1. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 - PlayStation 2
If you enjoy character driven stories, interesting story (murder mystery ho!) and something that splits combat up with a fun sim system, this is the game for you.

Although you may hate Teddie. This is normal, just saying!

2. Tales of Symphonia - GameCube
While the story may be something basic at the start (save the world by going on a religious journey) it grows to be much more. The main character can be a bit of a sucker but the rest of the cast makes up for it. Regal is by far my favorite.

3. Final Fantasy Tactics - PlayStation
One of the best Tactical RPGS out there, and something that you should not miss if you enjoy deep combat and hundreads of options.

4. Legend of Mana - PlayStation
Beautifuly drawn sprites and backgrounds, music that is amazing, non linear gameplay...what more do you want?!

5. The Complete Ultima VII - PC Games
I consider this the pinnicale of the Ultima series, and if you enjoy old school PC RPGS you should play this. Make sure to get complete so you get both Black Gate and Serpent Isle.

6. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - PC Games
For those of us who are more mature (heh BOOBIES!) this game has it in spades. The story is interesting, the world is unique. Its just a fun game. Can be a bit annoying combat wise though.

7. Breath of Fire III - PlayStation
While I am a hater of silent heroes, this game does it well. It also is less about saving the world and more about growing up. You start off as a child, and you follow Ryu (the MC's) journey to discover who he is and where he comes from.

8. Grandia - PlayStation
Just an awesome adventure, although I will be the first to admit that the Voice Acting makes my ears bleed (I will end you Sue god help me!)

9. Mass Effect 2 - PC Games
"You got RPG in my Shooter! You got shooter in my RPG!"

Thats what I think when I play this. Its a near perfect blend of how to do an action/FPS/RPG Hybrid. The story is epic as well, and the characters are, for the most part, all interesting. My only complaint about this game is the planet scanning minigame. To give you an idea of how much I love this game: I have beaten it 4 times now, and have a 5th playthrough in the works.

10. Earthbound - Super famicom and SNES
Earthbound is probably one of the strangest RPGS you will ever play. Its set in modern times, has a lead who is simply a born hero (not some emo kid or swordsman with a mysterious past) and the magic spells are psychic powers! You also fight things like Hippies, Gang Members, and my favorites: The blue cultists! Who are in love with the color blue. The soundtrack is also something that cannot be missed. All in all, a near PERFECT game

11. Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura - PC Games
If you like Steampunk and non linear PC RPGS you need to check this one out. I have never completed it sadly I will admit (I get too sidetracked and then lost) but the game itself is loads of fun. The music is amazing as well.

12. Star Ocean: The Second Story - PlayStation
This game is just something else. Yet another one I have personally never finished (got close though but then had to give it back to the guy I borrowed it from) this one has 2 different main characters and depending on which one you choose, you will have different events AND recruitable party members available! It also is a fairly long game (I hit 80 hours in one playthrough and was still not done at the time.

My selection of some of the best RPGS currently around. The ones that any RPG Lover should play.
