Lebron James being portrayed as a racial stereotype.

Average listal rating (17 ratings) 5.8
2. Stella Tennant

Stella's unrealistically tiny waist, which was obviously photoshopped.

3. Kristen McMenamy

Vogue Italia August 2010

Controversy:
The implied depiction of the BP oil spill at the Gulf of Mexico.
I personally don't see what's wrong with it but I guess its controversial because it is taking a stab at big oil companies.
brazilfashion's rating:

Vogue US May 2007

Controversy:
Anna Wintour's choices for the "World's Next Top Models."
Anna Wintour was mainly criticized for making choices based on favoritism. Many say this was not representative of the current top 8 models in high fashion. Calling the girl's the "World's Next Top Models," was also criticized because some of them had already been very well established in the fashion world, most notably, Raquel Zimmermann, who has been established in high fashion since 2000.

7. Stephanie Seymour
Vogue Hommes International Fall 2012

Controversy:
The romanticization of domestic abuse.

Average listal rating (1044 ratings) 5.8
8. Madonna
Vogue US May 1989

Controversy:
Anna Wintour puts a celebrity instead of a model on the cover of Vogue.
I think Madonna is a decent choice for a Vogue cover even though she is not a model because she was a major fashion influencer. But I absolutely despise it in the sense that this was known as the beginning of Anna Wintour "changing the face of Vogue" by putting actresses and singers on the cover instead of just models.

Average listal rating (73 ratings) 7.1
9. Carolyn Murphy
Vogue Paris November 2007
Carolyn Murphy poses with transgender, Andre J.

According to the gossip vine, a secondary controversy also erupted because it appeared that Andre J was supposedly impersonating Naomi Campbell. Rumor has it that Naomi was furious when she saw this cover and thew it across the room. Whether or not that is actually true, we will never know.

I like this! It's amazing what people will take offense at or deem controversial...Sometimes I wonder if the media didn't deem something controversial...would people find it so?

I agree that what gets deemed as controversial is often ridiculous.

I guess maybe the 5% of people who are offended make a lot of noise and the media loves to jump on anything "scandalous."

Interesting list! :)
But I don't get number 6... what's the problem with Plus-size models on the cover?

^ It's the idea that when they put "Plus Size Models" on the cover it has to be about the fact that they are plus size models. The fashion industry is still heavily biased towards being super thin and they won't just put a plus size model on the cover and treat them like a typical model.
