People who added this item 42  Average listal rating (21 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 5.9
100. Baghead (2008)

#100

A weaker effort from the Duplass brothers but entertaining and the ending makes up for the slow pace of the rest of the movie
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1317  Average listal rating (813 ratings) 5.7  IMDB Rating 6.1
99. What Happens in Vegas (2008)
Is usually more than this movie, but I admit it was funnier than I expected
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2  Average listal rating (2 ratings) 7  IMDB Rating 7.6
98. Mary Pickford: The Muse of the Movies (2008)
A doc on America's Sweetheart and how her career coincided with the rise of Hollywood. Rather interesting.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 178  Average listal rating (105 ratings) 7.7  IMDB Rating 7.8
97. Encounters at the End of the World (2007)
Beautiful to watch but too much of Herzog's voice.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 664  Average listal rating (411 ratings) 5.7  IMDB Rating 6.5
96. How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008)
Noted.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 22  Average listal rating (7 ratings) 7.3  IMDB Rating 7.5
95. Trumbo (2007)
An impressive array of personalities give their take on Dalton.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 6  Average listal rating (4 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 6.9
94. The Beautiful Truth (2008)
A very strange yet inspiring documentary about saving your life...
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 770  Average listal rating (531 ratings) 6.8  IMDB Rating 7.3
93. The Bank Job (2008)
With Statham in a heist movie I was expecting Guy Richie action and editing and dialogue, instead it was a bit boring on most accounts.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1343  Average listal rating (830 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating
92. Bolt (2008)
Travolta knows how to play puppy dog, apparently
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 350  Average listal rating (200 ratings) 5.1  IMDB Rating 5.7
91. What Just Happened (2008)
What the hell just happened to De Niro's career?

Bruce Willis makes a pretty funny cameo as himself.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1839  Average listal rating (1046 ratings) 7.5  IMDB Rating 7.7
90. Milk (2008)
There is very little dairy involved and a lot of man love.

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 154  Average listal rating (108 ratings) 6.1  IMDB Rating 6.1
89. Swing Vote (2008)
Costner is still likable
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1538  Average listal rating (964 ratings) 6.1  IMDB Rating 6.5
88. Get Smart (2008)
You can start by not watching this.

The dance scene is pretty funny among a few other moments.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 669  Average listal rating (436 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 6.7
87. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)
Most scenes wanted to be funny like the first film but most failed to do so. Still, the characters are funny and of course you can't lose with Neil Patrick Harris.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 327  Average listal rating (177 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 6.7
86. Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
So silly and obnoxious it's entertaining. The music isn't horrible but it's just so wrong.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1417  Average listal rating (855 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.7
85. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)
An Alec Baldwin lion saves this less-than-stellar sequel
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 366  Average listal rating (233 ratings) 7.2  IMDB Rating 7.9
84. Food, Inc. (2008)
Possibly the best and scariest documentary on food yet.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 75  Average listal rating (34 ratings) 7.8  IMDB Rating 7.3
83. Shotgun Stories (2007)
Each scene becomes more painful than the previous. The scenes are very flat and dry... but a solid performance from Shannon and basically balsy attitude the director and editor had with such scenes made it likable.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 125  Average listal rating (62 ratings) 7.2  IMDB Rating 7.4
82. Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired (2008)
An interesting look at the controversial and prolific filmmmaker.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 41  Average listal rating (19 ratings) 7  IMDB Rating 7.1
81. Beautiful Losers (2008)
I documentary about the 90s New York art scene, by the underground movement not the snobs
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 130  Average listal rating (52 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating
80. The Lucky Ones (2008)
An unusual road trip movie with some natural dialogue in forced situations.

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1688  Average listal rating (986 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.6
79. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
Visually just as great as the first; but it has lost a lot of the adventure and charm from the first.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1651  Average listal rating (1075 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 7.1
78. Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Visually as appealing as the first, but not as interesting of a story.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 45  Average listal rating (29 ratings) 7.7  IMDB Rating 7.9
77. Young @ Heart (Young at Heart) (2007)
The elderly getting hip, singing rock songs. There are some lovely and effecting moments but it is made by mediocre documentarians.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2145  Average listal rating (1382 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 6.9
76. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Ed Norton makes this portrayal realistic but Tim Robbins ruins it from greatness, along with the miss of a solid ending
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 98  Average listal rating (41 ratings) 7.9  IMDB Rating 7.7
75. My Winnipeg (2007)
More experimental weirdness from Madden
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1001  Average listal rating (613 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.4
74. Funny Games (2007)

People who added this item 525  Average listal rating (325 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating
73. Happy-Go-Lucky (2008)
Clearly Poppy is happy-go-lucky
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 17  Average listal rating (13 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 7.3
72. The Hammer (2007)
I was actually an extra in this unconventionally funny story of a semi-pro boxer; but I'm not what makes it good it's the unconventional humor that does and an honest performance from Corolla.

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 511  Average listal rating (324 ratings) 5.8  IMDB Rating 6.1
71. Baby Mama (2008)
These ladies are a funny pair, I'm sure we'll see more of them in the upcoming years.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 168  Average listal rating (78 ratings) 7.3  IMDB Rating 7.8
70. Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Th... (2008)
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 184  Average listal rating (103 ratings) 6.8  IMDB Rating 7.2
69. Shine a Light (2008)
A much less-successful concert movie than Scorsese's "The Last Waltz"
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 453  Average listal rating (315 ratings) 5  IMDB Rating 5.8
68. Semi-Pro (2008)
A pretty messy film but worth a second viewing because of how funny Ferrell is no matter what the film is.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 421  Average listal rating (227 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.5
67. Choke (2008)

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2337  Average listal rating (1548 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.7
66. Wanted (2008)
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 242  Average listal rating (127 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 6.8
65. Elegy (2008)
Cruz is stunning as usual, and shows quite a bit of skin. Almost so much that it distracts me from the so-so story.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 750  Average listal rating (417 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.7
64. Rachel Getting Married (2008)
Hathaway shows she's not just a Disney Princess
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 628  Average listal rating (398 ratings) 6.9  IMDB Rating 7.2
63. Defiance (2008)
Beautifully filmed depressing violent movie
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2  Average listal rating (1 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 5.9
62. Morning Light (2008)
A documentary about young sailors. Really made me crave the open sea and get on a boat myself... so actually it was just as frustrating.

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 720  Average listal rating (419 ratings) 6.8  IMDB Rating
61. Charlie Bartlett (2007)
Possibly a star-making role for Yelchin. He is pretty solid in this clever but non entirely original movie.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 133  Average listal rating (77 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.8
60. Battle in Seattle (2007)
A great cast in a movie with potential but tries to hard to get out a message without giving us characters we care about.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 66  Average listal rating (42 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating 6.2
59. Visioneers (2008)
A very very strange and somewhat funny movie.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 207  Average listal rating (131 ratings) 6.7  IMDB Rating 7.2
58. Frozen River (2008)
Melissa Leo invests so much in this role, it's truly depressing in a cold, beautiful way.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 197  Average listal rating (108 ratings) 6  IMDB Rating
57. Miracle at St. Anna (2008)
As usual Lee's racial intentions are a bit didactic; but I love a good war film and this one certainly was a different type of one.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2937  Average listal rating (1853 ratings) 5.9  IMDB Rating 6.3
56. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal... (2008)
Without a doubt the weakest edition of the saga; but nonetheless an entertaining jaunt through Jones's archeological and nostalgic world.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 1071  Average listal rating (657 ratings) 6.6  IMDB Rating 6.9
55. Horton Hears a Who! (2008)
Carrey and Carell lose their wonderful facial/physical comedy and try out their voices in a decent rendition of a Seuss classic.

Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 2623  Average listal rating (1708 ratings) 5.9  IMDB Rating 6.5
54. Hancock (2008)
I feel like they didn't make this as awesome as they could have because they were setting it up for a sequel; too bad one won't be made.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 968  Average listal rating (646 ratings) 6.3  IMDB Rating 6.6
53. Eagle Eye (2008)
Shiah running around a lot, again; but this time without five-story robots
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 24  Average listal rating (12 ratings) 7.6  IMDB Rating 7.3
52. Surfwise (2007)
A crazy documentary about a one-of-a-kind family.
Stehako's rating:

People who added this item 326  Average listal rating (199 ratings) 6.4  IMDB Rating 6.7
51. Transsiberian (2008)
While this film is frustrating throughout it has some twists and turns that made it entertaining as a whole.
Stehako's rating:

In the opinion of Stephen H Koontz

One of the weakest years of the decade; but the top 10 is still a solid group.

Really good job.

I don't even know why we even need a top 100 for a single year (there aren't even that many years that have as many as 30 films that are, at the very least, pretty good). But since you tried, guess I might as well see your work:

100.Maybe.
99.No. Anna Faris as a sex symbol in a Happy Madison Production? Automatic horror!
98.No. John Hughes' career ended at the start of the 1990's.
97.Yes, and higher.
96.No.
95.NO!
94.No.
93.No. There aren't that many interesting documentaries out there.
92.Yes, and higher, and with reluctance.
91.No. Sean Penn in leftwing PCism. Feh!
90.A 2007 movie, and thus, no.
89.Surprisingly yes.
88.For 2008 standards, I'm gonna go with a squeaker-in.
87.No. PC in the guise of Documentary filmmaking.
86-83.Yes.
82.No. Delinquent behavior with a PC stance? Automatic Horror!
81.No.
80.Another squeaker-in by 2008 standards (not a huge admirer of Roman Polanski).
79.Yes, and much higher--top 20, in fact.
78.Yes, and much higher--top 20, in fact.
77.No.
76.No.
75.Yes, and higher.
74.Yes, and much higher--top 20, in fact.
73.No!
72.Yes, and should be top 10.
71.Borderline.
70.Ehh...no. These sorts of films are not comedies.
69.No. Not a fan of his work.
68.Yes.
67.A squeaker-in. Not a big fan of Will Ferrell.
66.Borderline.
65.Yes, and in the top 30 at least.
64.Yes.
63.Yes.
62.No.
61.No. Bridezillas generally aren't good movies, and Jonathan Demme's career hasn't been the same since Silence of the Lambs.
60.Within the confines of 2008, yes, but lower.
59.Yes.
58.Borderline.
57.No.
56.Even more PCism about illegal immigration. No!
55.Borderline.
54.No!
53.Yes.
52.Yes with some reluctance, and much lower (it's one of the most miserable Will Smith roles I've ever seen).
51.Yes, and worthy of the top 20.

More to come in the next comment.

Continuing on:

50.Within the confines of 2008, yes, but much lower.
49.No! Spike Lee is, if anything, moral cinematic poison!
48.Yes, with some reluctance, and only for the four Oscar nominated performances.
47.Yes.
46.Among the nominated animated features, the best. Yes.
45-44.Given both films are 2007, no.
43.Yes.
42.Yes, and top 30 at least--possibly top 20.
41.Yes.
40.Yes.
39-37.No.
36.Yes, but lower.
35.Yes, and top 10 worthy.
34.Yes, but possibly lower.
33.Yes, and should be top 20.
32.No. After Jay & Bob, Kevin Smith's career hasn't been the same.
31.Yes, and right about here.
30.A suburban soap opera, but within the confines of 2008, yes with reluctance, but much lower.
29.Yes, but lower, and certainly not higher than Gran Torino.
28.Borderline. Not really into chick flicks.
27.Yes on respectability alone, which is a rare curse for contemporary documentaries.
26.No.
25.Yes, but higher.
24.Yes, but lower (possibly as high as top 50).
23.Yes.
22.Yes, but much lower (modern day low brow humor just isn't that funny unless you go all the way, like with John Waters).
21.Yes, but maybe a little higher.
20.No, no, no, NO!
19.Borderline, and much lower.
18.This one was just...weird. By 2008 standards, it's a squeaker-in at best.
17.Yes, and should be top 5.
16.No.
15.Yet another suburbian soap opera. Yes with great reluctance, and much lower.
14.Yes, but lower.
13.By 2008 standards, yes, but much lower.
12.See numbers 15-13 above.
11.No.
10.Perhaps the only good Best Picture nominee of the bunch. Yes, but lower--near the crusp for top 30.
9. Yes, but lower--top 30ish if anything.
8. ARE YOU INSANE!?
7. Again, are you insane!?
6. I haven't seen this one yet, but I can't see it ranking in the top 10--predictably, it might turn up in the top 20 or 30.
5. One of my least favorite Coen brothers, but I still found somewhat enjoyable. Top 20 worthy, maybe just barely making the cut for top 10.
4. I don't hate you for finding this movie rather funny, but if anything, it's rather depressing when one thinks about it. Possible consideration, but not very likely (99 or 100 being the most likely spots the film could turn up in my list).
3. Yes! Top 3 for sure!
2. A little odd that you rated this film this high, yet have plenty of critical things to say about it that would, if anything, rank it much lower on my list. Borderline as a decent film, which, by 2008 standards, is a yes, but much lower.
1. Yes, without question!

A question involving your choices: Where's The Hurt Locker? Waltz with Bashir--by far the best animated of the year? Or a much lesser extent (since this is top 100), Forbbidden Kingdom? The Incredible Hulk? Journey to the Center of the Earth? The Rocker? Bangkok Dangerous? Leatherheads? The Duchess? The socially ironic Lakeview Terrace? Or--much as I found it a disappointment--An American Carol? City of Ember? Spiderwick Chronicles? Quarantine? The surprisingly well-made W (and this coming from a guy who absolutely hates Oliver Stone)? Pride and Glory? The Tale of Despereaux? The Spirit (yes, I'm recommending this one)? Valkarye? Many of the no films on your list are better suited for ANY of the recommended films I just listed.

It just goes to show just why top 100 on a yearly basis don't work. Maybe in a decade, but a year?

Thank you for the longest comment I've ever received on a list. The movies you are questioning as to why they are not on list:
They were not released in 2008 (in my country) or I have not yet watched them.
Oh, and several of them just look bad.
AND some of them are on the list.

Finally, for me, it works. I appreciate votes but these lists are just as much about me organizing what movies I see from each year and how I rank them.
When every year sees more than 500 movies released domestically it's not an unreasonable thing to list a favorite 100.
