1. 300 (2006)
Alpha Male: King Leonidas

Battling insurmountable odds
Leaving Sparta with very little fanfare, Leonidas strolls out of Sparta with 300 warriors fully aware that he is about to lead them into battle against an army of over one million Persian invaders.

Body of a Greek God
Not only him, but his entire army sport torsos that look as though they were carved from titanium. Even the rocky Greek landscape pales in comparison to the uncharted territory of Leonidas' abs.

2. First Blood (1982)
Alpha Male: John Rambo

Conquering nature
In the American wilderness, Rambo is the law. Could easily survive with just his trusty blade and a head band in the great outdoors. Seen in later episodes capturing deadly snakes and navigating abandoned mine shafts.

Self-surgery
While most men would be quite happy to keel over and die after being shot, Rambo wont let that keep him down. Instead, Rambo isn't afraid of breaking out a needle and thread, or a burning hot piece of foliage to brand his wounds closed.

3. Rocky (1976)
Alpha Male: Rocky Balboa

Conquering nature
When stranded in the Siberian wastes, Rocky doesn't let it affect his training regime. Instead he conquers mountains, annihilates tree trunks and shifts boulders around to pass the days.

Battling against insurmountable odds
His entire life was a million to one shot. Has he ever been the favourite in any of his battles? I doubt it. Whether it's going the distance with the heavyweight champ or knocking out the deadliest organ-pounding soviet export since vodka, he simply cannot fail.

4. Predator (1987)
Alpha Male: Alan "Dutch" Schaefer

Defeating the undefeatable
Things look grim for Dutch after an invisible intergalactic hunter from a technologically advanced society wipes out his entire unit of bad ass commandos, but from the second he susses a weakness in the aliens armour, it's GAME ON.

Being topless
When you have the body of Mr Olympia, it's only fair you use it to your advantage. Undoubtedly a key factor in his psychological victory over the Predator.

5. Gladiator (2000)
Alpha Male Maximus

Defeating the undefeatable
Those Romans weren't exactly a bunch renowned for being beaten. But thrashing his way through the Gladiatorial arenas earned Maximus a title shot against the corrupt Roman Emperor Commodus. Even with a fatal wound, he slayed the scum bag without so much as a boast.

Body of a Greek God
Maximus is helped by the fact that he is a total unit. Look at his armour, I don't think anyone else has ever looked better in a Lorica.

6. Léon: The Professional (1994)
Alpha Male: Leon

Body of a Greek God
It may not be as obvious, but practising callisthenics every day isn't going to do his abs any harm. His core strength was demonstrated with aplomb after hanging from the rafters and annihilating several SWAT members.

Loner
Almost completely uninitiated with human contact until Matilda shows up. The coldest of hearts, but the most efficient of existences. When your only friend is foliage, you know you're on the right path.

Man Points: 21

7. Cast Away (2000)
Alpha Male Chuck Noland

Self-surgery
When nature fails to provide dentists on its isolated islands, where do you go when you have a toothache? You turn to an ice-skate and a rock. Ingenuity at its finest.

Epic Facial hair
Chuck is AWOL for a good four years, but in that time he ensures that when humanity next sees him, they'll be reminded of Methuselah. A shaggy hair and beard combo that not even Jesus himself could beat.

Man Points: 20

8. Braveheart (1995)
Alpha Male William Wallace

Inspirational Speeches
A golden tongue can go a long way to transforming a bunch of angry drunkards into a ruthless band of killers. Fearlessness is an undoubtedly useful ally in battle, especially against English dogs!

Unafraid of death
He'd give his life for Scotland, to pave the way for freedom! When offered the choice of submission or death, he didn't have to think twice.

Man Points: 19

9. Commando (1985)
Alpha Male: John Matrix

Battling against insurmountable odds
Matrix scores 81 certified kills in this film alone. As well as blasting his way through reams of hapless mercenaries, he is battling against old father time as well. It only goes to show that a private army is not enough to stop him in his tracks.

Defeating the undefeatable
Not only does he take these bad guys on, he absolutely wipes them out. He does such an efficient job of clearing out the private militia that the only threat to his reinforcements once they arrive are the corpses strewn across the tropical paradise.

10. Die Hard (1988)
Alpha Male: John McClane

Battling against insurmountable odds
'Always out-numbered, never out-gunned' may as well be McClane's motto. The tough talking city cop is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. One man Vs paramilitary rebels, a German terrorist organisation, another German terrorist organisation or some internet geeks? The odds are never on his side.

Create weapons from surroundings
In his long and prosperous career, McClane has created bombs in the form of office chairs and exploded a helicopter from the sky using a car. These heroics can not go unrecognised.

11. Troy (2004)
Alpha Male: Achilles

Body of a Greek God
Achilles is essentially a Greek God, therefore no complaints about his muscle mass can ever be raised.

Defeating the undefeatable
Achilles' reintegration into battle revitalised the Greek campaign against Troy. Slaughtering a key Trojan general in the process inevitably aided in the final destruction of such a majestic city.

Man Points: 17
Grand Assault's rating:

People who added this item 1443  Average listal rating (970 ratings) 7.1  IMDB Rating 8.3
12. Jaws (1975)
Alpha Male: Martin Brody

Conquering nature
Nature can be bang out of order at times. Genetically engineering the ultimate predators to come in super-sized, super-hungry packages, mankind would have left the sea altogether if it wasn't for Brody and his infamously small boat.

Create weapons from surroundings
His ingenuity appeared when he needed it most. Edging deeper into the abyss where mankind is no match for the sea, Brody's last roll of the dice proves to be his most effective as an oxygen cannister becomes a devastatingly explosive bomb, that rips the killer in two.
