Jon Voight as Howard Cosell in Ali.
- Eddie Murphy as the White Jewish Guy from the Barber Shop in Coming to America was quite remarkable.
- Vincent D'Onofrio as Edgar Bug in MIB aswell as Tony Shaloub as Jeebs.
- Michael Rooker as Grant in Slither.
- Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in Star Wars (VI to be most precise).
Heath Ledger as Joker!
Anyway:
Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Benecio del Toro as the Wolf Man
Ron Perlman as Hellboy
Doug Jones as Abe Sapien
I suppose you could check in the other abnormal mutants from Marvel aswell: Mystique, Nightcrawler etc.
Seeing as guys who shave their heads can make the list:
Rodrigo Santaro as King Xerxes in 300
I really thought Vincent Price in the 1954 House of Wax deserved to be there too though...
Gotta request Dustin Hoffman as 'Hook' from the movie of the same name. Didn't even know if was him for a Long time after I saw it as a kid.
peace
Dr Strangelove ... in early days
you might as well add actors who are the voices of cartoons..
I'd recommend Doug Jones... he did two roles with crazy costumes, so take your pick
As the Fauno in El Laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) or,
As Abe Sabien in Hellboy/Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
or, a third option (one I don't personally like compared to the other two...) is as Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Robert Downey Junior in "Fur"
dave grohl from the foo fighters as the devil in the tenacious d movie
or ben stiller in this same movie also unrecognizable

2) Added, porpoise hork :)
got a couple additions...
john rhys-davies as gimli in lord of the rings
also, jack black as the fatties in the faux opening previews in tropic thunder
keep up the good work!
Such a classic!
Great list! :)
Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Or Andy Serkis as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings? (or maybe that doesn't count because his character was animated)
BTW, thanks everybody!

One thing that stands out, at least to me, is the award for best makeup. The ones that didn't win one are often better than the ones that did. Makes me wonder what could have bested them at the time. I had seen Hannibal several times and am surprised to learn (only now) that Gary Oldman played Mason. I mean talk about a complete transformation and becoming unrecognizable.
Death becomes her
I'd suggest Doug Bradley as Pinhead in the Hellraiser- saga. http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2005/gallery/transformation/051121/ajolie.jpg
What about Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There?
If you're still taking more suggestions:
Guy Pearce in Factory Girl as Andy Warhol
James Caan in Dick Tracy as Spaldoni
Kevin Pollack in The Whole Ten Yards as Laslo (the father of the character he played in the first film)

Patrick Swayze as Vida Boheme
John Leguizamo as Chi-Chi Rodriguez
all from To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar
And well there's always tons of others in Sci-Fi films. Like in Star Wars (The Emperor)
Klaus Kinski in Herzog's "Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht" Oh wait, *famous* actors.
Why only one character per actor?

YOU ROCK!!!!
Clifton Collins Jr. - http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2009-04/46262909.jpg
but more importantly
David Carradine - http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2009-04/46262891.jpg
I had no idea until the credits and had to go back and look at him again.
You could add Prof. Trelawny from Harry Potter to Emma Thompson and Doug Jones for the Pan and the Childeating pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth :)

Cate Blanchett played a man in some film that I'm forgetting the name of at the moment... You should add that, it was an amazingly believable transformation.
How about skeleton Barbossa and Captain Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean? :) Or Gollum? Would they fit?

The only one I wouldn't agree with is Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands, but that's just an opinion..
One that should definitely be in here is Gary Oldman as Drexl in True Romance.

That's if you're still taking suggestions :)
Also, Tim Curry as IT would fit nicely on this list :)
