While it wasn't Scorsese's best it was still by far the year's best. An all-star cast with a dynamite script and beautiful plot development all arranged by the greatest filmmaker of all-time.
Stehako's rating:
It's my highest yearly ranked Pixar movie, but only in the middle of the pack overall. The studio is unstoppable and I always look forward to their annual contribution to the world.
Stehako's rating:
Wow, possibly the best Bond film yet. It's so good, it's hard for me to really call it a Bond film. It actually has good acting, writing, action, and is worth watching a second time. I am a fan of the Bond films, but this is in a whole different category.
Stehako's rating:
In time this could be better than the Wachowski's Matrix. Very memorable scenes throughout this stylistic vengeance thriller.
Stehako's rating:
DiCaprio's second best film of the year is at No. 5. The guy can do no wrong. Hounsou and Connolly a great in this film that will hopefully help people understand just a tiny bit more of what people in African countries are going through every day.
Stehako's rating:
Will Smith, another entertainer who can do no wrong. In what was supposed to be only his second film not to gross over $100 (The first was 'The Legend of Bagger Vance') became a huge success and the world's love for The Fresh Prince grows stronger.
Stehako's rating:
I typically shy away from films having to do with magic; but when I saw Bale, Jackman, Johansson and Caine were in this film I took my chances, and I am very glad I did.
Stehako's rating:
A very well-executed film about what people who were caught in the middle of '9/11' went through on that day. Similar to Titanic, where you know what's going to happen but can't help and hope for a twist at the end.
Stehako's rating:
As one of the few people who didn't read the Dan Brown book I was not disappointed at all in this fun scavenger hunt that Nick Cage could only dream of being in.
Stehako's rating:
The only reason why this film was at all disappointing was because it was only as good as the second; so still damn fun visually enthralling.
Stehako's rating:
Sadly the funniest film of the year. I usually have at least one comedy break the top ten. Vince Vaughn continues to entertain; but the supporting cast is what makes it the best comedy of the year.
Stehako's rating:
Three okay stories spliced together to make one excellent film.
Stehako's rating:
Clive Owen's breakout year started with this fresh heist flick. I think heist films are generally good but this one makes it toward the top of the list.
Stehako's rating:
The perfect cast, the perfect van, and the perfect finale. The film overall wasn't perfect, but those three elements helped it secure the No. 15 spot.
Stehako's rating:
Like I said earlier, I'm not a fan of magic, I think it's dumb; but 2006 managed to host two very entertaining films. This was more visually stunning but held a less interesting story. One similarity: They both had three great actors and one gorgeous woman.
Stehako's rating:
Even more enjoyable than Garden State, the film anyone would naturally relate it to. I am now in love with Rachel Bilson, wow!
Stehako's rating:
A very funny film with the guys from Broken Lizard (Super Troopers). The group is clearly well versed in three very important subjects: Marijuana, Beer, and Women.
Stehako's rating:
A well-crafted satire that should finally make... what's his name, a star.
Stehako's rating:
Maybe I was too excited for this film; because I came away from it disappointed and tearing it apart. Then again, I've done that with every Will Ferrell movie; so I'll let this one season a little more.
Stehako's rating:
Borat is a very funny character. I didn't go crazy over the movie because it seemed like just another episode on Da Ali G Show, which I love. The funniest scene was actually cut from the film (can be seen in the DVD bonus features) where Borat is asking a grocery store clerk what things are and he spends nearly ten minutes asking "and what is this?" to every package of cheese in the aisle. Relentless and genius.
Stehako's rating:
A great execution by Eastwood showing the Japanese side of the days at Iwo Jima. In time, this could be as good as the similar execution in "Das Boot"
Stehako's rating:
A cult comedy that needs to be seen over and over, whether drunk or sober, high or straight.
Stehako's rating:
Intelligent films like this rarely get the star power this one did. Damon's best role since 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' and we finally see Pesci back on film, if only for a few minutes.
Stehako's rating:
Bigger and better than the first. Depp can entertain millions. Bloom doesn't add anything, but Knightley is a true beauty who can actually act.
Stehako's rating:
A very fun musical that will make you want to go out and buy the soundtrack immediately afterward. I thought Jennifer Hudson was a little too much and Eddie Murphy was not enough (wait, did I really just say that??)
Stehako's rating:
Owen Wilson carries this film with very little help from his supporting cast. Seth Rogen is the only other entertaining part, besides the Lance Armstrong cameo of course.
Stehako's rating:
A great cast takes you through four interesting lives during the holidays. It's not preachy, it's not hokey, and it makes you feel good at the end.
Stehako's rating:
It's too bad Mel Gibson's antics destroyed any chance of this film doing well at the box office. He proves again that he is a superb filmmaker. He manages to make a movie with a dead language and very little dialogue intense and emotionally involving.
Stehako's rating:
Del Toro's style is materializing through the few, but memorable films he has made. The best film about a labyrinth since 'Labyrinth'! But much better.
Stehako's rating:
Here we go again, Kate Winslet showing off that curvy body in unnecessary nude scenes. I'm not complaining; but it is one example of how everything in this film is out of place. I would normally call it bad filmmaking; but when a film is so consistently inconsistent it becomes very good... somehow.
Stehako's rating:
Nothing too original about this broad college comedy; but I left entertained, and I have actually seen it twice now. Jonah Hill and Justin Long are a great team, and Blake Lively has just made my list of women I need to get to know.
Stehako's rating:
A Slow-paced mystery that doesn't get solved. Brilliant!
Stehako's rating:
It didn't blow my mind; but then again, I've never been a huge Superman fan. It is probably the most beautiful and well-crafted superhero movie I've seen.
Stehako's rating:
I didn't know what this film was about when I first watched it; so I was quite surprised how this modern-day true story unraveled.
Stehako's rating:
The musical numbers were good, the animation was good, the message was good. So, overall pretty good for a non-Pixar CG movie.
Stehako's rating:
I was very surprised at how entertaining this film was. The only role I've liked Josh Hartnett in (beside 'Sin City', and that was mainly because it was so short)
Stehako's rating:
I cannot believe I actually teared up in an Adam Sandler movie. This film looked so bad, the promotions made me sick; but it was actually good. I think the father-son storyline really hit me. Oh, and Kate Beckinsale is the most beautiful woman on the planet.
Stehako's rating:
Wait, two movies where I very surprisingly teared up? I thought this movie was going to be an over-hyped, over-blown disaster of a remake; but damn it, it was good. It's amazing how a story between a pig and a spider can hit me so emotionally.
Stehako's rating:
Naked women walking down a grocery aisle? I'm in! This British film was a delight to watch, there is much more to this film than the nudity.
Stehako's rating:
Cinematography at its noir best. Hartnett was also tolerable in this film, too.
Stehako's rating:
A great cast of Emilio Estevez's friends and family(Nick Cannon kind of ruined an emotional moment by being too emotional) mix story lines in the Ambassador Hotel the night RFK died. LCD never looked like so much fun!
Stehako's rating:
Wow! How did this film fail at the box office? Aranofsky spent six years making this undeserving flop. I have seen it twice and just watched it on Blue-Ray and it's one of the most visually beautiful films ever! But yeah, the plot was a bit contrived and it would be very boring if you take out the visuals.
Stehako's rating:
Not a film any man wants to see; but one we should all see, if we're ever considering anything similar to what this guy was trying to pull. Terrifying and shocking, Ellen Page will no doubt gain some great roles after this.
Stehako's rating:
With such a great cast and concept this should have an amazing film; but somehow it failed to ignite enough interest and I pushed myself to watch the entire thing. I rank it this high because of Blanchett's acting and the direction from Soderbergh.
Stehako's rating:
This was a fun movie with a good cast throughout. I hear they are making a second one with an even bigger cast, including Amy Adams and Jonah Hill.
Stehako's rating:
Such a beautiful film. Like 'The Fountain', I could watch it over and over; but the story was just too negative all the way through until the end when I didn't care enough about the characters to feel differently.
Stehako's rating:
This film will get you pissed off with how simple of an idea the Electric Car is and how we're wasting so much money and ruining air quality by not producing them.
Stehako's rating:
The first film I saw in 3D and it was fun family entertainment. A good set of voice talent and an interesting enough storyline.
Stehako's rating:
Jared Hess's follow-up to 'Napoleon Dyamite' was less than stellar; but Jack Black can certainly entertain under any circumstance. His two musical numbers are what put this into the top 50.
