I like the line from Roger Ebert's review, "It goes so far over the top I'm in awe." Me too.

Some of the Plot Keywords from IMDB:
Gangster
Pimp
American Dream
Person on Fire
Female Frontal Nudity

Russian Mafia
Shot in the Crotch
Reference to John Wayne
Pistol Whip
Exploding House

Child Uses Gun
Pedophile
Severed Ear
Urban Nightmare
Racial Slur

Gash in the Face
Hockey Puck
Achilles Tendon Cut
Exploding Body
Methamphetamine

Throat Slitting
Person on Fire
Bare Breasts
Head Blown Off
Hell on Earth

And then maybe the 3rd greatest pimp in film history. Okay probably not but he's up there.

It's like a stylized B-movie western with street thugs and tough guys set in the 80s mixed with the 50s. Did that make any semblance of fucking sense?

Willem Dafoe is the main villain...

Pauline and Juliet are really good friends. Don't split them up or you might regret it A LOT. Yeah so don't do that.

Pre Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson shows that he is a well rounded filmmaker in nailing this troubling drama of friendship and love gone mad. Masterpiece imo.

Not every flick here is a top to bottom masterpiece (well some are dammit) but I will guarantee you that every flick is filled with an OH SHIT moment or two or strives for something big n' bold n' ballsy or will be branded into your brain until the very day you die. Or just all 3. Enjoy ya rat basta'ds!

Also, some are just amazing some are just underrated some are just obscure and some are just bizarre but most of the time there's a little mix n matching crossover going on but don't expect each flick to meet all four criteria. All I know is all these flicks just need more love.

Yeah Jacob's Ladder is a classic. And I love Heaven and Earth.

And is Coal Miner's Daughter underrated? It receives a couple of Oscar nominations and won one for best actress for Sissy Spacek. I don't know if such achievements qualify as being "underrated".
Posted: 6 years, 2 months ago at Sep 27 22:42
All the movies don't have to fit all 4 of the 4 word title description. Coal Miner's Daughter belongs more under the AMAZING portion though yes it did get a lot of recognition when it came out but I still think it gets overlooked now days so I figured it was worth a mention here.

YES! YES! YES! --OH GOD YES!!! Thankx for the "Runaway Train" shout out, yeah! -One of my all time favs that virtually NOBODY remembers. Reminds me of Fargo atmosphere but it's so much more exciting!!!...

Nice, on "Watership Down" and "Bully". British animation with mature content and FREAKIN' LARRY CLARK!!! (what on Earth happened to Brad Renfro?)

Never actually saw "Get on the Bus" but right on Spike Lee deserves more spotlight!...

The Celebration (1998) - what a movie!
Streets of Fire (1984) = Amy Madigan hilarious!
Runaway Train (1985) - breathtaking.
My Name Is Joe (1998) - Ken Loach at his best.

JayTrotter... Incredible film selections. It is so rare that I find a list that intrigues me. I have been in a bit of a rut finding films to watch lately, and looks like I hut the motherlode here. Judging by the films listed that I have seen,i.e. Runaway Train, The Lonely Guy, Three O'clock Fucking High!!! I have the highest hopes for more of the same.So excited! I don't know if you will ever read this, if you still keep up with this site, but I have to put it out there - I appreciate the hell out of the effort and am so happy to be settling in for a long night of good movies.
