1. Stephen King
This is the author I keep coming back to when I need a great read. His characters are so well developed I feel like I am right with them through every adventure that they experience.

2. Gary Paulsen
Gary Paulsen is a great children's author. His writing style is exciting and characters very believable. I try to get my students to read him every year. Once they experience him, they usually return for more.

3. Lois Lowry
I got hooked on Lois Lowry when I read "The Giver." I read this story to my class every year and they love it.
She is another author that has created characters that are easy to relate to.

What can I say, I love the Harry Potter series. I can't wait to see what she does for a follow up.

5. Sharon Creech
I was impressed with Sharon when I read "Walk Two Moons." My daughter has read this story at least ten times since I turned her on to it. Enough said, she has a great talent.

6. Andrew Clements
I was hooked on Andrew Clements after reading "Frindle."
This is still one of my favorite original stories. He grabbed and kept me on for the ride and I have read most of his stories.

7. Robert Heinlein
A sci-fi master who is often imitated. A true pioneer from the golden age of science fiction. Read any of his books that have won the Hugo Award and you will be hooked.

8. Stephen R. Donaldson
His Thomas Convenant series is a classic. I couldn't wait for each edition to be written and cheered when he decided to do a second trilogy.

"The Di Vinci Code" is a classic, but you should read some of his other stories to appreciate his talent.

Like to read something different and well off the beaten path. This guy will make you laugh and wonder where all these crazy ideas come from. His stories are well crafted and very funny.

12. Peter Straub
His writing style is very similar to Stephen King's. When they wrote "The Talisman" together I was blown away on how well the writing blended together. His own stories are wonderful to read.

13. John Sandford
Even though I think he has over done the "Prey" series, I love his writing style. When I want to read a fast paced action story, I know that Sandford will deliver.

14. John Scalzi
John is a relative newbie in the world of sci-fi writing, but I think he has already made his mark. His "Old man's War" was so orginal and great to read. He got me hooked and I have read all his books that have followed this ground breaking novel.
