Best movies of 1986

People often claim that this film is an improvement over Alien, but I don't believe that's necessarily true. Even though they're part of the same series, Alien is a horror film, while Aliens is a sci-fi/action-adventure film. They're different animals, both equally great representations of their respective genres.

When I first saw Aliens at home in late '86, it was my introduction to the series and so I tend to prefer it to its predecessor. One of the best things about the film is it stands on its own...you don't have to see the first to enjoy it. And everything about it is perfect. Plus, it became the definitive film for action/sci-fi films from '86 on.
