My reasons for viewing:
* true story
* heard great comments
* Ewan McGregor
Date of viewing: 09.01.2013.
My observations after watching: After several years of regular going to the cinema finally an excellent start in "movie" year on the big screen.. I was expecting a lot from this movie, starting with the fact that it was filmed according to true story, I knew there is a strong possibility that I will cry, and besides, I'm a big fan of Ewan McGregor.. I expected a lot and luckily my expectations were fulfilled.. I've cried almost during the whole movie.. The fact that the movie was made by a true story....what can I say, this definitely is not a movie that you can watch casually, enjoying the popcorn.. As far as the effects, scenes of the tragedy, precisely the arrival of the wave, the sound effects were great, the feeling was as if we spectators are under water also.. Acting? Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts long before this movie proved their talent, but I was particularly impressed with Tom Holland, Samuel Joslin and Oaklee Pendergast.. They are the heart of this movie, they acted so convincingly that you simply can't remain indifferent to their scenes.. Found a place on the list of my favorite movies..
My reasons for viewing:
* classic novel I liked
* assembled cast
* musical element
Date of viewing: 30.01.2013.
My observations after watching: This was one of those classic novels that I, regardless of the length and weight of the theme, liked on first reading.. So it was natural choice to take a look of this adaptation, especially with such a great cast.. I love musicals and from that side it was not difficult to follow the story, but I admit that I didn't expect so much singing, at least 95 percent of the movie is purely singing.. And one more thing, the Croatian translation of the movie was really desperate.. Frankly, that spoiled my experience.. Now a few words about the actors.. Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman are one of my favorite actors ever and they did brilliant work here, they are really convincing and I imagined their characters in the book just like this.. But their singing at times was really weak, and thus a bit ridiculous.. Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter, two cool characters, refreshments in this difficult story.. I was pleasantly surprised by Eddie Redmayne (I know he's a great young actor, but was pleasantly surprised by his singing), Daniel Huttlestone (pleasant discovery, the strong performance) and Samantha Barks, who has, personally, my fav role.. What to say about Anne Hathaway? I believe that many would not agree with me, but I think that she went even too far with her acting.. Her character not only was "miserable", but also pathetic.. I was most impressed by the scenery and by several songs, particularly "revolutionary" one and the one which sings young Cosette.. This song if my fav part of the movie, she pulled emotions from me best of all, I have goose bumps when I watched this scene of her..
My reasons for viewing:
* subject
* Jessica Chastain
* large amount of action (I hope)
Date of viewing: 06.02.2013.
My observations after watching: Before going to the cinema I heard enough various opinions about this movie.. To some it was great, unsurpassed even, while for others was weak and controversial.. Truth be told, the movie is a bit too long, but given the length of the period that had to cover it should not be used for major drawback.. Part from the beginning of the "action canaries" and the action itself was the best part of the movie.. I must say that on this issue (excitement and tension) it fulfilled my expectations.. But in general terms, I think that I'm slightly disappointed by the lack of drama.. As I expected, Jessica Chastain is phenomenal in this role, just like in her previous moviess, and the only really strong scenes before the described action is one in which she is mad at his boss.. In the end, I have to add that the scene at the very end of the movie, with her tears in plane, somewhat brings out always present question: whether it was Osama bin Laden or not.. To me personally, Zero Dark Thirty is better than The Hurt Locker, slightly but it is..
My reasons for viewing:
* story
* Tim Burton
* I'm a cartoon freak
Date of viewing: 20.02.2013.
My observations after watching: I love Tim Burton's work, I heard a great comment on this latest animated project, and all in all I was not left disappointed.. Great animation is there, the known Burton's atmosphere also, subtle humor, interesting characters.. Solid 6/10.. I thought that, given the topic and my weakness for animals (really rarely watch movies about them, as almost always cry a sea of tears) some parts could be more emotional.. Let's say, I felt a little void on this issue.. But for a child I think there is just enough of everything - sad parts, cheerful parts, horror elements..
My reasons for viewing:
* classic novel I liked
* assembled cast
* set design, costume design
Date of viewing: 06.03.2013.
My observations after watching: Joe Wright has created some of my favorite movies (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement) and with Keira Knightley he is already coordinated team.. Keira is one of my favorite actresses in this profile of movies.. If we add to all this that Anna Karenina is one of my favorite classics I waited impatiently for watching this in the cinema.. Many people complains about the format of the movie, an experience like you're in a theater and you watch a show, but for me personally it is a cool element.. I'm always for "something new", for implementation of new ideas.. As far as actors, another nice role of Keira but Jude Law was for the class better than others, he is just phenomenal.. Unlike him, the choice of Aaron Johnson seems to me quite risky.. On the side his acting, he is just not the type of person I was imagining for this role as I was reading the book.. Now we come to the part that makes me most "controversial".. And that is - this adaptation didn't show exactly the point which Tolstoy created in his classic.. And because of that, no matter what opinion you have about Anna because of her choice, reading the book at the end emotions finally hit you.. Here, precisely because the characters were not correctly presented, it lacks, at least in my opinion..
My reasons for viewing:
* this particular fairy tale
* Ewan McGregor
* effects, set design
Date of viewing: 27.03.2013.
My observations after watching: I must admit that as a child I hadn't a lot of contact with this children's fairy tales and this was one more reason to choose to watch this movie.. One of the reasons was certainly Ewan McGregor, one of my favorite actors who thrills me exactly because he can play in absolutely every genre.. I was very interested how he handled this role and I must say he was very convincing, totally into his role.. Several times I had a good laugh on his character and I admit, no matter what, his character is the nicest one.. I'm not disappointed in terms of the third reason, as well - the visual effects and scenery.. I'm especially impressed by the land of Giants, everything above the clouds is just like a fairy tale and the Giants are made great also.. Perhaps I expected a little more humor, or to be more precise, there were more material to add an occasional joke.. This movie have sufficient action, especially at the end.. As movie developed, somewhere in time of their return to the Earth, I thought that this is the end and that will be a second movie, but then all that actions in the finish made this movie solidly intense and I liked it.. Somehow I expected more from the main characters around which the whole story is.. I think it lacked chemistry and credibility among them.. In this field I felt a great emptiness and therefore rating is 7/10..
My reasons for viewing:
* OZ story
* assembled cast
* effects, set design
Date of viewing: 27.03.2013.
My observations after watching: Oz the Great and Powerful, I watched the same day as Jack the Giant Slayer and how they are the same genre it worked out well that I watched this movie the second.. I liked it more overall.. More humor, more "small" characters of which I wasn't expecting a lot, and they were superb.. Even the visual effects and all that goes with fantasy movies is better and more engrossing.. But before all I must say, I didn't read any other book except the Wizard of Oz so I can't compare how the movie stayed true to the book.. The movie is fun, has a great cast, and as it's surprises cames Finley and China Girl.. They were for me, as far as humor and sweetness, the best part of the movie.. Of the main actors somehow the most prominent, the most space to meet her character received Mila Kunis.. Have to say that I expected more from her interpretation of the transformation from good to bad witch.. I don't know, something is missing, although I must admit that I'm not disappointed with her performance as many others.. I love Rachel Weisz, but I think her role was not given sufficient opportunity, in the script they didn't go in depth with Evanora.. James Franco also was not bad but was nothing special and I still don't see all that his talent everyone keeps talking about.. When it comes to Michelle Williams I know this is more subjective than anything else, but it is very difficult to watch her movies to me.. Since Dawson's Creek I dislike her, although here she well performed her role of monotonous "good girl".. When the first impressions settles a little I think I'll look Oz again..
My reasons for viewing:
* Love movies like these
* I'm interested in the story
* Bruce Willis
Date of viewing: 17.04.2013.
My observations after watching: First of all one note. I believe many will roll their eyes because of the rate I gave to this movie, but I'll repeat once again. I just can't help myself, movies like this are my guilty pleasures.. Besides, I like Bruce Willis in roles like this, in movies like this.. Movies that certainly will not be nominated for some award, a movies whose main goal is fun and relaxation of viewers, without much thinking and a certain amount of adrenaline.. As in Die Hard, here is noticeable his specific sense of humor, scenes with him are definitely my favorite and when it comes to comparison of predecessor and this movie I can't this is weaker or I'm disappointed.. Has plenty of action, I even can say a smart action, turn point around some of the characters gives to the movie an extra dose of entertainment.. If you love these type of movies, go ahead..
My reasons for viewing:
* Gerard Butler
* A large amount of action
* Story, terrorist theme
Date of viewing: 17.04.2013.
My observations after watching: Lots and lots of action, adrenaline, excitement, anticipation and Gerard Butler.. Yes, the end is predictable as you might expect, but the storyline, the way to reach the predictable end deserves a high enough rate.. Movie I will certainly buy for my home collection, and it is certain that I'll take another look in the near future.. I think that the roles like these are perfect for Butler.. It's hard not to extract him in first row when we speaks about actors, but I must add that Aaron Eckhart in the role of President of the United States, Morgan Freeman but also Melissa Leo as Secretary of Defense Ruth McMillan were also excellent.. Additional plus to this movie is that that I love theme like this, hijacking and terrorism issues so there was a really small chance to be disappointed.. True, there are a few scenes where you wonder to whome the failure occurred (in the sense that these scenes could be sort of smarter), but overall the movie which is worth a chance even if you will not give such a high rate like I did..
My reasons for viewing:
* Robert Downey Jr.
* Superheroe factor
* Story I love
Date of viewing: 01.05.2013.
My observations after watching:This one blow my mind! I really don't know where to start, movie that I liked from the first to the last scene.. Even better than first and second, somehow darker and more complex, yet intelligently done.. About Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Tony Stark don't need to write anything special, everything is already known - it's just perfect! Ben Kingsley was also great, especially when his role shown "his real face", that was superbly.. Also, Guy Pearce has once again played role of sleazy villain, but apparently such roles suits him.. Effects are excellent, excellent storyline, great music, of course great humor, a movie you really must look.. Just a little warning: all who have not watched The Avengers please first look that movie.. This third part of Iron Man continues on that story, not on predecessor, and many things will not be clear, and it will ruin the overall impression.. Found a place on the list of my favorite movies and yeah I want to take another look as soon as possible..
