Dubbed v. Subbed
as good as the original voices are, you just can't get that all-american slang in japanese. all of the slang and accents are done accurately and really just add a lot more to the atmosphere when you watch it in english. not to mention the dub is one of the most supurb i've ever watched. imagine how surprised i was when i saw that a lot of the cast were newcomers. and let's face it, the "THANK YOU! FUCK YOU! THE STAR IS HERE!" line is the greatest thing ever. BRODO's rating:
Lain's dub just doesn't capture the innocence (or pedophillic, more like) feel that the original japanese has. the dub kind of fell flat for me. BRODO's rating:
this is a tough one, because some characters i prefer in japanese, some in english. sometimes I like Ed and Al's original voices better, and sometimes their english counterparts blow the originals out of the water. to clarify, i think "night of the chimera's cry" and "the philosopher's stone" are hand's down better in english, while i watch "reunion of the fallen" exclusively in japanese. honestly, though better in different ways, the two are usually on par. great dub example (this entire episode is dubbed incredibly, really) BRODO's rating:
i personally thought some actors didn't give as good of performances as the first fullmetal alchemist (edward and roy, for example), but again, both are evenly matched. however, some of the more emotional scenes like when riza pulls her gun on lust, or when envy dies i actually enjoyed much more in english. in both fullmetals, i actually noticed that i liked the more emotional scenes (usually with a character crying or in pain, etc.) better in english, but the fight scenes and main talking points were better in japanese. BRODO's rating:
really, this is an obvious one. the sub is also absolutely incredible, but the dub of cowboy bebop is easily one of the greatest ever created. really, it's just a legendary dub. BRODO's rating:
this one was a bit more difficult, because the main characters are done very well in the dub (though it took me a little bit to like jin's voice), but the sub is simply better. i always thought the side characters were done much better in the sub, and considering how many there are it is actually a big deal. BRODO's rating:
this one is almost more obvious than my cowboy bebop choice. it's no secret that inuyasha possibly has one of the worst dubs ever created. however, i don't particularly think the sub is anything special. but god knows anything is better than inuyasha in english. BRODO's rating:
every fiber of my being tells me that i should like the sub so much better, but the dub just struck the right chord with me. it is similar to fullmetal alchemist in a way: some episodes i prefer in japanese, others in english. the english can definitely get hammy or grating at times, but damn do i forgive it, because when it's good, it's much better than the japanese. also, even though the japanese voice actor for vash is much more experienced, the english voice actor just portrayed him spot on. this clip explains what i mean. BRODO's rating:
i'll be honest, even though i love this show, both are irritating. however, subbed is less irritating. BRODO's rating:
i was adamently against the dubbed version of this show for the longest time because i had watched it right when it came out in japan. but i recently watched it in english and i have grown to appreciate the dub just as much. though, no one can match miyano mamoru's tamaki, because that was complete and total perfection. BRODO's rating:
there's just something about the dry, weird delivery of the dub that i love. the sub is good, but i just think the english dub did a better job of delivering that dry humor. BRODO's rating:
simply because i cannot stand shinji's voice in english (okay, so i can't stand him, period). i hate him in japanese too, but i hate him slightly less so. i don't have any opinions other than that, really. BRODO's rating:
