Almost falls into the "so good it's bad" category, but it doesn't quite reach that level because it's not ludicrous enough. Not in it's own way, at least. Because the weirdest thing about this film is how much they actually ripped off from Jaws.

It has a few moments of laughable moments. Such as how they've decided to combine real footage of an actual shark swimming around with the rubber-looking shark they've created. And the death scenes are so awful looking that one can not avoid chuckling. But it's surprisingly gutless. There's almost no blood here. No nudity. And not much trash.

Rarely do we see genre films on such a grand level as this in Norway. So simply by that, it was a fascinating watch. It was also interesting in the way that it dealt with Vikings in a some sort of National Treasure-way. But it never soared above being an interesting watch, and it's overall just an all all right film.

The issue lies in the familiarity to basically every other adventure/monster film that's been produced by Hollywood over the years. The plot is so full of clichés that there's not one unpredictable thing in it. Such a shame.

Piranha (1978)
@ DVD

Unquestionably spawned by the success of Jaws, but while it certainly borrows things from Steven Spielberg's masterpiece, Piranha is completely different film. That's just not as successful. It just doesn't take off. There are moments here that could have been really great if they were to be taken some steps further, but there's some restraint in this film that drags it down.

It basically should have been trashier and more hilarious. It's amusing at times, but not often enough for me to fully appreciate this film. It should have gone full out with more deaths, gore and nudity. Things we want to see in a film like this. But hey, that's why we have the Alexandre Aja remake.

The film has one "holy shit!"-moment in it that's extremely awesome, but that's basically it. It's naturally beyond ridiculous and cheesy, but it never gets so bad it's good. It's just bad and stupid. It's a boring film.

It might have been better if it wasn't for the fact that my Netflix was a bit troublesome this time, occasionally starting to lag. Causing me to pause the film for a few minutes every time. But still, it didn't give me much enjoyment when it was working properly.

Rob Zombie has directed two decent films in Halloween and The Devil's Rejects, and two terrible films in Halloween II and House of 1000 Corpses. It's safe to say that Zombie's films ain't for everyone, and that he's some sort of hit-and-miss director for some people, like me. Well, this is in my opinion his worst film. I thought it was terrible. Bloody awful.

This is not a horror film. It produces a story and images that could resemble a horror film, but the film is completely lacking atmosphere or anything to make whatever's happening on screen scary. It's just bunch of boring nothing. There's absolutely nothing in this film that does anything for me. Nothing to care for. The story is a mess, the acting is weak and it's just dull.

Worse is how it clearly attempts to produce offensive scenes that's trying to disgust me. It's so blatant obvious and meaningless that it doesn't work.

Sharkwater is at times very fascinating, particularly as I like sharks myself, and the underwater shots are beautifully photographed. It does also quite neatly manage to bring up an issue that one wouldn't normally think of in to the light.

But the problem with Sharkwater as a film experience lies in Rob Stewart using this film as some sort of ego-trip, seeing as he's almost always there with his face in front of the camera. His narration is often unnecessary and the details about his personal life could've been left out. I wanted more sharks and less Rob Stewart.

Evil Dead (2013)
@ Blu-ray

Some people are likely to dismiss this film just because it happens to be a remake of a very much loved horror film. Well, those people need to get their stick out of their ass. This 2013 update of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead might lack some of the comedy that the original had, but it makes up for that by delivering a true gorefest that pleased me highly.

Evil Dead is just bloody entertaining, suitably scary and very thrilling. It takes us on a roller-coaster ride of blood and gore, and shows us what horror films are really capable of once they decide to just don't give a fuck.

The Hunt (2012)
@ Blu-ray

The Hunt or Jagten as it's originally called in Denmark, is a damn good and more importantly, it's an important film that raises several difficult questions about some very strong and tough topics. This is a powerful film, emotional and effective film that's occasionally hard to watch due to its gripping and realistic tackle on the subject.

Mads Mikkelsen's performance is outstanding, and it's emotionally difficult to watch how the society unfairly treats him in this film. This is an uncomfortable film, and that's exactly why you should see it.

I guess that the best thing that can be said about this film is that it's never terrible. It's never bad, but it's not actually good either. It falls somewhere around the middle, but closer to bad than good. The main problem with it is that it feels exactly like any other possession/exorcism films out there. There's barely anything new in this film. It's all been done to death before.

It gets points for some neat visuals, particularly during the last half of the exorcism, but there's nothing remotely scary or suspenseful in this film. But hey, at least it wasn't a found-footage film.

Superbad is a genuinely funny film thanks to some hilarious characters. The setting and situations the characters find themselves in is nothing spectacular, but thanks to some great comedic timing and chemistry, the actors manages to create truly funny characters. Which is what makes Superbad a funny film.

Particularly every scene involving the two police officers were pure comedy gold. That's how you do crazy, unpredictable and well-timed comedy to perfection. The stand alone scenes with Jonah Hill and Michael Cera separately pales a bit when compared and ain't as great as the scenes when they're together. But this is funny.

The Dictator (2012)
@ DVD

The Dictator is too uneven for it to fully work. It's not that it doesn't have any great moments, because it surely does. But they are far too few and far between them. Only occasionally do we witness the amount of absurdity and craziness that made Borat a great film. Naturally, The Dictator doesn't feature any "real" situations, but it's still lacking a bit punch in its humour. Sometimes it succeeds, but mostly it doesn't.

I believe that some of the reason for its ultimate mediocrity lies in its focus on the love story in the film. It takes too much room and Anna Faris is a very annoying actress, who is also painfully unfunny.

Looper (2012)
Re-watched

@ Blu-ray

This might be lazy, but my opinion on Looper hasn't changed one bit. So I'll just copy what I've written on it previously.

"A brilliant, inventive piece of Sci-fi. Possibly the best film in that genre since Christopher Nolan's Inception. Looper is on of those rare, clever popcorn films that manages to combine a smart, thought provoking script with well-written characters and thrilling action. It is an emotional film, in the meaning that we don't really know which character we should cheer for. They are wonderfully created and played. Bruce Willis might have given his best performance in years. So, seeing as we don't know which of them we should root for, as we wish them all the best, the ending feels like a punch in the stomach. It's the perfect emotional ending for a film like this.

However, while Looper is fantastic, it's still not perfect. The second half of the film is more appealing, seeing as we get much closer on the characters then. There are also certain plot holes that pulls some of the attention (although, with a film like this, that might be impossible to avoid). But that Rian Johnson managed to balance everything that makes Looper so great, without it collapsing from its own weight, is completely masterful."

I'm feeling a bit harsh when rating this film. I didn't particularly like it, but I'm absolutely positive that I would have loved it when I was 8-10 years old. It has that sort of energy, pace and spectacle that would keep me into it for 80 minutes easily, and it's based on a toy I used to play with. But then I had to go ahead and grow up.

And seeing as I'm a young, but mature man, I see flaws everywhere. I'm out of the target group now, but I can still find annoying voice acting to be ruining, awkward morality and a story that is honestly rather dull. Not to mention slightly confusing. With all the funny names and such.

Frozen turned out to be a frustrating little film. Frustrating in the way that it does occasionally do some very clever choices when it comes to establishing terror and scenes with high emotional impact, only to then run along and show us something incredibly stupid.

It shows brilliance in the way that it manages to avoid showing us various gruesome scenes, but instead focus on the other characters during those scenes. Many directors would have gone for whatever produced the most gore, but here they've realized that experiencing something from the other characters is more emotionally affecting. There's particularly one scene that does this great.

And that's why it's a shame that Frozen ain't a better film. There are quite a few illogical and stupid things in it that can't be ignored, no matter how much I try to sustain my disbelief. Like none of them bringing a cell phone with them.

Despite me not being a fan of Will Ferrel, I did have some slight hopes that this film would actually be funny, considering how many people think it's great and with a sequel coming out this year. But no. This film just fall right into the "heh" category of comedies that are mainly unfunny, but with some chuckles in there to save it.

Mainly it just feels like a glorified cameo-party at times, without the necessary charm or spark to make those cameos work. Blah, this is mediocrity at its finest.

When you look at what the Coen brothers has dished up previously, one might look at True Grit and consider it to be their most straightforward film. But it's very good nonetheless. A great western.

The Coen's takes us on a great journey filled with some great character with equally great characterizations and universally excellent performances. The ultimate destination of this journey is a bit weak and somewhat anti-climatic, but I guess that sometimes, it's not about where you end up, but instead how you got there. I guess.

I love Tim Burton. Therefore, I feel obligated to say that I don't count this as a Tim Burton film. If you ask me, he never made it. And it doesn't really look and feel like a Tim Burton film. It looks like a film that any director could have helmed, and gotten pretty much the same, exact thing.

The only thing that is keeping me from giving this film a lower rating is its soundtrack and because no matter what I decide to think, Tim Burton's name is still on the poster. But this film is really a disaster in nearly every department. The acting, the dull action, the silly plot and a twist that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

21 Jump Street is just a lot of fun. There are too many action comedies being made these days that fails to amuse or entertain me, so I've almost stopped seeking out films in that genre. But this is the kind of film that gives me hope for that genre again. Because it does exactly what its supposed to do. It entertains!

Fuelled by some great chemistry between its two leads, this film manages to provide an extremely high amount of dumb humour in a quite clever wrapping. The result is a non-stop thrill-ride for whatever muscles that has you laughing. The action scenes alone may not stick out as much as hoped, but the comedy in this film is gold.

A Norwegian conspiracy-thriller that's inspired by actual events. How much of it is true or not, I'm not going to bother speculating in. But I do know that I found this film to be quite fascinating and exciting. It's certainly one of the better Norwegian films in recent years.

It features some really impressive looking underwater scenes, that's equally amazing visually as they're thrilling. The performances are excellent, and the plot manages to avoid falling into the many typical conspiracy clichés you find in American films. Very exciting.

Snow White and the Huntsman is just a mediocre film wrapped into some amazing visuals with a gorgeous young lady at the front.

But the film is just not fun to watch. It might be dark and serious, but I'm not really enjoying myself. The pacing is off and the characters are many, yet unmemorable.

Remember not being particularly fond of it when I was younger, and after revisiting it now, I can still safely say that I do not like this film. There's just nothing in it that sticks out. It's Disney at their most forgettable.

The animations is up to high Disney standard, of course, but everything else is just dull. Boring heroes and villains who appears as nothing else but lesser versions of better Disney villains from other films. Put those thing in a plot that I really don't care for and some sleep-inducing , and you've got yourself a disaster.

This was naturally far more entertaining when I saw it at my local cinema. There are action scenes in this film that are very impressive. Michael Bay knows how to orchestrate his explosions and spectacle. So it does have some entertaining segments.

But Michael Bay is not as good when it comes to basically everything else. Plot, characters, humor. None of those things come off as being even decent, and that's why Transformers: Dark of the Moon falls straight into oblivion after turning it off.

The last time I saw it was when I was a very young child, and after revisiting it now, I think I can say that this is among the best animated films Disney has created. It's certainly among the cutest. (Ariel is among the cutest animated characters I've seen.) But anyways, out of all the prince and princesses love stories that Disney has produced over so many years, I guess this is one of those who's likely to stick with me more. Probably because of the naivity in the story, after all, ain't love a little bit naive?

And everything else is basically Disney at its finest. The colorful, hand-drawn animation is naturally superb and the musical sequences are enjoyable. Usually I find at least one song to dislike in these films, but now I can't think of one. I really enjoyed this film.

The Tall Man (2012)
@ Blu-ray

A little part of me was hoping that this film would be based on the Internet meme about Slender Man, but deep inside I realized that that was not going to be the case. So, let's hope someone make a real film about that some day. Anyways, The Tall Man has some intriguing things about, particularly during the first half, when the atmosphere is quite good and rather unsettling. But then The Tall Man suddenly turns into a completely different film.

Of course, the twist and turns the film ends up producing during the last half is unpredictable, but they doesn't necessarily work. Becaue they're not in nature with the rest of the film. It does almost suddenly turn into heavy drama that raises several ethical questions. But the problem is also that the film drags it ending out, causing it to feel more and more ridiculous for each added frame.

If your stomach can't handle over-the-top violence, this film is not for you. If you want realism or morality, or are easily offended, this film is not for you. Do you, on the other hand, get some sort of sick enjoyment from watching heads being blown off or children being incarnated, this film is for you.

Hopefully, Zack Snyder didn't base his casting on Ben Affleck as the next Batman on this film, but more on his performances in Argo or The Town. For Daredevil is a ridiculous film that's a prime example of a tonal crash.

It does in a few scenes try to be dark and moody, but that doesn't work when the rest of the scenes are campy, over-the-top and just plain right cheesy. So what we have here is simply a disaster of a superhero film. Which also feels more like a youtube music video at times.

This film is awful in every way, and as a horror film, it fails miserably. It's never scary. There's no suspense. The second of J.J. Abrams Star Trek films is a major improvement over the first film, who didn't to do much for me, because of one simple thing. It's antagonist. The first film featured a totally unmemorable villain, and in films like this, you got to have the heroes going up against a really threatening villain for the film to be able to completely work. That's why Star Trek is only decent entertainment, while Star Trek Into Darkness is good entertainment. Benedict Cumberbatch is an awesome villain.

Besides that, everything is basically what you would expect from a J.J. Abrams film. It's exceptionally well-crafted with spectacular specials effects and a solid plot. I can definitely see him doing Star Wars.

It took me 20 years to see this supposed classic. After seeing it, I guess it wouldn't have hurt to wait a bit longer. Because this is quite mediocre, at least for someone like me, who's not the biggest fan of this genre. I guess I can see the appeal for some people. Particularly those of the female kind. Patrick Swayze is quite handsome, and has a solid amount of muscles in this film. I saw it with my girlfriend and a friend of hers, and they kept on moaning whenever he did something.

Iron Man 3 would have been an even better film if they renamed it to Tony Stark or something, and cut out most of the action featuring Iron Man. Certainly, the action scenes are spectacular and entertaining, but the final showdown is almost just an endless affair of empty suits fighting. That drags Iron Man 3 from being a perfect film, down to simply excellent blockbuster. Which is not bad in any way, though.

But the real strength of Iron Man 3 lies in its exploration of Tony Stark as a character, and it's actually the action sequences when he's out of the suit that's the most engaging ones. Simply because they feel more threatening. And when it comes to threats, upon my first viewing, I wasn't too fond of The Mandarin twist. I believed that reducing him to a joke and let Guy Pearce be the main villain was a poor decision, as Pearce simply wasn't memorable. I do know however salute Marvel with a very brave decision, that works more on a comedic and fun level than on a serious one. Which is basically what the Marvel Universe should be.

The final outing in the Norwegian Elling trilogy is a solid film that's marginally better than Mor's Elling, but miles away from as good as Elling. The humour and chemistry between the film's two leads are its greatest strength.

My problem with it is that it did occasionally get and feel more awkward than what was really necessary for it to be funny, and that the ending seems to come out of nowhere.

Yep, that's how I felt too. The film earned a higher rating for me thanks largely to the visuals and the fact that it was a different idea. Plus I occasionally enjoyed moments. But overall the execution left much to be desired.

Agreed also on Anchorman which we're in the minority on not appreciating evidently.
