Jeff Bridges in Iron Man! All he did was shave his head!

- Eddie Murphy as the White Jewish Guy from the Barber Shop in Coming to America was quite remarkable.
- Vincent D'Onofrio as Edgar Bug in MIB aswell as Tony Shaloub as Jeebs.
- Michael Rooker as Grant in Slither.
- Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in Star Wars (VI to be most precise).

Hey coroner, is it OK if I suggest characters already on the list???

Anyway:
Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Benecio del Toro as the Wolf Man
Ron Perlman as Hellboy
Doug Jones as Abe Sapien
I suppose you could check in the other abnormal mutants from Marvel aswell: Mystique, Nightcrawler etc.

Seeing as guys who shave their heads can make the list:
Rodrigo Santaro as King Xerxes in 300
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 5:56
Great list!!!
I really thought Vincent Price in the 1954 House of Wax deserved to be there too though...
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 7:27
Added :) Thanks, guys!
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 11:55
Dude! Great list.

Gotta request Dustin Hoffman as 'Hook' from the movie of the same name. Didn't even know if was him for a Long time after I saw it as a kid.

peace

Gary Oldman as "Gordon" in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 13:53
I know it's not a movie, but what about Ron Perlman in the Beauty and the Beast series?
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 15:17
Please add Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan in the upcoming Watchmen movie.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 15:22
What about John Leguizamo as The Clown/Violator from Spawn?
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 15:22
What about John Leguizamo as The Clown/Violator from Spawn?

Commissioner Gordon? What a crock. 79% of men who grow moustaches can't be identified from their clean shaven selves. Christ.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 15:27
I would like to nominate Kelsey Grammar as the Beast from X-Men. I knew his name but had no face to put with it when I saw that movie, and for some reason was convinced he was african-american. If that isnt unrecognizable, I dont know what is.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 13 23:45
You really need to add Willem Dafoe in Shadow of the Vampire - awesome transformation very creepy
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 14 18:35
WOW....thanks for all the suggestions! I'm sorry, but there are some limits: 1) no TV movies/series, 2) only 1 character per each actor, 3) preferably, famous actors. Thanks :)
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 14 21:35
How about Peter Sellers in ... well anything he ever did.
Dr Strangelove ... in early days

John Lithgow in Life According to Garp =Roberta Muldoon

The old man in the curious case of benjamain button was CG, not makeup.

you might as well add actors who are the voices of cartoons..
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 15 8:03
Are you sure, bgm? From IMDb: "Brad Pitt stated it took 5 hours each day to complete the make-up required for the role" and (according to other websites) Greg Cannom was the age makeups creator and applicator. I think they only used cgi effects for the younger Button, for the "body assembling" and so on. Also, there are a couple of featurettes about the makeup process available on the web...
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 15 10:10
Great list!!!

I'd recommend Doug Jones... he did two roles with crazy costumes, so take your pick

As the Fauno in El Laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) or,
As Abe Sabien in Hellboy/Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

or, a third option (one I don't personally like compared to the other two...) is as Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 15 11:09
Here's one that always gets me. Glenn Close has a cameo in the movie Hook. She is the pirate that gets put in the "Boo Box".
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 15 13:29
scoobots, I didn't add Doug Jones before because (except for a couple of movies) he always wear a heavy make-up in every movie and nobody knows his "real" face :) Incidentally, always great make-ups and performances!
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 15 14:55
Aw alright, I guess I can't blame you there...my hunt continues to find one then =P

Is this just movies or are we including TV shows too? Mick Fleetwood's role in Star Trek: The Next Generation

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Mick_Fleetwood
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 16 19:00
Thanks a lot, everybody! But please: no TV shows (too many candidates) just movies, and only professional, well-known, actors, if possible. By the way, Meryl Streep make-up work is really great! Thanks again.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 16 23:17
Mark Hamill played Max Reed in The Guyver 1991, i dont have a link to an image but after he transforms he's narly, if u cant get an image i still suggest its not bad for a B movie ish movie lol.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 17 0:22
They missed Robert Picardo http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2065603840/nm0000585 on the list when he played the part of Meg Mucklebones from the movie Legend. http://content9.flixster.com/photo/99/49/42/9949427_tml.jpg

Rosalinda Celentano as Satan in Passion of the Christ
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 17 21:28
Thanks for adding the Glenn Close one! I was pleasantly surprised!
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 17 22:15
really creative list, i love all of the input from many different users; makes it truly eclectic!

mason verger gives me the creeps every time.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 20 23:25
great list!!
got a couple additions...

john rhys-davies as gimli in lord of the rings

also, jack black as the fatties in the faux opening previews in tropic thunder

keep up the good work!

Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 21 6:40
!!!!!Dustin Hoffman - "Tootsie" !!!!!
Such a classic!

Great list! :)
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 21 15:16
There are some people who i don't think should be on the list. Besides that it kind of just a list of good movies. It's funny... in that movie hairspray, Travolta looks like a fusion of Al and Peggy Bundy.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 22 2:44
How about Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in "Some Like It Hot" and David Bowie in "The Prestige"?
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 22 3:41
Some people are really blind it seems.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 22 4:24
Bill Nighy in Pirates of the caribbean
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 22 9:34
Suggestion: David Bowie in The Hunger.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 23 18:36
How about Johnny Depp in blow (when he grows old)?
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 23 19:16
A suggestion: Geoffrey Rush as Peter Sellers.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 0:19
I kind of hate him but Billy Bob Thornton as Karl Childers in Sling Blade and also Christian Bale as Fallon in The Prestige
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 0:21
Honestly I was shocked not to see one transformation on here. But I will let it go. I joined just to give you this one.
Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 13:22
Tom Hanks when he gets stranded in Cast Away... and I can't believe I'm suggesting this too but, Frank Langella as Skeletor in Masters of the Universe.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 17:22
How about Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 17:22
How about Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 24 18:21
Linda Blair as Regan in The Exorcist?

Or Andy Serkis as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings? (or maybe that doesn't count because his character was animated)

Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 25 14:51
OMG! Lots of good suggestions. I don't know where to start, lol...

Bill Nighy ---> too much CGI.
Jim Carrey ---> too much CGI and already on the list ("Grinch").
Dustin Hoffman ---> classic, but I preferred the "Little Big Man" make-up work.
Tim Curry ---> classic, but already on the list ("Legend", more elaborate makeup)
Edward Norton ---> just a mask
Tony Curtis & Jack Lemmon ---> classic but...
Andy Serkis ---> you answered yourself :)
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 25 15:05
Also:

Billy Bob Thornton ---> great, but "risky" (it could open the door to more similar suggestions) :)
Christian Bale ---> already on the list ("The Machinist", more shocking!)

BTW, thanks everybody!

Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 25 17:33
Its a shame that most of them don't get the idea of the list.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 25 22:17
I apologize, I didn't notice that Tim Curry was already on there. Hadn't recognized the picture of him without the makeup. Heh.
Posted : 1 year ago at Jan 25 22:30

Awesome list, thank you for the effort that it took to create it.
One thing that stands out, at least to me, is the award for best makeup. The ones that didn't win one are often better than the ones that did. Makes me wonder what could have bested them at the time. I had seen Hannibal several times and am surprised to learn (only now) that Gary Oldman played Mason. I mean talk about a complete transformation and becoming unrecognizable.

Goldie Hawn
Death becomes her
Posted : 11 months, 1 week ago at Mar 3 2:21
Great list!

I'd suggest Doug Bradley as Pinhead in the Hellraiser- saga. http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2005/gallery/transformation/051121/ajolie.jpg
Posted : 11 months ago at Mar 15 2:04
My favorites are those that portray humans, since you'd expect them to be more recognizable. It's sure that someone portraying the Beast (in Beauty and the Beast) will look different.
Posted : 10 months, 2 weeks ago at Mar 25 15:14
Thanks for the list.

What about Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There?
Posted : 10 months, 1 week ago at Apr 6 1:57
Fantastic List...

If you're still taking more suggestions:

Guy Pearce in Factory Girl as Andy Warhol
James Caan in Dick Tracy as Spaldoni
Kevin Pollack in The Whole Ten Yards as Laslo (the father of the character he played in the first film)

Christina Ricci in Penelope ^^

Wesley Snipes as Noxeema Jackson
Patrick Swayze as Vida Boheme
John Leguizamo as Chi-Chi Rodriguez

all from To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar

Great list and the scariest character on here has to be John Travolta as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray! I would have also added Peter Coyote as Ike Epstein in Resurrecting the Champ.
Posted : 6 months, 3 weeks ago at Jul 18 19:54
Helena Bonham-Carter in Planet of the Apes; but then again, all the apes from Planet of the Apes...
And well there's always tons of others in Sci-Fi films. Like in Star Wars (The Emperor)
Klaus Kinski in Herzog's "Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht" Oh wait, *famous* actors.
Why only one character per actor?

Very nice list, but I think Charlize Theron in Monster must be here too! =]

I agree with Cristiane, Charlize Theron deserves to be in this list! :)
And maybe... Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, in X-Men?
