Dysfunctional Families- The Compendium

Victor***Ida As a child, Victor was kidnapped from various foster care situations by his mentally ill, semi-delusional mom, who would neither provide him with a stable environment or relinquish him to the system. Some years later, the mother Ida is becoming senile in a rest home, and is visited by her emotionally damaged sex addict son, who deals with the fact that his mom has no clue who he is. She relentlessly mistakes him for old acquaintances, and heckles Victor on the whereabouts of her good-for-nothing son. He persists in trying to discover the identity of his father, though, the answers he discovers may be no more reassuring than the ones he has. To top it off, he is sleeping with his mom's physician, in hopes she will keep Ida out of the extreme ward and a far-fetched mission for recovery and an understanding of his roots. *Dys. Jack***Wendy****Danny On a whim, unstable (as a understatement) writer Jack Torrence takes his wife and young son to a secluded hotel where he plans to spend the winter as a caretaker. The family has had their share of problems. Jack has had a previous alcohol problem that caused him to become violent, and the kid has an imaginary friend who talks through his finger. Before you can say 'horror movie fodder,' strange things start happening happeng around the hotel, which may be figments of bat-shit crazy Jack's imagination, or signs of an actual haunting. James***Nancy***Donald A deteriorating English former aristocratic family living in a decaying mansion, the Brocklebanks are losing the last shred of sanity they have left. Dad Donald is bankrupt and simultaniously cares for sick mum Nancy and his schizophrenic childlike 20-something son James, who he treats with ugly contempt. James, in turn, behaves as he is treated times ten when Donald is forced to go away on business. James then locks the doors with intentions to care for Nancy and be treated as an equal by his cold father, but his original intentions are one-upped by delusions and angry fits. If daddy can make mommy take pills, why can't her son make her take a bowl, even by method of force-feeding? Oh my.  moviebuff15's rating:

Incest, humiliation, and psychosis, oh my! Julien is a paranoid schizophrenic young man who lives with his sister, pregnant with Julien's baby, their wrestling trash-can throwing younger brother, and their cruel and probably mentally ill father, who calls Julien's sister a 'dilettante and a slut' and sprays Julien down with cold water. Their depraved endevors are shot with a home video cam, from Julien's hallucinatory conversation with Hitler to a home wrestling match, giving off the feeling that this family is recording their worst moments and never their best. Only for the strong-stomached and those willing to see a royally f-ed up family's downward spiral, with no easy answers. moviebuff15's rating:
