Dylan wrote it, The Band popularized it and many others have covered it. But my favorite version of I Shall Be Released is sung by Nina Simone. When she sings about freedom, you feel it. Her version has such a haunting but beautiful aura about it.

I also recommend Jeff Buckley's version. My least favorite would have to be Jack Johnson because he makes it sound like "Don't Worry, Be Happy".

3. I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye

I Heard It Through The Grapevine

I can't help bein' confused
if it's true please tell me dear?
Do you plan to let me go
for the other guy you loved before?

Though technically Gladys Knights and the Pips released I Heard It Through The Grapevine first, Marvin Gaye's is still the most well known. I love girl group sound that GK and the Pips have with this song and how it sounds so cheerful despite the lyrics.

I also love the Creedence Clearwater Revival version.
