Bands you might not know about.
That 1 GuyMike Silverman, or better known as That 1 Guy is a one man band who tours around with his homemade instruments.
Well known for wearing an all black ensemble (doesn't matter how hot it is) and has the overall appearance of an Amish man. That is because he is... or was. He was born into an Amish family, and at the age of 18, the rules are you can either break from everything you grew up knowing to become a part of the modern world or stay with what you know best in the Amish community. Mike found music, so he left bravely to pursue becoming a musician. His Amish skills helped him in the end though. Mike Silverman has his own homemade instruments. Mainly The Magic Pipe, but he also has a The Magic Boot, and the Magic Saw. He is a 1 man band and has been playing at venues/ university's since 1990. He has 3 full release albums 'Songs in the Key of Beotch' 'The Moon Is Disgusting' 'Packs A Wallop!' Lyrics to the below video: Of all the dirt that we dug, I think my favorite was the mud. Of all the wine that we drank, I think my favorite was the blood. Of all the bombs that we lit, I think my favorite was the dud. Of all the things that we chew, I think my favorite is the cut Of the cow. Like that time when we lie to and fro Hope to throw. Tables turn, books that burn, hurt the shine, Tilt the wheel, hold the hand, cop a feel, close the deal, Like that time, turpentine, when we lie to and fro. Of all the banks that we robbed, I think my favorite one was mine. Of all the bushes that burned, the ones I liked talked wise and kind. Of all the toys that we smashed, I think I liked the ones that wind. Of all the beotches we pimp slapped, I liked the ones that did not mind Over matter. Your head on a platter, put the bread in the batter-y acid, Don't I scrink(?) on it, island on a sun, this side down, to the water, You'll sell me your daughter, I'll plot a new course on a horse. With no name droppin', pill poppin' son of a beotch The bug bites make me iotch. Of all the trees that we hugged, I think I liked the ones that died. Of all the butts that we grabbed, I remember only the wide ones. Of all the whales that we beached, ya chose to blame it on the tide. Of all the forks that we stole, just to jab each others eyes Of the shape of the smoke, of the bang of the pipe. Twist and turn, reckless burn, melting wax, melting hype. Hurt to change, keep exchange, burning down, turning ripe. Of the shape of the smoke, of the bang of the pipe. Personal Note: I am proud to say I have had the honor to see this guy 3 times. 2 times at a music festival in the summertime, and once in a tiny venue called the '8X10'. At the 8X10, since it is such a small venue, artists go there with the intention of mingling with the fans after the show. I had the honor of meeting him and he's such a gentleman. He is absolutely amazing at his shows as well. Not only does he WOW you with his magic pipe, but the music he plays to the magic tricks he preforms while playing his songs are so entertaining. You will see nothing else like it. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
Pretty LightsDerek Vincent Smith, or 'Pretty Lights' is an American electronic music artist who got the stage name Pretty Lights from a Pink Floyd poster. Typical story with this guy, he went to college and dropped out to pursue his love for music and got lucky by starting to do shows with bands such as STS9 and Widespread Panic. He mainly does the festival scene, you can catch a show more than likely in the summertime.
He mainly takes samples from songs and mixes them with 2 or 3 other songs adding a bass heavy beat to dance too. He also writes his own songs. Pretty Lights is also well known for his live performance. A brightly lit block-like stage lights up the entire night sky with bright vibrant colors and crazy 3D-esque visuals. It is also provided with speakers 3X as big as your body. Just to make sure you get that buzz feeling going on in your body due the heavy bass. Pretty Lights has 3 full album releases 'Taking Up Your Precious Time' 'Filling Up The City Skies' 'Passing By Behind Your Eyes' Personal Note: I also have been blessed to have seen this man live. I saw him at the SAME music festival I saw That 1 Guy at. If you want me to REALLY brag about it, I saw him RIGHT after Primus played for about 2 hours. His set went from 11pm to 5am. No joke. And I stayed and danced the ENTIRE time. I cannot express the beauty of the show he puts on. His stage set up is one of the most impressive things I've seen ever. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
ThundercatThundercat (not thundercats.) Is a newcomer to the music scene. His music is mainly electronic jazz wave. Thundercat is just 1 person Stephen Bruner who is also a member of the thrash band Suicidal Tendency. He's barely past 20, and has an addiction to 80's cartoons. Other than that we really don't know much about him, but thanks to his recent full release album
'The Golden Age Of The Apocalypse' I'm sure we will find out a lot about him soon. Lyrics to the song below: Open your mind, Daylight, Open your eyes Personal Note: When my boyfriend played this album for the first time I was instantly hooked. It's awesome background music for a party or something. And then when you get all drunk and groovy it's some of the funnest music to dance to. Did I also mention a lot of tracks are relaxing? As of September 30th 2011 Dananananaykroyd admitted that their current tour would be their final tour. Lyrics to the song below: Yeah! Great skies of green Yeah! Great fields of blue Yeah! Vast swathes of pink Who put the fork in your tongue? Who broke the belt with a bang? Try to remember: 'Old dog, new tricks' Say it: "It's alright" It's not your name they're dragging through the mud, it's mine Who put the fork in your tongue? Who broke the belt with a bang? Try to remember your insularity Say it: "It's alright" It's not your name they're dragging through the mud Forget to segregate yourself Forget to flagellate yourself Door meets door in the glamorous mansion Forget to segregate yourself Forget to flagellate yourself And it's teeming with shadows; Paralyzed minds make decisions in the dark Who put the fork in your tongue? Who broke the belt with a bang? Buy it, run it, kick it, fuck it, yeah. Personal Note: To be honest I'm not too into this band. I have to admit though, sometimes when a song by them comes on there are moments where I'm just like 'WHOA where the hell did that riff come from?' They surprise me sometimes. Not gonna lie. The music scene most established with this band is psychedelic American pop. Originally Portugal. The Man was made as a side project by lead singer John Gourley. Lyrics to the song below: Through crooked teeth and mouthed up ties They spit you up river just like all those lions That walked the banks They said, "Paint me that river And would you use only blues With a brilliant big black mouth and? Lengths of pines that route the river through Through and through" Fashion ballrooms of the leaves We’d like to watch the ghosts dance They said, "Paint me that arm That lies directly over mountains Where the glaciers climb so tall. One absent of the scars passing boats and ships and oars Tend to leave with all the sounds of the ocean." I am but a man But a proud, proud man Silver bells that line the way Through baited trails. We’ll find you there Personal Note: I've been listening to this band for a while and the shear original sound is what makes me love this band the most. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
100 Monkeys 100 monkeys is an improv funky rock band. As they like to put it their music is influenced by "Drinking, the devil, death and women who cheat and steal." They formed in 2008 by realizing that all 5 members had an ability to play a large amount of different instruments. They gained the most popularity due to Jackson Rathbone being a member, and his new stardom, thanks to films such as the Twilight saga and The Last Airbender. It was SO MUCH FUN! High energy, great opening bands, (it was also the first time I could legally drink at a show). I don't think I've heard girls scream SO loud in my entire life over Jackson. They did an audience participation improv song about belly buttons. After the show they all came out signed posters and whatnot. All of them are very nice. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
Natalie Portman's Shaved HeadBrite Futures (formerly known as Natalie Portman's Shaved Head), is an American Electronic/Indie band. Natalie Portman has yet to see a show.

"...it has recently come to our attention that our muse Ms. Portman is not so keen on us using her name in ours...". Lyrics to the song below: I like it when you say you've got a gun in your back That's so hot, that's so hot I like it when you say you're gonna kill JT Turns me on, turns me on I like it when you say you're gonna beat kids up Gets me off, gets me off I like it when you say you'd go gay for Ben That's so bomb, that's so bomb Do you like my ponytail? My sideways ponytail? (It's true, it's true!) Do you like my ponytail? (I do, I do!) My sideways ponytail? (It's true, it's true!) Personal Note: I just recently began to listen to this band, and for the most part I feel like it's dumb. But at the same time its excellent. I'm kind of confused on how I feel. The beats are great, the attitude is hilarious, the lyrics are dumb (not in a bad way, on purpose I guess?) It's overall a mixed feeling. TeamDaiGurren's rating:

I know most of you might not like this kind of music and I'm not going to be a loser about it and say you don't know what your talking about. But, if you do like it, +15 points of respect to you from me. This band was a staple in my high school years. TeamDaiGurren's rating:

The band's lead singer Anthony Green was the lead singer to the band Saosin but felt like he would be miserable if he was signed to a record label with the band. Yltfos os kaeps. Yltfos.) Personal Note: Circa Survive is one of my favorite bands. The reason I chose this song is because it's my favorite. I actually got permission from the band to use this song in one of the short films I've made. This song made me buy a copy of 'House Of Leaves' which I'm currently reading and thoroughly enjoying. I saw them live FOR FREE. It was a secret show in Baltimore, and if you were in the first 100 people, you got in for free. Me and a few friends stood in the rain for 2 hours to get a spot. I hold them as one of the top 10 best shows I've ever seen. It was so full of emotion. This band never fails to amaze me. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
Heavy Heavy Low LowHeavy Heavy Low Low (HHLL) is a band that is quite one of a kind. They are generally considered metal, but over the years have changed what kind of metal they play. It started as Thrashcore and changed to Metalcore but here recently with their last album release have ultimately been deemed 'Experimental Metal'. I still call them Mathcore. They formed in 2004 and are still together and touring. They are well known for their sloppy sound and overall noise. I would call their music noise for sure. They are also well known for their openly heavy partying lifestyles.
They currently have 3 full album releases: Courtside Seats Everything's Watched, Everyone's Watching Turtle Nipple and the Toxic Shock They currently have 4 members: Chris Fritter- Drums Robert "Robbie" Smith – Vocals Andrew Fritter – Bass Samuel Pura- Guitar/Vocals (Australian Touring Guitarist) Lyrics to the song below: throw me through this car window and land me outside where i can breathe better and pass away alright this is ill at ease and i worry, i worry oh my god i felt my heart stop i felt my fucking heart stop but were going all the way i only have myself to blame oh they know, they know, they know their eyes are tearing the skin from our bodies and dressing us in guilt, filling our wounds with salt my stomach is tying itself in knots and eating itself and everything else, there must be something in the water making this an awkward situation Personal Note: Lol this band. Another band that glided me through high school. I love the sound. I love angry noise. I love the breakdowns. I'm not going to be surprised if you don't like it. I love the lyrics as well. Most of them are hilarious. Most of their songs are also only 1-2 minutes long. It was hard to chose which song I wanted to represent them. I love most of their songs. This song is obviously about a fatal car crash. TeamDaiGurren's rating:

Is it getting in the way of this lovely song? Just promise me that you'll never leave I'd die if you leave me When I was young All of these things didn't matter But now times have changed And I wasn't paying attention So fuck you and your mass media toys That make being alive seem like a chore I don't know how much of this i can handle Excuse me is my rant taking too long? Is it getting in the way of this lovely song? Just promise me that you'll never leave I'd die if you leave me Personal Note: I saw this band open for 'She Wants Revenge' the show was so laid back and mystical it put me in a trance, and then they would come in with some heavy hitting guitar rifts to bring you back to reality. It was quite enjoyable. TeamDaiGurren's rating:

They are also well known for their extensive list of genres tied to the band.
Extreme metal, electronic music, grindcore, IDM, doom metal, ambient, synth-laden metal, experimental, math-core, cybergrind. They have also been picked as a critic's choice for their album 'Board Up The House' by New York Times. They currently have 2 full length albums: Board Up The House Dead Mountain Mouth They currently have 3 members: Mookie Singerman - vocals, keyboards Michael Sochynsky - keyboards, drum programming Hamilton Jordan - guitar, bass guitar, drum programming Lyrics for the song below: Brave Free of consequence Slaying The camel's gash Pine marks his passing well One won't do Armed twice for push up's sake Arms like these swing a state Arms like these hug the law Arms like these flail when our songs hit a desert bride Arms like these cross when they're locked in a draped pine box Shock, it's a shock—trees in lee never leaved armies Shock, it's a shock these trees Shock, it's a shock—trees in lee never leaved bits of me It's a shock, it's a shock. Personal Note: I love this band. They are awesome. It's 2 of my favorite genres of music in one fell swoop. Even my boyfriend likes it and hes not into the whole grindcore thing. The breakdowns are the best. TeamDaiGurren's rating:
