![]() Mario has a brother you know. Luigi never gets any love. The games he has been in he's always second fiddle. When it is a game with just him, it sucks. Luigi needs to be recognized not only as the supportive brother, but also the one who never complains about Mario always stealing the spotlight, the princess, the coins, everything really. ![]() The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the unforgettable fearless foursome. Countless episodes of the cartoon showed that they cannot succeed unless they work as a team. The only bummer about this game on the NES is that it's two player; there are later adaptations that enabled four, or you could be awesome and buy the arcade cabinet itself. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Bub and Bob. Yes those really are there names. Bubble bobble is just one of those games that the concept is so simple, it just works. I had to wait till college to find someone who loved the game as much as I did and was finally able to beat the game with 2 players to view the truly final and happy ending. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Contra was another NES game I mostly played alone, no one was good enough to play with me. Fortunately that's what best friends are for. Bill is great but Bill and Lance together are an unstoppable force. What's better than the spread gun in this awesome game? That's right, two spread guns. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Battletoads. A weird mash up of frog/toads named after every teenagers facial acne nightmare. Pimple and some princess chick get captured by some hot queen lady and you have to rescue them. Have no fear, Zitz and Rash are here! This game's two player was a blessing and a curse. You were glad for the help of your sidekick fellow when it came to the beat-up levels, but the races were a memorization nightmare times 2. All in all, Battletoads still has quite a following despite no new games for many years now. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Double Dragon is probably the first time I threw my NES across the room. This game is freakin' hard! Without the help of your brother and "faithful" sidekick Jimmy, Billy doesn't stand a chance. For those who were able to stick it out, or cheat, and get to the end find out that *SPOILER* you have to fight each other for the girl! This game practically created the phrase "bros before hoes" because seriously, you don't fight alongside each other all those levels only to try and kill each other over one chick. ![]() This game was such a graphical jump from the NES when it came out. I was never into Donkey Kong, but Diddy was just so cool! The younger, more hip, more cooler dressed Kong of the family, no one ever used Donkey unless they accidentally killed Diddy. Plus with that cool cartwheel move, there was just no stopping this little sidekick who really steals the show. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
I know this game is awesome. You can even play as different characters based on the level. But seriously, where would anyone in the Star Wars universe be without...
![]() R2D2!!! Seriously, he saves the day all the time and what does he get? Some whip-smack talk from golden rod. R2D2 saved your butt in this game, he was your checkpoint, your guiding light; without him you are nothing. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() I debated about which Final Fantasy's to use on this list. None really seem to have "sidekicks" and even in VII they aren't really "sidekicks" but if there was a "sidekick" I would have to give it to Barret. Don't get me wrong, Barret is awesome, more-so than that sissy Cloud. Barret started Avalanche, that underground group causing all the ruckus in Midgar. But he takes the backseat to Cloud because he has to. Oh and did I mention he has a gun for an arm?!? Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() I'll be honest, this game was a little bit of a letdown, the sequel even more. But what I love is the sidekicks. Get a clue Disney/Square Enix: No one cares about Sora or his friends. We want the mashup of two awesome worlds, Final Fantasy and Disney. Having Donald and Goofy as your sidekicks is the best thing about this game (next to getting Beast in the last world), they provide comic relief while keeping that stupid Sora kid alive, they are indispensable. ![]() I know Trish isn't in DMC a whole lot, but it's kind of hard to forget her, not just for her looks either. Some forget that Trish is the reason you are able to defeat Mundus in the end. That and she's awesome, cocky, and a good character to pair with Dante. Even in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 she kicks so much butt. If only she was in the anime series more... regardless, from the very first opening cut-scene you know Trish is awesome and fearless. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
Not to be confused with James Cameron's "Avatar" this is probably the only cartoon that came out after I had grown up and out of cartoons that still caught my interest. It's unique, it's awesome, Aang has some great friends and sidekicks like Sakka and Katara. But when push comes to shove, the unforgetable sidekick is easily...
![]() Momo! Seriously, everytime this little guy was on the screen, he was doing something that made me laugh. Whether it was not understanding a word Sakka and Katara were saying or fighting over food with Appa, Momo brought out the laughs. All that, and in this game the more you play you can eventually unlock a 2 player fighter mini-game, and yes you can play as Momo. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Resistance was ok. Resistance 2 was awesome. On American soil, you got some help from some other soldiers. Joseph Capelli was the loudmouth one and most of us would know him first and foremost because he was in the trailer as the one threatening Nathan Hale. Capelli swore that if Hale ever turned completely chimerian, he would be the first to kill him. I think most of us liked Capelli just from that. Even more so when *SPOILER* the most awesome and epic ending in video game history happens by having Hale turn and Capelli saying "Forgive me sir, it was an honor" and capping him point-blank in the head! Are you freakin' kidding me?!?! That just happened!??! I couldn't be more happy with the ending to this game. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Borderlands is fun. Where is the comic relief? In that little robot, the Claptrap. He helps you in the beginning by showing you the ropes to the game, he introduces you to characters, he shows you your first bounty board. Later other Claptraps give you extra inventory slots for helping them, and there are even hacked Claptraps who cop an attitude. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() Jan Ors saves Kyle Katarn's butt more times than I can count. Not to mention she's attractive. I like Jedi Knight because there is that little bit of love tension between the two, but it doesn't overshadow the rest of the story. It actually takes a backseat, as it should, until the next game after this one. Jan is cool too because if you choose to play as a Dark Jedi you *SPOILER* get to kill her! Yeah, Kyle's a jerk when he goes dark, but for all the power of the Valley of Jedi he had to make some sacrifices; after all attachment is forbidden. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
I just couldn't pick one of them. Team Ronin is incomplete with Othello and Bishop. Othello is the awesome likes-to-blow-crap-up dude who isn't afraid of just charging in. That and his "Clench them cheeks, yeah!" taunt will make you laugh everytime. ![]() Bishop is a bit of a crusader who believes he is ordained by God to kill the enemy (Boondock Saints anyone?). I love Bishop for his charisma and his quotes "created in his image, destroyed in his name" always gets me laughing as well. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
![]() I freakin' love this game! InFamous is just awesome gameplay, awesome story, awesome everything. Zeke is a great sidekick because he's so down to earth. I also like it because it makes it feel so real: like if this Cole guy really did get superpowers because of some bomb going off, this is what an average guy would do. And what would you do if your best friend just got cool superpowers and you didn't? *SPOILERS* You'd betray him to try and get some superpowers yourself, duh! People don't like Zeke for this but I feel for him. I mean, if my best friend got superpowers, I'd try and recreate what he did to get some myself, who wouldn't? Play the sequel and you'll see their friendship grows and they are able to forget the past, it's really good story writing. Sabin Kenobi's rating:
