If everyone would just 'look closer', the world would be perfect. I need to watch this once or twice a year, just to remind myself to 'look closer'.
Tapio's rating:
Seriously UNDERRATED. Visually fantastic and twisted media satire.
Tapio's rating:
I'm a fan of Gilliam's works. "A Modern Day Tale About The Search For Love, Sanity, Ethel Merman And The Holy Grail." Luvin' it.
Tapio's rating:
Haven't still read Thompson's book, but this is fabulous nevertheless. I'm a fan of Gilliam's works. Delicious critic against the 'American dream', disguised as a brainless drug-journey.
Tapio's rating:
*****
Great depiction of the modern consumption driven society. Tapio's rating:
****½
Visually great, fast and exciting adrenaline rush exploring the butterfly effect with an 'easy' and humorous touch. Tapio's rating:
Haneke's fantastic film, which changed the way I think about violence in media. This film asks you directly: "How sick are YOU, the viewer, for considering this as entertainment?"
Tapio's rating:
A film that makes you laugh at the serious problems of these characters. Pure genius.
Tapio's rating:
***** or ****½ (Needs rewatch)
I never really 'got' Blue and I thought White wasn't nearly as funny as everyone said it was. But Red is a masterpiece. I love Charlie Kaufman -films, so this obviously has to be on the list. Weird and fantastic film about the selfishness and superficiality of people.
Tapio's rating:
****½
Overly sentimental (its a Spielberg, so what did you expect?), but very important and necessary film and therefore deserves its right to be on the list. Like Fight Club, but not at all like Fight Club. Great depiction of modern society and suffering individuals.
Tapio's rating:
****½
Aronofsky is my personal favorite from these 'new' directors. Great psychological thriller. ****½
I'm a fan of Gilliam's works. Modern scifi classic. Gilliam's another future vision which has a great plot and a lots of critic against the society. Tapio's rating:
Fabulous film from the urban poet, Wong Kar-wai.
Tapio's rating:
A romantic drama film and depiction loneliness - á la Almodóvar.
Tapio's rating:
Good film about.. well everyday life. Series of intersecting lives and incidents, lied down by luck and change.
Tapio's rating:
Great Almodóvar film, though I think I should have watched 'Streetcar named Desire' and 'All About Eve' before watching this.
Tapio's rating:
Danny Boyle's debut is great film about greed, but it has some minor flaws.
Tapio's rating:
This is one of those films, which imperfection makes it almost perfect.
This film is COOL in all capital letters. Nikita is one of my all time favorite movie characters.
Tapio's rating:
****½ or **** (Needs rewatch)
Too much stereotypes, but otherwise a good - and also kinda necessary - film. Not as great anti-drug film as Requiem for a Dream, but still good.
Tapio's rating:
Otherwise another great film from von Trier, but too 'heavy' and I found it kinda similar to Dancer in the Dark (2000).
Tapio's rating:
Needs rewatch, though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't give any better rating than ****. Great philosophical war film, but still too typical in some times and kinda long.
Tapio's rating:
Same as above. You might find it either superficial gross flick or an unconventional depiction of society. Either way, this is a film you won't easily forget.
Tapio's rating:

Description
Wouldn't include: Big Lebowski ** The Best Comedy Ever Made? Please, kidd me not. White russians and bowling are both great, but you can't really make a movie out of those two. Donnie Brasco *½ Probably THE most boring film I've ever seen. Needs rewatch though, saw it last time 4 years ago. Forrest Gump *** I liked it, until I read the book. Glengarry Glen Ross * Okay, I changed my mind. This is THE most boring film I've ever seen. No plot, no drama, no character development, no idea, no greater meaning. Good actors though. Great/Good films which I didn't include for some reason or another. (Mostly 'cause I didn't find any kind of 'greater meaning' in them): Pulp Fiction **** The Usual Suspects ***½ LA Confidential **** Reservoir Dogs **** Jackie Brown ***** The Green Mile ****½ Shawshank Redemption **** GoodFellas ****½ Matrix ***½ (force-feeding...) Apparently good films, which I'm not particularly interested in watching: JFK True Romance Dazed and Confused Wild at Heart Ed Wood The English Patient Hard Boiled Braveheart Films I want to watch from the 90's: Barton Fink Jacob's Ladder Hana-bi Carlito's Way I Stand Alone Fargo Unforgiven Heat The Crying Game Pleasantville Sling Blade Drifting Clouds Sonantine 8 MM The Piano Bullet in the Head Life is Beautiful The City of Lost Children etc, etc, etc...
