Released in 2003 by Infinity Ward based on a Quake III engine, Call of Duty is a first-person shooter which throws you into some of the most intense historical battles of WWII, with levels taking you thru the American, British and Russian campaigns. Infinity Ward was founded in 2002 by 22 former employees who were responsible for the Medal of Honor series.

Released in 2004, CoD: United Offensive is an expansion pack for Call of Duty. It was developed by Gray Matter Interactive, while Infinity Ward was working on Call of Duty 2. New missions have been given to all three campaigns (American, British and Russian), as well as some gameplay enhancements.

Released in 2005, Call of Duty 2 is a first-person shooter eveloped by Infinity Ward, the same developers that created the original Call of Duty. It kept the same popular formula of scripted cinematic missions, with a certain number of levels devoted to the American, the British and the Russian experiences in World War 2. Where it differs is introduction of smoke grenades, as well as removal of 'health kits'. In CoD2, if you get injured, the screen turns red and you need to take cover until your health regenerates.
