The World's End starts of rather clunky, exhausting and tiresome, and I were sitting there thinking "Oh no, why?" But then it luckily picked itself up, and got really funny. There were moments where I was laughing hysterically. And I loved how things just got so freaking weird.

It got a bit clunkier towards the very end, and I don't think the film wrapped itself up nicely enough. It's very enjoyable, but not Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz enjoyable.

There's a lot of visual spectacle and dazzling special effects in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It's most definitively a fun film. The action is entertaining and there's a lot of humour that works surprisingly well.

Jamie Foxx serves as a pretty interesting Electro. While he does have that clichéd "scientist-in-accident" origin, there's another layer to him that you don't see very often in super-villains these days. Dane DeHaan also works very well as a villain. The problem here is that film struggles a bit when handling those two at the same time, causing both of them to feel underused. Stick with one villain is often a very good idea. And when you combine that with Peter Parker's parents sub-plot, you get a feeling that the film has tried to do more than what it's capable of. Pacing is a big issue, and it's definitely too long for its own good.

The greatest asset of this film is Andre Garfield and Emma Stone. They have a real chemistry, and every scene between those two are great. They're sweet, charming, funny and they leave me with a big smile on my face. I would be willing to watch a film with only those two interacting with each other for 90 minutes. It's that great.

Unfortunately, we won't see Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy for the third film, as she's killed off. Which is a huge mistake, in my opinion. It removes the greatest strength this new franchise has had, and it did completely break my heart. I'm booing.

You're Next (2011)
@ Blu-ray

You're Next is not particularly scary or suspenseful, but it makes up for that by being quite funny and very entertaining. It manages to handle a clichéd setting with bringing in a lot of creativity and "coolness".

If there's one thing that's disappointing about this film, it has to be that very few of the actual deaths are imaginative. There are many deaths, and there is a lot of gore, but the kills are quite generic. But the overall entertainment value of You're Next is quite high.

Crowsnest (2012)
@ Netflix

The found-footage horror genre is not only getting tiresome because there have been made plenty of them, it's getting tiresome because they're being made by incompetent people. Crowsnest falls straight into that category.

Every horror element in it is bafflingly generic. Five stupid teenagers, drinks and drugs, alone in the forest, unknown murderer. You've seen it a countless number of times before, and the found footage style adds nothing to it. Other than to make the whole film very confusing. Confusing in the sense that it's impossible to see what's happening, as the camera is mostly aimed at the ground, while shaking quite frequently. It's some of the worst camera work I've ever seen.

Bad acting and stupid characters were expected, but the characters in this film are so fucking dumb and annoying that it's almost amazing that no one in the crew asked the director/actors "what they hell are you doing?"

This film is staying clear of the lowest rating because of one nice turn towards the end,but this film is quite honestly an abomination. You don't do horror this way. You simply don't.

It's not that I expected greatness or anything, but when you deliberately seek out trash, one is allowed to hope for an amusing time. But Mongolian Death Worm is not as amusing as its title. Instead it's just dire.

Soulless, boring, insulting to filmmaking. A travesty. It depressed me.

Munger Road (2011)
@ Netflix

Low-budgeted "less-is-more" horror/mystery that attempted to be something much more serious and better than what it actually is. This is a film that features something that's a very typical horror film plot, but instead of just creating fun schlock out of it, they've decided to take the film way too much seriously.

Which is why it fails so miserably. The plot is presumably based on some sort of local thingy, and it's clear that the filmmakers are intrigued by this. But the film is just awfully written. The dialogue and characters are horrendous, even by low-budget horror standards. The pacing is terrible, and the film feels like it's way too long. Which itself is rather funny, as it didn't even conclude the story. The film ends with a cliffhanger and a "To be continued" title card, as we're left guessing who the killer is. Who would really be interested in seeing a sequel to this?

But Munger Road's biggest crime is that it's completely suspense-and-scare free. For a film that treats itself so seriously, one should be able to expect some suspense, but because the film is so poorly shot, with bad lightening, there's no suspense or tension to be found. Due to the "less-is-more" approach, none of the kills happen on-screen. Which is a major sin in a horror film.

Noah (2014)
@ Cinema

I'm not a religious person, and I went into this film leaving every opinion and thoughts I have about religion at the door. This is a film portraying a biblical events, and I was fine with it being that. I'm not going to criticize it or praise it or anything for showing something that I don't necessarily believe in. But I'm going to praise Noah for being a damned good film. It's a really well-crafted piece of work that manages to be good on multiple levels.

First things first. That score by Clint Mansell is amazing, giving the film several, drastically different tones that worked exceptionally well with the way Darren Aronofsky pulled the story into different directions throughout the film. It's entertaining, unsettling, touching, well-acted and quite fascinating. Noah is good, but unfortunately, not for everyone.

The Counselor (2013)
@ Blu-ray

You can't blame anyone for getting excited about a Ridley Scott film with names such as Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz attached to it. Which is why it's so incredibly disappointing to see that the film failed to deliver. It's a slow film that fails to be interesting in its overly written dialogue, and it's not visually creative enough to compensate for the lack of thrills.

This is Cormac McCarthy's first shot at a screenplay, and this film should be shown as an example of how writing screenplays for films are very much different as opposed to writing books. Film is visual art. The Counselor feels like someone is reading from a book.

Old Boy (2013)
@ Blu-ray

If you're not familiar with the original Oldboy, I can imagine you being quite intrigued by Spike Lee's version of it. The basic premise of it is after all a very good foundation for an exceptional revenge flick with violence, bizarre twists and shocking content. This remakes manages to be suitably dark, twisted and violent, and it's a perfectly fine film to watch.

The problem is that it's so safe. It replaces the really dark stuff from the original with much tamer content. Which itself would have been fine if they added or improved upon the basic elements of this story, but they don't. It does instead feel like filler. It's not a horrible film, but this is really one of those cases were the original is just a lot better. Unless you fancy Elizabeth Olsen. She's rather good-looking.

I would say that the biggest problem with Oz the Great and Powerful is that it lacks magic, or any sense of wonder and excitement. For all its visual dazzle, it fails to take me anywhere interesting. There's nothing in it that particularly sticks with me, and it doesn't take me anywhere I want to be. It's a dull experience. If you can call it an experience to begin with.

Another problem is that there's basically no character to hold on to here. James Franco plays a rather boring version of himself, and none of the witches manages to strike with anything memorable. The plot follows the formula very closely, but it doesn't do anything interesting with it. Such a shame, Sam Raimi.

This French remake is in my eyes divided into two separate stories, that certainly connects with each other, but only one of those parts are really interesting in my opinion. And that's his relationship with his piano teacher. The other part just comes across as your typical gritty-crime-drama, and is not as interesting for me. All though seeing as how that part of his life affected him and his piano playing was neat.

The ending is also leaves a rather bad taste in my mouth, as I feel that none of the parts really sum up to anything satisfactory. But this is a visually great looking film with terrific performances, and some excellent music. Worth a watch.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is perhaps the most non-superhero film that Marvel has released so far in this cinematic universe. Instead it feels very much like a spy film. It works exceptionally well as that.

The action is intense and well-shot, the story is nicely with a lot of twists and turns. Some more predictable, some of them less predictable. The stakes are high, and you do really feel a real threat present. Which is something most of these Marvel films lacks.

Dark Skies (2013)
@ Blu-ray

Dark Skies has a lot of atmosphere, and it does release that atmosphere into some very small scares occasionally. It boats a solid cast, a fascinating premise that manages to be very mysterious throughout the entire film. You're never sure what's going to happen. Which is a relief.

The problem is that it takes everything it builds up and toss it into something that really can't be classified as a ending.

A very minimalistic thriller centred around a premise that easily could turn into just another very generic hitman-thriller. But director Perry Bhandal keeps everything surprisingly small. There's very little action in it, and it's instead a very character driven film. It's slickly made and the approach to the material is fascinating. It certainly helps that Luke Goss is damned good hitman.

The problem is that it's structure is very often quite the mess, and causes things to be unnecessarily confusing. The non-linear timeline ends up being a very big problem for this film, and is why I'm feeling inclined to give it such a mediocre rating. But for ambition alone, it's worth a look.

Evil Dead II is creative, campy schlock that manages to be very funny. It's very cleverly put together, and it's very obvious that they must have a had a lot of fun while filming it. And when something like that is obvious, it affects me as well.

But it's not constantly funny the entire time, and it does occasionally feel a bit slow, as well as slightly repetitive.

This film shows that Nicolas Cage can be a terrific actor if given proper material to work with. He's really good in The Frozen Ground. A film that is tense and fascinating portrayal of the hunt for real life serial killer Robert Hanson.

It follows the traditional serial killer mystery/thriller formula quite closely, and there are not really any major surprises to be found here. Still, I was very much intrigued by what was happening on the screen.

Definitely limited by its budget. The special effects were probably even dated in 2004. They're awful. That being said, The Librarian is a very cheesy, campy and rather stupid made for TV adventure. Comparing it to Indiana Jones is unfair, but inevitable.

I'm not going to say that this is a terrible film. It's sort of fun. I did think that Noah Wyle was rather funny in his role and he came of as being likeable. It's short, fast-paced and occasionally funny. It's a pass. I guess.

Jurassic Park III features quite a lot of impressive effects, and several fun action scenes. Meaning that Jurassic Park III is never boring. Sadly, that's all this third instalment has to offer.

The script is just downright lazy, featuring every kind of cliché there is. The dialogue is ludicrous, the character's motivations for doing... stuff are not anywhere to be found and the plot feels very much like a rehash. But I was decently entertained, nonetheless.

Steven Spielberg's sequel is mostly rather solid. The special effects are impressive, but the wonder and amazement from the first film is naturally gone. The story is not particularly great and it's certainly lacking Sam Neill's presence, even if Peter Stormare and Pete Postlethwaite almost makes up for that.

The action is well-done, even if some scenes tends to go on for too long (truck hanging on the edge of the cliff for instance). But watching a Tyrannosaurus rex going on a rampage in San Diego is awesome.

Jurassic Park does have some quite annoying moments in it, like the kids and a weak opening, but all that is forgiven when you look at how amazingly this film holds up. It doesn't look like it's aged at all. The dinosaurs are really brought to life in this film, and the visual scope of this film is truly magnificent.

But aside from being a visual experience, Jurassic Park is a lot of fun. Steven Spielberg knows how to craft films that are enjoyable in several ways. He's first and foremost a great storyteller, but he's exceptionally skilled in combining several genres into one, adventure, action, horror etc. It's all in Jurassic Park. And it works.

Charles Chaplin manages the extremely difficult task of making slapstick not only funny, but beautiful and heartwarming, as well. He tells a very simple story, but even the simplest of things can turn out to be something extraordinary if given enough care and love. Chaplin does that with this story. And it remains just as strong almost 100 years after it was made.

The only thing I don't like about it is that whole dream sequence. It felt unnecessary.

It's a mess. It doesn't manage to combine all those heroes into one 70 minute long film. Many of them are just there for being there's sake. It spends way too much time focusing on irrelevant things, as opposed to what's the real story of this film is. Therefore one doesn't get that there's a real threat here that recalls for all those heroes to be assembled.

It's poorly paced, so-so animated and the voice acting ranges from mediocre to decent. The action sequences are fine enough, but when there's nothing else that has been appropriately fleshed out, that's not too much to shout hooray for.

Stupid, crude and fucked up. Kill Buljo 2 is bigger than its predecessor, but it's not as funny, and therefore, it's not better either. This is, like the first film, just trash really. It's comedy trash.

You could easily make an argument for the lowest possible rating. Seeing as comedy is more subjective than anything. People laugh at different things. There are several jokes in this film that doesn't work for me and are more cringe-worthy than humorous, but it makes up for those by having some jokes that are so silly that I burst out in laughter. Guilty pleasure? Probably.

When I say that the best thing about 300: Rise of an Empire is a ludicrously funny sex scene, were we do get to see quite a lot of the ridiculously sexy Eva Green's boobs, does that say a lot about me or about the film? In this case I think it says a lot about this film. I thought it was dreadful. Despite all the visual imagery and trickery, CGI blood, beheadings and slow-motion, 300: Rise of an Empire was incredibly boring.

I actually missed Gerard Butler's presence. This is very much just an exact copy of Zack Snyder's 300, only this time mostly set at sea. And Znyder's visual style is flawlessly copied. But Snyder had characters in his film. The only character Rise of an Empire has is a scenery-chewing Eva Green. The rest of them are bland and forgettable. Action only works when you have proper characters in those scenes. Without proper characters it's just a bunch of stuff happening.

Many of these animated superhero films are surprisingly, and quite sadly overlooked by most people. This short Superman vehicle might have some lesser impressive (and possibly too colourful?) animation, but with a well-written script, that boasts a very relevant story with some quite interesting moral questions, this Superman film turned out to be rather good.

With so many live-action failures of the Man of Steel, it's nice to see that there are animated incarnation of him that manages to deliver a fun time, that's still dark and morally complex.

Die Hard is bloody entertaining. Almost a perfect action film. Combining great set pieces, explosions, machine guns and thrills with a likeable lead character. There are two people that makes this film work. Bruce Willis as the hero and Alan Rickman as the villain. Because of those two, you get emotionally invested into the film, and therefore, the action is not only empty visuals.

I liked it to a lesser degree this time, which is mainly because it's so incredibly slow to begin with. But once things finally starts rolling, it's enjoyable.

Black Sheep is certainly bizarre. A film about zombie sheep going on killing rampage. And it's bad. It's really bad. Which is why it's rather amusing. It's intentionally bad. It's just goofy fun, lots of gore and much silliness. And I appreciate it when some people get together and make things like this. That being said, I wasn't overwhelmed with Black Sheep. I get what it is, and I like it for being what it is, but I didn't laugh as much as I should have been doing.

It was very a hit-and-miss film for me. And that's the thing with silly humour. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't. A sheep driving a car off a cliff is silly, and I found it funny. Lighting up a sheep fart to cause an explosions is silly, but it's not really funny. And there are simply too many of those "not funny" moments for me to completely enjoy it.

Evil Dead II and Black Sheep are entirely my taste in horror-comedy, so I absolutely love both those films. But as you mentioned, I can see where both films would earn varied responses depending on each individual's personal taste & sense of humor. Glad you got some enjoyment out of both, at least. :)

I agree wholeheartedly with The Counselor even though I hate it much more than you do. It had the potential to be a great crime movie, but it was ruined by horrible dialogue, lack of excitement and the actors didn't seem too interested in movie. It's actually the worst movie I've ever seen due to the fact that no movie has ever pissed me off more than The Counselor.
