What a great list! There should be more of these on here!

Finally, a list appreciating the fuller, more voluptuous models/actresses! I thought no one would get around to making one before me -- leave it to SA to come through! Hope you add more soon.

I am! Thanks for all your great feedback. Part of my delay is that a few of the "plus size models" listed in wikipedia are really thin compared to the women above. They are too big for "print fashion" yet not really plus size. The industry really needs to get out of the 1980's and stop such rigid so called standards.

I really love your list! They are all in their "happy" weight and that really shows - nothing is sexier.

Much much more womanly ladies ... definitely better than the boys you normally see doing high fashion!

???? That's not funny!

How about Tara Lynn?

Have you seen Crystal Renn lately? That girl has slimmed down a lot. I don't know if she still qualifies as a plus size model. Well, not that there's anything wrong with it. I always hate it when people judge other people based on their appearance/looks and body weight. Let it be fat or thin, size-0 or size-plus, we should all see people based on their talents and ability, and in this case, since Crystal and all the other girls you listed here are models, their ability to model. I still think Crystal Renn is beautiful no matter what size/shape she is.

Here are some new pictures/photo-shoots of her, taken from models.com :

Well, as you can see, despite the obvious weight loss, Crystal still looks healthy. She's not a stick-thin figure, that's for sure (and thank God for it too). But she sure does look slimmer than what she initially looked like in her early modeling days. And like I said, NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. If she really is undergoing a diet to lose some weight, as long as she does it healthily and happily, then by all means, I encourage her for it. Her body size and weight doesn't change the fact that she's a good model (as you can see in models.com, as of Jan 7, 2011, she ranks #21 in Top 50 Models).

On the other hand, I never like Whitney Thompson and it has nothing to do with her body size/shape but rather her personality and the fact that IMHO she can't really model. She's probably good for 1 or 2 commercial modeling stuff but I can't see her do any SERIOUS high-fashion stuff and go anywhere like Crystal Renn. To me, Whitney is kinda snobbish and she thinks just because she's a plus size model, she's better than any other models out there (well, that's the attitude she displays in America's Next Top Model - as oppose to Toccara Jones who is a sweet lovely girl). And when she (tries to) model, it looks fake and forced. Why does she always open her mouth when someone takes pictures of her? Does she think that's really high-fashion???? She could take some pointers from Crystal Renn to study about what REAL modeling is like.

Rocket: Hi, those photos of Renn are heavily retouched-YOWZA! Many are really unflattering because of the digalsiztion and the heavy brows. Its as if they are saying "F*** you public, now she's starving again!" Very sad.
In some pics they've shaved her waist and hips away so obviously that those are not even real viable examples of a person, no offence to you of course. The mags just go to far into fake.
And yes. Actually Crystal Renn is still considered plus size by industry standards, unbelievable as that is!! Anything over 120/125 pounds at her height is plus size. Cindy Crawford got away with being 130 but only because she was always starving, working out and posing topless, in a thong being a brand jockey etc. They over inflated her bust size (Crawford is a 34B) so she was able to ride the 80's supermodel train which, let's face it, was all about how padded and/or enhanced their boobs were. 130 with big frame and bones like Crawford has is VERY slim. Renn with her smaller bone size and frame is most likely 140 now which is healthy.

Well whatever. I'm not a photo expert so I may have missed some facts of whether a photo is photoshopped or not. My point is: we should all judge people based on their talents/ability, NOT just their physique.

Sometimes I feel that people and the media are being too harsh on celebrities and models, esp regarding their body and physique, sometimes calling them too fat or too skinny. Many models I feel have been unjustly accused of anorexia when in reality it's probably just the way their body is naturally built. I mean, I agree there are a lot of anorexia cases and it all stems mainly from the fashion/modeling/movie industry, but we all should remember that there ARE also models who are naturally skinny no matter how much they eat. It doesn't necessarily have to be unhealthy. It's just how they are built. Besides, I think we should focus more on their talents/ability as models. Take Kate Moss as example. Have to admit, I don't like her and she may be a bad mother, but I personally think she truly is a GREAT model. Just like Crystal Renn. She can balloon to a size 24 but I still think she's a good fashion model. Does the fact that she slimmed down and have most of her pics photoshopped appear to be "misleading" to the people because they're supposedly the reasons why she has more modeling jobs lately? Maybe, and I personally don't want to answer it. Let it be open in the air. I'm just gonna leave it to the forum and the fashion industry. But the point is, both Kate Moss and Crystal Renn are good models, and their body size/shape ain't gonna change that.

Like I said on my previous post, I never like judging someone on their physical appearance alone. I usually look on their package as a WHOLE with more emphasis on their talents and ability. Some of the best/most regarded actresses of all time such as Meryl Streep, Ellen Burstyn, Vanessa Redgrave, Jodie Foster, Katharine Hepburn etc don't/didn't have the standard ideally accepted Hollywood beauty/body, but who on their sane minds would deny their talents? I mean, Meryl Streep's looks is not the reason why she is the actress with the most Academy Award nominations.

And what about opera? In today's world of pop culture where people nowadays tend to put more emphasis on looks rather than talents, it also takes its toll in opera as well. Many great singers of todays era are either replaced with attractive-looking-but-less-talented opera singers or being forced to slim down/enhance their appearance. But like most people know, "it ain't over til the fat lady sings" - people know that in opera, large sounds usually come in large packages, such as Joan Sutherland, Birgit Nilsson, Leontyne Price, Montserrat Caballe, pre-slimmed down Maria Callas etc, if you know what I mean. This doesn't mean that skinny/slender opera singers may not have the same amount of talents like their larger-bodied counterparts. God gives talents to big and skinny people as well. Natalie Dessay, Sumi Jo, Lily Pons, Anna Netrebko, Renee Fleming (she's not what I would call "skinny", but she's not morbidly obese as well) etc are some examples of great small-bodied opera singers who are deeply admired/respected by the opera world. All I'm trying to say is that we should all look beyond their physique and emphasize more on their TALENTS.

Btw I also share my thoughts about this issue in your other list "The Body to Play Wonder Woman" - in case you haven't read it. It's nice that you think about healthy-looking women such as Kelly Brook or Lara Stone for Diana Prince's role. I love Kelly Brook, I think she has an amazing body. But before we go any further, we should ask if she can live the role on-screen? Just because she has the right look, doesn't mean that she has the right talents/skills to convincingly portray the role in front of the camera.

a big WIN for this list - thumbs up!

I know I'm not the only one who isn't influenced by how skinny and tall the model is to if I'll buy what she's wearing or not. I am not a size zero therefore I know the clothes won't look the same on me. I don't pay attention to big names or how thin the model is. If I see something I like I try it on and see how it looks on me. That's it. If I had a clothing line, Everyone would model my clothes! Because everyone is the world not just emaciated bony waifs. I like tall, average and short. I like skinny athletic and curvy. Fashion is fun, creative and energetic. Rawrrr XD
