Best Films of 2007
11 6 7.3100. TV Junkie (2006)
What starts out as a unique telling of a man's life through the video has shot turns into a depressing but effective dive into the destructive world of drug use while providing for a family.
Rick Kirkham's ego is a little much but it's also fitting.
174 6 6.399. Youth Without Youth (2007)
Tim Roth wasn't too annoying in this beautifully shot and strange story written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola
127 6.7 7.398. The 11th Hour (2007)
Much better than "An Inconvenient Truth" in the fact that it doesn't insult your intelligence and it inspires the audience to do better for Earth, not just piss us off.
1677 6.4 6.997. Disturbia (2007)
696 7 7.696. The Kite Runner (2007)
A well-made but too-depressing film.
211 6.4 6.895. Eagle vs Shark (2007)
A very low budget and charming New Zealand film with Jemaine Clement, from "Flight of the Conchords"
1909 6.8 794. P.S. I Love You (2007)
Post Script; good to watch with your lady.
301 6.4 6.593. The Water Horse (2007)
A sweet little Scottish family film that doesn't wow you at any point; but makes you care for a huge sea creature nonetheless.
922 6.8 7.492. Death at a Funeral (2007)
A slap-stick British movie with a mediocre cast of characters.
511 7.6 7.691. Lust, Caution (2007)
1132 5.6 6.290. Rush Hour 3 (2007)
Least best of the three. Still has some funny lines and good action.
1189 6.7 7.289. Shooter (2007)
Whalberg turns in his usual meager performance but Kate Mara makes up for it and the film actually delivers a few surprises and maintained my interest.
258 5.9 688. Margot at the Wedding (2007)
Baumbach writing mixed with his usual directing of unusual performances.
54 6.5 7.287. My Kid Could Paint That (2007)
A comical story about what most of us think when we're in modern art galleries. Because they started filming early on in the family's career, it made it interesting not knowing where they were going with the doc.
563 6.5 7.186. The Kingdom (2007)
Decent modern war story; but too generic to really hold my interest enough to see it ever again.
1422 5.6 685. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007)
Middle of the pack for Sandler and his gang. Funny cameos and it actually does a good job of NOT making fun of the gay community rather it makes fun of those who make fun of them.
55 6.3 6.784. The TV Set (2006)
598 7.2 7.583. Freedom Writers (2007)
Nothing too wildly original in this film that found Swank stuck in a poorly written script; but still comes out looking good.
1775 6.6 7.282. The Mist (2007)
A warm-up of sorts to Darabont's 'The Walking Dead'. It's psychological horror at its purest. The main thing that brings this down is the acting, and surprisingly, the directing. Darabont nails the King drama/horror but this is on a lower level than 'The Green Mile' and 'Shawshank Redemption'.
The ending horrible yet brilliant at the same time.
154 6 6.181. Color Me Kubrick (2005)
Malkovich has a blast with this role but I kind of lost interest half way through after seeing him pull the same stuff over and over.
3183 5.9 680. Shrek the Third (2007)
Rather disappointing after the comedic success of the second one but still able to illicit some laughs.
482 6.7 6.979. 2 Days in Paris (2007)
A lot of interesting dialogue with two actors I really like, along with creative storytelling. However I think it could have worked better as a 20 minute short, not an entire movie
425 7.3 7.578. The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006)
1005 6.6 6.977. Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
Even slower paced than first. Owen adds some interesting scenes, and of course the story is good and Cate will always be amazing.
1736 6.1 6.576. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)
Nick Cage finds things and then more things and throws in some smart ass humor and then finds more things until he finds what he really wants.
344 6.9 775. Breach (2007)
Cool story, interesting pace, and a bit of a thinker.
753 6.5 774. Black Snake Moan (2006)
A strange film that made me feel dirty; but still good quality and Jackson does great in this music-centered role.
1637 6.9 7.473. The Bucket List (2007)
Two great actors in a decent film about getting it done before you kick it.
745 6.7 6.972. Meet the Robinsons (2007)
Surprisingly good. A few twists and turns with a fun soundtrack; but boasting only average CG animation.
966 7.4 7.771. La Vie en Rose (2007)
1572 6.3 6.570. Music and Lyrics (2007)
Pop goes my heart!
4957 7.2 7.469. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Pretty decent new leg to the saga
531 6.6 7.168. The Lookout (2007)
A stoic thriller with a breakout performance by Levitt
304 6.5 6.767. King of California (2007)
It's refreshing to see Douglas back in a likable role and movie and Evan Rachel Wood has gotten my attention this year with this movie and "Across the Universe"
818 6.8 7.466. Mr. Brooks (2007)
A wild role for Costner, possibly his best non-sports role I've seen since 'Wolves'. The ending of the film was awesome if it ended when it should have. If they stuck with the scene I'm referring to then this film could have made the top 50.
1903 5.8 6.165. The Golden Compass (2007)
1007 7.1 7.664. August Rush (2007)
Great music, a bit hokey, but good clean fun
9 5.7 7.363. Manda Bala
A wild documentary that will have you scared to ever visit Sau Paulo
67 6.6 7.462. Talk to Me (2007)
A fun look at a crazy DJ during the Civil Rights movement of the 60s. Cheadle is awesome, as usual.
371 6.9 7.261. The Savages (2007)
2138 6.6 7.260. Enchanted (2007)
How could you not love Amy Adams after this film? Some fun songs, too!
863 7.7 7.859. Control (2007)
Love... love will tear us apart.
And it did.
4750 7.2 7.858. 300 (2006)
Excellent fight scenes and one gorgeous Lena Headey
178 6.5 6.757. Seraphim Falls (2006)
128 7.1 7.656. The Namesake (2006)
Kal Penn should do more films like this. Come on, Kal - "Epic Movie" films or "The Namesake" films, make the right choice.
1463 6.1 6.855. Hairspray (2007)
A great cast with pretty likable music and an okay storyline.
98 6.8 7.254. Confessions of a Superhero (2007)
Another noteworthy documentary from 07. They were able to capture some awesome interviews and find some cooky real-life characters. I wanted to keep following them after the credits rolled.
877 6.7 7.253. Fracture (2007)
It's been a while since I've seen Hopkins in a good flick and Gosling is on a roll.
2629 7.5 7.952. Hot Fuzz (2007)
A buddy cop movie in a way only the British can pull off.
1063 6.2 6.751. Shoot 'Em Up (2007)
