![]() This online multiplayer shooter was a huge hit when released, thanks to great maps, up to 64 players, 20 different weapons, and 30+ vehicles anyone can jump into and control, including tanks, boats and planes. There was an offline single-player mode where you battle against AI-controlled units, but the main gameplay of this game was its online mode. You can join either US, UK, German, Russian, or Japanese forces aross four different war theatres - South Pacific, North Africa, Western and Eastern European fronts. Prelude's rating:

![]() This expansion for BF 1942 adds the least known battles of WWII - the Italian and Sicilian campaigns. There are two new forces you can control (French Legionnaires and Italian forces), eight new vehicles, new weapons (Bayonet; rifle grenade launcher, Sten SMG), and six new maps based in Italy and Siciliy. 2003 release which included the original BF 1942, the Road to Rome expansion, and three new bonus maps.

![]() This 2nd expanion for BF 1942 focuses on experimental vehicles and weapons that were being developed during WWII. Rocket planes, heavy-duty tanks, and personal rocket launcher are among some of the new toys, along with eight new maps, including a V2 launch site and Hitler's secret Eagle's Nest. 2004 compilation release of the original BF 1942 and both of its add-ons, Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII, the three extra maps found in the Deluxe edition, and two more new bonus maps.

![]() The first sequel to Battlefield 1942 moves the 64-player online gameplay to the Vietnam war theatre, bringing all new maps, vehicles, weapons, and armed forces (US and Vietcong) to the mix. A 'Redux' edition appeared in 2005, which included all the latest patches as well as an EA-made mod 'World War II' for this game, allowing BF 1942 maps to be played on BF: Vietnam's upgraded graphics. This 2005 release is simply a re-packaged 'BF 1942 WWII Anthology' with the sequel, 'Battlefield Vietnam' added to the collection.

The first console version of the Battlefield series was set in the modern era, and appeared on both Xbox and PS2 consoles in October 2005. Compared to the PC version, the consoles got toned down textures and resolutions, and an online 24-player limit instead of 64. Release: Nov. 2005

![]() Previously released individually, this collection includes both add-on 'Booster Packs' for Battlefield 2. The first is 'Euro Force', which adds three new maps, seven weapons, four vehicles (including the Euro Fighter), and a new fighting force (European army). The second pack is 'Armored Fury' which brings three new maps all based in the US, several new vehicles (including the A-10 Tank Buster, and a new ability to airdrop vehicles loaded with troops, which is a required strategy for the new maps. This 2007 edition brings the entire Battlefield 2 series to your hands; Battlefield 2 (base game), Special Forces expansion, and the two booster packs, Euro Force and Armored Fury.
This 2008 compilation brings you the base version of Battlefield 2142, along with its booster pack, Northern Strike.
The Battlefield series takes it to the next level, but unfortunately away from its PC roots, releasing 'Bad Company' only for the X360 and PS3 systems. It combines the 24-player FPS multiplayer action with something not found in any of the other games - a focused single-player campaign and story line, with in-depth character developement in your squad. The new engine has been completely revamped as well, to allow a level of object destruction unseen in the series. Anything you cover behind can be destroyed with the right weapons. Release: Jun. 2009

A Windows version is expected in Sep. 2009. Major clean-up and update to this list. This is how I plan on making all the major game series I have listed.

Added the freeware web-based game, Battlefield Heroes. It looks like a fun blast.
