Well, sort of a strange month for me. Watched 54 films and was really trying to catch up on all the Oscar picks that I had missed out on watching. As well as films tagged as "horror" and I was pretty sure they were in fact not horror. So... sort of a strange mix across the board.

Documentary

I had read quite a bit about this film and thought that some how I might get bored with the film. However, the case does take some strange twists and the communities reactions are worth watching.

A Black Comedy about a group of men who want to be terrorists. Extremely funny... however... could see how some might be highly offended by this film.

Based on a true story this is a very dry and dark film. You thought your family was messed up... well here is another sort of family.

I think me and four IMDb reviewers were the only people to actually like this understated film. Much has been said about the sexual graphic nature of the film (less then found in Shortbus) personally I didn't mind the imagry. I think the film did a great job of not just capturing the erotic but also how awkward and strange the human body can be... especially during love making.

A very simple and straightforward film that I found poetic, sweet and endearing.

I really liked this movie but I'm also a Rugby fan and try to keep up with certain teams from time to time.

And while I do love Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, I found them to be too large of actors for the rolls. I would have preferred slightly lesser know actors. It was rather difficult to suspend disbelief with Morgan Freeman's rather distinct voice hashing out a South African accent.

Pretty sure that the poor rating for this film has been due to people expecting this to be a horror film.

I knew full well that this was not a horror film before renting. It is a sad sweet story of people dealing with the unexpected return of their dead loved ones. The story only concerns the population of one small town so you don't fully get an idea of the global phenomenon. If your looking for a film that deals with love, death and letting go, in an unusual way... this is worth taking a look.

A romantic film where the characters are raw and neurotic. The surrealist aspects blended well with the very human insecurities.

There were a few aspects to this film that touched on relevant issues. However, they were too few and too scattered. The end of the film is about as fantastical as "It's A Wonderful Life". Seriously, job creation and an American companies that actually produce a product... LOL What is this Star Wars?

This turned what could have been an important film into "The year my son had to go without Xbox". Still, the film delivered what it is clearly stated on the outside of the box "Company Men" which I obviously should have read as a warning label.

The cinematography and rich capturing of sounds make this a film worth spending some time with, however the story is very flat. I found it difficult to engage or connect with this film beyond the surface qualities. If your a fan of Béla Tarr's films then you might enjoy this film. Regrettably, the film is beyond my palate or appreciation.

I tried watching another film about the Oliver Hartwin case and didn't get very far. The story is just far too disturbing without the need for a screen adaption. So, I actually wouldn't have normally watched this film.

I am glad that the story was told through the eyes of a graduate student researching the case. I think having that character as a buffer to the story was essential. Still, it is that character which is the weakest part of the film. Many of her statements feel like she is projecting her feelings on the case. Her conclusions seem to sound false. The film never gives any insight or comes full circle with her story. So, whatever talents Keri Russell has are wasted on a script that could have been told from the point of view of a table lamp.

Still, this is perhaps the only film I ever plan watching regarding the Oliver Hartwin case. So, this was a good choice as it never felt like it sunk to a gore exploitation film.

There is a creepy old guy suspected of murdering kids years ago who roams the woods. So... NATURALLY you go in there. This was high quality cheesy horror fun with a decent script. Nice to see William B. Davis in this little romp.

French - cannibalistic-hick/killer-in-the-woods slasher flick. The first part of the film did well in capturing rock climbing with fear-of-heights tension. Then quickly becomes your typical goofy "Wrong Turn" spin off.

You're absolutely right about The Company Men. I understand that some rich people are also getting fired from their jobs, but making a movie about their plight is completely offensive to the dozens of people who are facing way worse circumstances. I don't have a problem that they made the film, but they should've just screened it at country clubs.

And glad to meet a fellow lover of Benjamin Button. There aren't as many as I'd like, lol.

Wow, what an interesting mix of films here indeed! Glad to see you enjoyed May, The Raven, Four Lions, Hard Eight, and several others here. Some of these I'll be looking into...always appreciate seeing your thoughts on what you've watched!

And thanks too for linking to a couple of my lists. :D

Alright! One helluva month of movies! Where to begin? The top I spose...

Been inexplicably avoiding Munich. Guess I should quit with the silliness.

Been Purposefully Avoiding benjamin button. Always thought it looked sooo sappy and hokey and over-hyped. And cripes, 3 hours long! (cuz you know, being a neuro-surgeon/world-hunger relief field-officer that I am my time is sooo important). Okay. I'll relax on the unjustified indignant response to the ridiculously long run-time and hopefully give Benjamin Button a fair shake.

Four Lions has been staring back at me from my I.Q. forever. Should now check that one off soon.

Highly intrigued by Animal Kingdom, Orgasm Diaries, They Came Back, Birthday Girl. Never heard of any of em.

Very happy to see you enjoyed The Adjustment Bureau. Even while giving it a rather underwhelming 7/10 rating I still felt like I liked that movie more than just about anyone on the planet. Goddamn cynics ;)

"murderous twins with psychic powers it is about time!" / "as in I forgot that I had actually slept through this movie once before" -- LMAO!!

Glad you dug From Within, I'll have to check out The Abandoned.

Great to read your thoughts on so many of these! Hope 'Dear Cinema Diary' enjoys a long, distinguished run!

Easy Rider is one of the quintessential films of the American New Way movement. So, I appreciated it for that aspect but it has been personal torture for me to plod my way through all those films.

Rebel Without A Cause, actually dropped in rating for me watching it a second time. I forgot that the end sucked so badly. Still, great cinematography so it was fun.
