Black Mirror is an anthology series. This means that there¨s probably going to be a huge difference in quality every now and then. The first season only consists of three episodes. Two of them were good and one of the were bad. I did not particularly care for the first episode. It was just weird, and it didn't have any of the impact that the two later episodes had, nor did it offer any intriguing concepts. The second episode was by far my favorite. I like that this show seems to go for dark, bleak and hopeless endings. We don't have enough of that when it comes to films and TV.
Is more of the same. Some strong episodes. Some that are not that interesting. I do however start to sense a bit of predictability within each episode though. The 'White Christmas' episode was amazing though.
The second season of Stranger Things is mostly good, but it's brought down a lot by some huge story problems, as well as some characters being essentially tossed away or glossed over. I think that the season does a poor job of handling Eleven. For the most part it seems like the showrunners had no idea what do with her other than that they needed her to save everyone in the end. The episode that has her going out on her own adventure was horrible. Worse is what they did with Mike. He was barely there. The whole subplot with Nancy feels dumb, the whole "justice for Barb" side story is annoying, Steven is just there for being there's sake and so forth. There are so many characters that feels wasted or inconsequential. I like Hopper though, and I liked how they developed Max and and Lucas.
It feels way to slow at times, only for thing to artificially speed up towards the end. It lacks a lot of the mystery that surrounded season 1 and made it so memorable. Thankfully, it toned down the nostalgia pandering a notch. There are still some horror elements in it that I like quite a bit, and I'm still curios to see where they are going - but taken into consideration how strong season 1 was, I was a bit let down with season 2.
Dark is a brilliantly twisted German Netflix series that everyone ought to check out. I've seen people claim it's sort of similar to Stranger Things, not that I really think it is, but if anything Stranger Things is the fast food equivalent of Dark. I adore this show. I love the cinematic visuals of it. The sound and music perfectly blends together with gorgeous cinematography in a feast for eyes and ears. The characters are all well-developed over the show and there are so many twists and revelations throughout the 10 episodes that it may occasionally be ha difficult to keep track of it all. Yet, it's the complexity of Dark that makes it so intriguing. I will not say much about what the plot is or what kind of show this is, as you'll have a much better experience going in blind, but Dark is quite possibly the most fascinating show that Netflix have put out.
Here I'll list whatever TV show I might end up watching. Either on Netflix or on blu-ray.
