Differences from books to movies: Harry Potter

Sort by: Showing 9 items
Average listal rating (898 ratings) 6.6
1. Daniel Radcliffe
HARRY POTTER

Harry is described with green eyes in the books, while he has blue eyes in the movies. Harry's hair is described as very untidy in the books, but in the movies it isn't that notable.

In the book, Harry looks into the Mirror of Erised and sees his whole family. In the film, he only sees his mum and dad.

In the book, when Draco Malfoy paralyzed and covered Harry with his invisibility cloak on the Hogwarts Express, it was Tonks who rescued Harry. In the movie there was Luna Lovegood who found him.

In the movie, Harry never learn that it was his father and his friends who made the Maraurder's Map. In the movie we just learn that Lupin knows how to use it.

HERMIONE GRANGER

In the books, Hermione is described having large front teeth, which isn't that notable in the movies.

Hermione founds S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) in the books, but it did not make it to the movie.

3. Rupert Grint
RON WEASLEY

Ron is described as the tallest of Harry's friends in the book, but he isn't that tall in the movies.

In the book, Ron has freckles, but in the movies he have none.

4. David Thewlis
REMUS LUPIN

The books highly invested on the story between Remus and Nymphadora Tonks, while there were little about it in the movies. The only thing that indicate their relationship is when Remus & Tonks leave the Burrow on Christmas Eve, and Tonks calls Remus "sweetheart".

The movie doesn't show anything about the fact that it was Fenrir Greyback that bit Remus.

Average listal rating (1415 ratings) 8.3
5. Gary Oldman
SIRIUS BLACK

Most of Sirius's backstory was cut from the movie.

6. Alan Rickman
SEVERUS SNAPE

More focus is put on the fact that Snape is the Half-blood Prince in the book than in the movie.

7. Ralph Fiennes
TOM RIDDLE A.K.A. LORD VOLDEMORT

The story about Voldemort's ancestor Gaunt and his family were not shown in the movie.
Lexie's rating:

BELLATRIX LESTRANGE

Bellatrix is described in the books as having long, straigth black hair, while in the movie she has more bushy hair.

The attack of Bellatrix and Fenrir Greyback on the Burrow was not in the book.

9. Matthew Lewis
NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM

In the book, Neville is described as short, plump and blonde. Meanwhile, in the movie he is quite the opposite: tall, somewhat slim and dark haired.

The story of Neville's parents is not in the movie.

There are so many things they cut. :/ It's actually disappointing as the movies as a whole could've been so much better if they had just followed what Rowling had set into *her* book.

They should have given Gary Oldman more time on the screen as Sirius Black!

Well, is not easy to transfer 500 pages of a book in a 2 hour film...

I was sad Dobby wasn't as much in the films as he was in the books but anyways, and a really really liked the change in Snape's dead, that was really really good!

Hate to be known as the critical one but I have to say a couple of things: 1) Dan was going to wear green contacts but he was allergic so he couldn't for medical reasons 2)Because they were already cutting Tonks part, they were playing Luna's character up 3) Rupert with stilts or high boots or whatever else just wouldn't have worked so we got him the way he is-and lets be honest, would we have wanted another Ron? 4) Emma did a part with big front teeth to try it but it just didn't work out 5)I was so disappointed that they didn't have time for Remus and Tonks but they had to do what they had to do :( 6) Many viewers would not have wanted to have to listen about histories of people- I mean how do you incorporate that?- NOT to say that I would have minded I loved learning about Tom Riddle and Severus Snape 7) To be honest, I do commemnd you for remembering Bellatrix appearance but at the same time I think Helena Bonham Carter did an excellent, excellent job and I could not have asked for better 8)Neville was slightly plump in the younger movies
