2010)

You know I brought up how most intros can be minimal? Louie encompasses that, to put it lightly. The most exciting thing that happens is Louie eating a pizza for about 6 seconds.

It's boring, but then again, so his life in general. And like the intro says, he's gonna die someday, so what else can he do but live on with his miserable life? If it sounds like I'm being pessimistic, you have NOT seen the show yet.

The Intros

It's hard for me to talk about this in detail because since it's still on (And shows no signs of it ever being cancelled), there's been so many different intros, so I'll just keep it brief.

*The music and the images keep building up with each season.
*Primus absolutely fucking nails it along with the boys (Bonus points for getting me into those freaks of nature).
