I never imagined that I would end up liking it as much as I did. I thought it was a blast. An entertaining, well-paced, funny and surprisingly emotional action film that cleverly worked its way into the rest of the franchise. This is also the best, coolest and funniest Arnold performance since his comeback.

I'm also surprised by how well they managed to handle the timeline of the whole universe. Considering that it was basically already all over the place, this could have easily turned into a major clusterfuck. But despite a few confusing moments to begin with, everything is tightly balanced. But the most surprising thing is the element of emotional weight it offers. The chemistry and emotional bond between Arnold and Emilia Clarke is very effective. This gives me a connection to the film that many new blockbusters lacks, and it gets me emotionally invested into the action scenes, as opposed to just being indifferent to them.

The action is solid. Sure, it might have been gritter and more brutal with an R rating, but that doesn't bother me as much as it's clearly bothering other people. It was still entertaining, despite some of them being a bit generic.

Emilia Clarke delivers a solid performance as Sarah Connor, playing out the tough and soft side of her with ease. She's also insanely beautiful in this film. I mean, just woaw. Jai Courtney is a bit meh, but that's how he always is. Jason Clarke is fine, but I would have really preferred it if they had gotten Christian Bale to reprise his role instead. And as stated above, this is the best of what Arnold can do.

So I didn't really have much issues with Terminator Genisys. I thought it was handled cleverly. Entertaining and emotionally effective are the keywords here. I must admit that I'm a bit disheartened to see a film like this, which felt like a genuine effort getting rotten reviews, while something as bland as Jurassic World is getting a lot more slack. Oh well.

There are solid points in Salvation and I would probably argue that it's better than its reputation would let you believe. The effects and action is solid, and it does have its nice moments were it pays homage to the previous films. It doesn't necessarily make sense, but that's fault you can bring up in Cameron's Terminator as well.

There are definitive script issues though. Mostly decisions my the filmmaker's that are a bit hard to understand. Like reducing Christian Bale's John Connor to something of a supporting role, and mainly focusing on some random guy.

The third instalment is a huge step down in quality. It does feature some cool moments, and some great action sequences, but it's mostly bugged down by being overly corny and silly.

The biggest problem lies however in the fact that villain is boring. Kristinna Loken is not menacing. She do not share the same amount of terror as her two previous Terminators.

If it weren't for the fact that Terminator 2 runs for a solid amount over two hours, I would almost think that this would be a perfect action film. But it feels a little bit overlong. Still, it's a skilfully crafted action film that remains a classic in its genre. Cameron perfected special effects for that time and elevated the action sequences to new levels, while staying true to the foundation set by the original Terminator.

I wouldn't try to think too much about the timeline of the film's plot and such, though. Unless you want a headache.

The role that Arnold was meant to play. A role that perfectly manages to take his limitations as an actor and play them as strengths. There are many elements of The Terminator that may look a bit outdated today, but this is still a rock solid action film.

The plot is engaging. The characters are well-developed. The humour is spot-on, the threat is menacing and the action sequences are thrilling.

It's a wonderfully animated and delightful film with a lot of charm and humorous moments. It's rather entertaining film, despite it using every familiar story beat that we've seen before.

But Big Hereo 6 is a film that relies a lot on Baymax. This is a character that delivers basically everything that's note-worthy in this film, and without him it would have been very average. Instead it's been elevated to good.

Turist, as it's originally called, is a really awkward and unpleasant film. Yet, it's absolutely hilarious. It's pitch black comedy, and you do feel kinda bad sitting there laughing at how the situation the characters have managed to get themselves into gets more chaotic and tragic.

It's also a film that just keeps on improving and getting better for every scene that follows. The next scene is almost constantly funnier and better than the previous one, causing the film to never have a drop in quality. It's also very beautifully out together. It's very clean and simple to look at. No fancy shots or quick editing. It's slow and calm in its film language, but chaotic and frenetic in its storytelling. Which works like a charm.

There are parts of Jurassic World that angered me, and those parts doesn't necessarily have much to do with the film itself. So I'll just start by saying what I think of the film. It's a mediocre popcorn film. There are dinosaurs here. The action is decent enough. It's basically the bare minimum of what one should expect. Everything else is poor or generic.

What angers me with Jurassic World is that it have received such high praise by the audience, despite it being a very generic film, that's not really that much different or better than the previous two instalments in this franchise. Overall over the Internet I read things like "It's not the worst movie ever" or "At least its better than the other sequels", and "yeah, the plot is kinda dumb, but at least there's some good dinosaur action here."

Is that where we set the bar? That a film is at least somewhat passable? That it at least delivers some decent CGI action with dinosaurs in it? Because if that's where we're going to set the bar from now on, we're going to continue getting dumb, poorly written and underdeveloped franchise fillers. It delivers dinosaur action on a huge budget, but that's the least minimum of what we expect the filmmakers to deliver to us. It doesn't deliver anything above that. It doesn't try.

I'll just say it; I loved this film. I absolutely adored it. A perfect blend of action, comedy, violence, drama and over-the-top silliness, sprinkled with some clever homages to other spy films. Wonderfully shot with a lot of style and flair. The characters are extremely likeable, portrayed by a solid bunch of actors delivering good performances. Colin Firth is particularly really enjoyable.

I loved the fact that it was full of surprises. That you couldn't possibly guess what would come next. The constant change of tone added to that, and ended up actually working in towards the film's advantage. But honestly, it was just so bloody entertaining. The last time I had such a pure fun time was during the first Kick-Ass. And a dollar to the one who guess the director of that film.

The roughly first 30 minutes of What We Do in the Shadows were pure gold. I absolutely fell for it. The way it managed to breathe fresh air into two tired genres (found-footage and vampires). The jokes rarely missed and it moved along with such a pace that I was always laughing, and just having a great time.

Then something it happened. It started to feel a bit stale. A bit repetitive. It felt very much like it was playing one the same note the whole time. The consistent laughs were replaced by a chuckle here and there. There is a masterpiece to be found here, but I really think that it needs to be trimmed a lot.

The third chapter in the Insidious franchise is much better than what any third film in a horror series has any right to be. It's not directed by horror master James Wan this time, but writer Leigh Whannell does a more than competent enough job in handling it.

Naturally it's a film that uses a lot of jump scares, but it's thankfully only a few ingredients in a film that manages to deliver several forms of horror. There's for instance one scene that basically only shows the feet of someone that is pretty terrifying. There's also a surprisingly decent amount of thematic depth to it.

En som deg (2012)

I do have some mixed feelings towards this film, as I've been editing my own version of it as a part of a school project. And when I now finally saw it, I was naturally comparing it to my own version. And while I wasn't completely satisfied with my own take on this story, I did prefer it over what's the actual cut.

I don't really think the film succeeds very well in building up any of the relationships, and the lead character do come across as being very unlikeable. The film is also full of so many coincidences that I simply can't buy because the film doesn't make me believe properly in the love story.

I Belong (2012)
@ School

A film that consists of three, or four if you count the small narrator part, stories that doesn't really connect with each other in any way. It's a film that probably could be interpreted as a film that's just showing the life of ordinary people during certain a certain time.

The problem I have with the film is not necessarily that it is particularly bad, the problem I have is rather it's nothing above ordinary. There's nothing interesting happening. None of the characters are given any proper development because of their limited screen time, and there's no resolution to anything. And as a random look into random people's life, it's just not interesting enough.

"Like a Norwegian Game of Thrones" it says on the blu-ray cover. Whoever wrote that was either drunk, or on some heavy, never discovered substances. Because this is just garbage. I can appreciate that they tried to make a film like this in Norway, but there's nothing in it that makes even remotely sense.

There is some nice cinematography present here, but everything around that is total crap. The dialogue is awful, the acting is atrocious, the story manages to be completely obvious, yet it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. None of the characters are fleshed out in any way. I'm a young Norwegian, who hopes to one day be able to edit a full length feature film here. But if this is what Norway's going to continue to dish up, then it's sufficient to say that I've sold my soul to the devil.

Run All Night (2015)
@ Cinema

I love Liam Neeson. I love Liam Neeson kicking ass. Run All Night is therefore exactly my cup of tea. It's very entertaining, and not surprisingly, quite heartfelt. The gravitas and emotional depth that Liam Neeson brings to these roles, gives this film a whole new layer. Making it even more enjoyable.

The chemistry and relationship he has with Ed Harris's character also gives this thrilling and suspenseful action film some added depth. This is a very well-crafted film in its genre, and it should be saluted for that.

Must say that, after watching it, I'm surprised to see all of the negative reactions to this film. I'm surprised by how few people have seen it, and how terribly it has scored on IMDB and Rottentomatoes. It's slightly shocking, and I can't really quite wrap my head around it. Is it because it's not exactly what people might expect from a Arnold film? Because he's actually acting in this one?

Now, it's not a masterpiece, it really starts to fall a part during the third act, but up until that I was really enjoying this story and character driver blood fest. Arnold is compelling to watch, and the huge cast is enjoying to watch. Which is what this film is.
