This is a list of movie soundtracks (often confused with scores) that include contributions from Classic Rock artists. Listed in the notes are key Alt. Rock artists for each album. If anyone knows of some more or has any general critique of this list, do not hesitate to comment.
My suggestions: both volumes for Dazed & Confused, The Doors soundtrack (makes sense, yeah?), Zeppelin's The Song Remains the Same (soundtrack for their concert film), Flash Gordon (Queen) and the Highlander (also Queen), 200 Motels (Frank Zappa), Heavy Metal soundtrack, Almost Famous soundtrack, Rock N Roll High School soundtrack, and Last Action Hero soundtrack.
Easy Rider had a classic rock soundtrack and was probably the first of the modern soundtrack albums as we know them today.
The Big Chill had a very popular soundtrack, although most of the songs were Motown instead of rock. The only rock I remember on it was Procol Harum's 'Whiter Shade of Pale'.
The 'Electric' Western, 'Zachariah' had music by The James Gang featuring Joe Walsh, The New York Rock Ensemble, Country Joe and the Fish, and Doug Kershaw.
'American Graffitti' had a best selling soundtrack album featuring late 50's and early 60's Rock and Roll.
I know some more, but I will come back to them later.
Thanks, blankend! I couldn't find the Zachariah soundtrack, and I'm not sure if I should include The Big Chill. Do return with more suggestions, by all means!
That's all I can think of for now...
